Hi I read an old article from starrymag of Kate working on the L word that talks about her first scene on the show. Am I misinterpreting or did Kate actually think she was auditioning for the actual show in that scene?

What Kate said in a later interview in a podcast with Stamie and Tracy was that her first scene filmed when she got on set was Niki’s audition. Then she didn’t work with Mia again until the scene where Niki begs Jenny to give her a chance to play the lead in Lez Girls. She said she felt calmer when she met Mia after the scene had wrapped and Mia complimented her, which was re-assuring. She was so nervous because watching Niki in Kate’s first scene she shot (Niki’s audition) had been Jenny, Tina, etc.; i.e.. several of the co-stars she’d be working with closely (Mia, Laurel, etc.) during her time on the show. Auditions can be awkward for actors just in general, so playing a nervous actress as your first scene could make one feel a bit unsure.
