So.... everyone's seen the first 5 minutes, right?
Colin all lovey-dovey obliviously happy and Penelope is pretty much having a panic attack out there thinking, probably, "holy hell, this is really going down, I did not think any of this through AT ALL."

Not Pen crying over Whistledown issue announcing her own engagement.
"It is surely a wonderful time for the happy couple," is what people probably think all of this is. — Penelope, probably

pathetic isn’t really a word I‘d use for colin bridgerton. simon rather dying than marrying daphne was pathetic. anthony going through with marrying edwina until SHE mustered the courage to call everything off was pathetic.
colin contemplating his feelings, calling out his male acquaintances for their chauvinism, seeking advice from his mother and then immediately taking action and putting himself out there without even knowing if his feelings are reciprocated is the complete opposite of pathetic. that requires a whole lot of bravery.

I’ve just scrolled past who am I kidding, stared for 5 minutes straight at a series of gifs of Colin and Pen making out in the carriage and the next post was that meme with Colin and the sex workers and it hit me - and hear me out, - what if they showed us Colin’s, ahem, adventures (which I’m probably the only person in the fandom not hating) to highlight the contrast between his lack of excitement there and being completely lost in it with Pen?

And they criticize his acting? Please.

Is it just me or have we finally talked this thing to death? I feel like the break's been actually a gift because the fans had so much time to go over every little detail, but at this point I feel like there's nothing new anyone's bringing to the discussion anymore.

At this point I am literally not rewatching the carriage scene because I'm just too embarrassed to rack up my numbers any more.

Mr. Steal Your Girl really walked up to Debling with a straight face and said ‘Do you mind if I interrupt? It should only take a moment,’ with the full intention of it taking the rest of their lives.

Can we all just agree when Eloise demands Penelope tell Colin she’s Whistledown right then and there to give Pen some grace? Considering the woman has been in a romantic relationship with the man for the grand total of HALF A CARRIAGE RIDE.

Eloise in season 1: You know who is flying? Lady Whistledown. Imagine the life she must lead! WE MUST MEET HER.
Penelope: 🤓

I’m rewatching season 1 and I honestly have no words. I haven’t watched the not Daphne/Duke parts since Lady Whistledown reveal so I’ve never noticed before how everyone treated Penelope like this little girl who knows nothing, understands nothing, is awkward, and whose opinion could never be right over theirs.
And she is not angry at anyone for that. She takes it all in stride and only genuinely wants to help people. She puts off exposing Marina for so. damn. long. She tries to fix this and while on my first watch I, as many of us, was convinced she did it out of jealousy, but now I can see she saw it as a wrong thing to do and she couldn’t let this happen on a human level.
If you haven’t rewatched in a while, the night before Marina and Colin plan to elope, Penelope talks to Marina, can’t talk her out of it, Marina asks if Penelope loves Colin, says it’s an unrequited love and Colin treats her no different than Eloise or Hyacinth, etc.
And we are led to believe Penelope is heartbroken over that, she runs to Eloise and cries and we assume it’s because of that, but knowing who she is and seeing that everything she’s been doing so far was not desperation but a KINDNESS - she was pulling her punches when we thought all she could do is run around helplessly grasping at straws, - we understand that Penelope cries because she just wrote the Lady Whistledown paper and she is destroyed that she had to go against her morals and reveal Marina’s secret, not because she’s so heartbroken over Colin.
When Whistledown talks about could the ends justify such wretched means, it’s not just about Marina, or Daphne, it’s also about herself.
No one took her word for it so she had to put her Whistledown cap on to pry their eyes open.
We were all but fools.

If I hear one more comment on the correlation between Nicola’s weight and her attractiveness, I’m going to SNAP. Not only is she STUNNING when not styled to tone it down and barely outside a regular size, but I just don’t understand how twisted our society’s view is on how women are supposed to look like, what’s considered attractive, and the VALUE it puts on freaking LOOKS and weight (and yes, I think minding one’s weight and healthy diet is important to maintain one’s health and hence the quality of life but I don’t see people concerned about blood sugar levels and vascular patency here). Are we out of the 1800s yet or what???
It’s 2024, have we not yet figured out that a pretty face and a skinny body is not all there is to a person? What about their kindness? Their humility? Honesty? Honor? Their ability to empathize, be a friend, care for their family and loved ones, for the world as a whole? Their generosity, their integrity, their values? Their knowledge and their bright mind and what amazing gifts it can share with the world?
I honestly don’t understand how we are still fighting this battle, I’ve been reading this in literary classics since I was a child, I thought we were past this.
P.S. And if we MUST talk about our bodies, why not promote healthy amount of movement, good fat-muscle weight ratio, clean air, eating more vegetables, drinking more water, less screen time for better eyesight, less toxicity and more coping skills? Oh, and more education on everything really, but particularly on how to arrange our lives so that we are healthier and happier both on the outside and inside? No, because who cares, right? Let’s just blindly hate on an arbitrary aspect of someone’s appearance just because we want to win at something instead of, I don’t know, try and make this world a better place, focus on bettering our lives, just loving ourselves, or simply living in the moment - a moment of our life that we will never get back.
