Got craftsy with a Korean artist @hongsill_1004 at her studio/showroom in Itaewon When was the last time you made smth with your hands? 🤲❓ Made a key charm and a wall hanging using Hanji Korean traditional ricepaper 🤗💚 ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Hanji is a eco-friendly versatile material that I’m falling in love with more and more! Did you know that it’s washable? 💦 How awesome is that? Also, it may seem fragile, but it actually highly durable! 👐
She also knits warm hats and mufflers that are available for sale! ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀

This gorgeous dragon lantern can be found at Cheongyecheon stream as part of 2019 Seoul Lantern Festival exhibit.
Dragons are legendary creatures in Korean mythology and folklore. Usually seen as deities of the river or the sea, overseeing peace in the house, good health and longevity in the family, the harvest, catch and safe sailing. The lantern depicts a dragon holding a wish-fulfilling orb in its mouth--called yeouiju (여의주).
How to get here: the stream is within a walking distance from just about any subway line, but I’d recommend City Hall :)

An Autumn Day by Lee Si-young
A dragonfly sat on the end of a persimmon branch and dozed off all day. Even with wind, it did not shake; even with a cold rain smacking the branch, it did not move over. When I quietly approached it, I was startled to see, right there, it had arrived in Nirvana.

To me, autumn in Seoul is glorious, golden and smells of cinnamon and chestnuts.
One of my favorite places in Hongdae - Gyeongui Line Book Street and Gyeongui Line Forest Park. I love the idea of repurposing industrial areas and non-public spaces as parks and galleries and this park absolutely follows that idea! It’s a great place to visit for all book lovers but not only! Come check out all the small cafes and restaurants around the area! And enjoy a stroll!

KIMJANG, the making and sharing of kimchi, have has been recognized by UNESCO as an intangible cultural heritage items along with, of course, kimchi itself. “Kimjang allows Koreans to practise the spirit of sharing among neighbours, while promoting solidarity and providing them a sense of identity and belonging; Inscription of Kimjang could contribute to the visibility of intangible cultural heritage by enhancing dialogue among different communities nationally and internationally that practise foodways that similarly make creative use of natural resources,” said the UNESCO committee in regard to its decision to add kimchi and kimjang to the list.
Personally, it’s always a lot of fun to have an opportunity to take part in the making of kimchi! It’s an activity that’s fun and tiring, but ultimately extremely satisfying.
Come autumn, kimchi festivals and kimchi cooking classes offer a lot of opportunities to let foreigners experience the spirit of sharing and making something together - definitely worth trying!

Daehak-ro Festival: DARKNESS POOMBA
Tumblr media
Traditional Poomba is an adaptation of Gakseori Taryeong (song of singing beggars) that expresses the sorrows, frustrations and anger of peasants and beggars who feel oppressed and struggle to survive.
Darkness Poomba is a modern interpretation of the piece, expressing the social anxiety felt by people today, reshaping the past to explore the future. The production is masterfully brought to life by Modern Table, a Korean contemporary dance company. Their performance style is powerful, passionate, sophisticated, and aggressive. They use the space in the unconventional way, removing the boundaries between the stage and the audience.
Darkness Poomba will take you on an unexpected journey and possibly change the way you see contemporary dance, traditional song and rock music forever.

Two little munchkins at the Seoul Fashion Week. Another side of the official fashion week is this - the most stylish children you’ll ever see all around DDP posing for the most prominent street style photographers! It’s an event on it’s own and the determination and hard work both the parents and their precious little models put into it are truly incredible!
Autumn in Seoul is all about fashion!
