Hi! I just wanted to say how refreshing it is to see a blog that focuses solely on the positive side of the fandom. It’s such a nice way to counter all the negativity that comes with people arguing over ships or headcanons, which, in my opinion, shouldn’t even be an issue. We should all be able to respect and accept each other’s opinions, as long as they’re not harmful or outright illegal. So thank you for running a space like this! I really appreciate it!
Now that that’s out of the way, I just wanted to say: I think prumano is such a cute ship, and I honestly wish it were a bit more popular! I love the dynamic between Prussia and Romano, how they are both older brothers who are constantly overshadowed by their younger siblings and often underestimated. Plus, the fact that Romano canonically likes knights and Prussia is, well, was a knight it's just so perfect!
I also love the whole loud, egotistical character paired with someone more reserved but sharp-tongued. It's such a chaotic but fun trope!
There are a few really amazing fics with them on ao3, and honestly, it’s thanks to those stories and some really cool fanart that I started liking the ship in the first place. There may not be a ton of content, but what’s out there is seriously well done. The artists and writers are super talented!
Of course, I’m not trying to force anyone to ship anything they don’t want to, but if you're curious, I totally recommend checking out the prumano tag and seeing all the awesome art and fics out there :D

eh, screw it *releases my fucked up vampire au from the confines of my mind*
anyway I decided my blog is for me and I can draw and post all the weird silly concepts of my dreams and nobody can stop me. I actually have a lot of potential comic ideas ping-ponging in my head for this AU — not a linear story or anything (beyond what's on this post), just some good fun and shenanigans.

Hi again! Same anon from before who talked about Prussia x Nyo!Romano! I wanted to respond to the anon who shared their thoughts on the pairing and the fic I mentioned, “The King’s Promise.” I really appreciate you taking the time to express your view. I don’t want to come off as mean or combative in any way, just hoping to explain my perspective more clearly!
First off, I completely agree that historical AUs should try to include meaningful aspects of the time period they’re set in. Things like gender roles, religion, technology, and social structure are definitely what help ground a setting and give it texture. That said, I think it’s a bit unfair to say The King’s Promise completely ignores those elements or is entirely “superficial.”
Yes, it’s a fictional romcom with historical influences, not a strict historical account, but fanfiction is fiction. It’s not pretending to be a history textbook or a documentary. I don’t think anyone is reading it and coming away thinking this is a 100% accurate portrayal of medieval Europe. It’s more about creating a believable world where the story makes emotional and thematic sense, even if the details are stylized or simplified. That’s true of almost any historical fiction, not just fanfiction.
You mentioned that the fic doesn’t touch on things like gender roles or the feudal system, but those are addressed, especially gender roles. One of the central plot points is that Lovina (Nyo!Romano) can’t inherit the throne because she’s a woman. That’s literally one of the main reasons the author chose to use her instead of Lovino. Here’s a quote from one of the author’s comments that directly explains their thinking: “Writing it this way helped with the plot, as, unfortunately, women back then couldn’t do much or hold real influence. The whole separation plot, and even the fall of the Italian Kingdom, wouldn’t have happened if it had been Lovino and Feliciano instead of Lovina and Feliciana.”
So gender roles are actually central to the plot, not ignored. The story also references things like arranged marriage, political alliances, and regional unrest, like the North Italian region joining a larger empire and the tensions that come with it. These are all period-relevant dynamics, even if they’re filtered through a fictional lens.
That said, I agree with you that there’s always room for improvement in terms of historical realism. Maybe older names for kingdoms could’ve been used. Maybe the feudal system or religious life could’ve been explored more deeply. But saying it’s entirely lazy or thoughtless seems a bit harsh, especially if you haven’t read much of the fic yourself. Even if it's not perfect, the author clearly tried to bring in elements of the time, and that effort deserves some credit.
And on the broader point… you mentioned that calling certain AU setups “restrictive” shows a lack of creativity. That was not my intention! It’s not about being unable to write an m/m ship in a historical context, but more about how certain settings (like royal courts) were historically not accepting of queer relationships. Of course, you can and should still write those stories! But sometimes writers find it easier, or more effective, to tell certain types of narratives using heterosexual dynamics, especially if those dynamics are core to the plot (like the need for a royal heir or a marriage alliance). It’s not about “straightifying” a pairing out of discomfort with queerness… it’s about telling a certain kind of story in a certain kind of world.
I think this is where fandom creativity really shines! We all remix and reinterpret characters and settings in different ways, based on what we want to explore. Some people want gritty realism. Others want stylized fantasy. And both are totally valid! You’re right that historical accuracy shouldn’t be thrown out entirely, especially if that’s the whole draw of the AU. But I also think there’s space for stories that balance realism with emotional or thematic goals, and The King’s Promise is an example of that kind of balance! (in my opinion)
Anyway, thank you again for the discussion, and I truly hope this reply didn’t come off as rude or defensive… I’m just passionate about the topic and about fandom being a space where we can all enjoy different things respectfully. Also, thank you to Mod Pelutze and Mod Gilbird for their responses!

I saw another hot take about this earlier, I think I’m writing this right after it? Not too sure, but it was about shipping some of the original Hetalia characters with the Nyo! versions of others. Honestly? I agree with that take!
It’s always felt like a missed opportunity that Hetalia has so few female characters. What makes it even more interesting is how the Nyo! versions often have slightly different personalities than their male counterparts, sometimes in ways that actually fit better with certain characters from the original cast. That alone makes the whole idea of mixing OG and Nyo!versions really appealing to me.
Like the person before me said: Prumano. AUGH, I love Prumano in literally any form. OG x OG? Iconic. Nyo x Nyo? Yes please. OG x Nyo? Underrated and amazing! I genuinely love all versions of it.
Don’t get me wrong… Prussia and Romano (both OG) have an incredible dynamic. There’s so much depth and potential there for art and writing. But Prussia x Nyo! Romano also has a great dynamic! It's just different, but in a way that's equally compelling. It kind of sucks that people immediately assume you're being homophobic if you enjoy the OG x Nyo! version. Like, no, I just enjoy a different take on the pairing!
I 100% agree that erasing LGBTQ+ representation is a serious issue, especially in media. But this is fanfiction and fanart, we’re playing with fictional characters in fictional scenarios. As someone else put it, it’s like "playing with dolls." It’s all just for fun. Nobody’s trying to erase anything from real life, we’re just exploring characters in different ways. And as long as it’s not hurting anyone, I think that should be okay.
Going back to Prumano… one reason I especially enjoy Prussia x Nyo! Romano is because it opens the door to some really unique AU settings. With OG Prumano being a male x male ship, certain historical settings (like Victorian or Medieval AUs) can feel a bit restrictive unless you’re intentionally writing something anachronistic or rebellious, which can be great! But sometimes, you just want to write something that's era-appropriate, and that’s where gender-bending can add an extra layer of storytelling potential.
There’s actually a fantastic Medieval Prumano fic on AO3 that does this, it’s called “The King’s Promise”, and it features a King!Prussia x former Princess Nyo! Romano. It’s so well-written, with a plot that really fits the time period, and the author explains why they chose to genderbend Romano in a really thoughtful way. It just… works. I wish it didn’t get overlooked just because it’s a het pairing.
Of course, not everyone’s going to like that kind of thing, and that’s totally valid! But that doesn’t mean people should get hate for enjoying it either. Fandom is supposed to be a space where you can have fun, experiment, and express yourself. That’s what makes it fun!
Anyway, maybe I got a little off-topic here, but yeah… I agree with the person who posted before me. Not sure if this is a hot take or an evil one, you can be the judge!
No, sadly this was not right after that lmfao. It was way before you. It's not really an evil take. I think someone just has a ship fixation lmfao

Just a hot take, not necessarily evil but you's be surprised. I like the idea of using nyos in ships as the second partner. So yes sometimes i appreciate the straights. It's apparently a hot take seeing as you could get called homophobic but really it's about the dynamic. Also hetalia isn't real and it's like playing with dolls. Sure certain ships are amazing in my opinion as they are such as: Gerita, dennor, sufin, ... but there is so much potential of using girls in the mix (I am well aware there's already girls but i need mire variety, dif personalities). My fave would be denmark x nyo n italy or prussia x nyo romano or or france x nyo england. The nyo's are the 'stronger' counterparts and some of these hetalia men are written so well with strong and daring women. Ughhh I JUST NEED MORE WOMEN and nooooo sometimes its fun to read about a man and a woman. Imagina a jock denmark x cheerleader feli fic in an apocalypse or knight prussia and cunning thief lovina or or or...
