Raucous - Sharing of R&D work on ‘The Lantern Room’ Immersive theatre.
I have been working with Raucous for the last 2 years looking at creating a large scale Immersive theatre experience. This project is called ‘The Lantern Room’ and tells the story of Doria Sharpe - a legendary female whaler. We have been dreaming and imagining how we would create a world to tell this story with Binaural sound, AI, interactive elements and all the sights and smells of a lighthouse in the middle of the sea.
We presented some of our ideas and research in Bristol, where Raucous are based, and my work included creating an interesting environment for our audience to experience the findings. We showed research imagery and incredible model box design of our Set designer Hannah Wolfe, some smells and bone conductor sound effects, and a short excerpt from the script performed in situ.
It has been a really exciting and rewarding experience to be involved in the early development of a show and I look forward to creating the full version.

Anthem by Llinos Mai, Music by Llinos Mai and Dan Lawrence.
Produced at Wales Millennium Centre. March & July 2022.
Set Design: Jacob Hughes.  Costume Design: Delyth Evans. Video Design: Zsolt Balogh.
This was a brilliantly funny, original Welsh-language musical based on a TV singing show live broadcast.  It brought together some of the best theatre makers and performers in Wales and I have to say it was an absolute joy to work on.  Even though the first version was cut short by covid in the company, we managed to get it back on its feet in July for a full run in Cardiff.

The Litten Trees Project, commissioned by Fuel Theatre.  March 2021.
This was a fantastic project that asked 8 Lighting Designers around the UK to light a tree in their local area.  The aim was to give passers by an unexpected happening of art and light, to mark the end of this dark winter.
I chose a stunning Giant Sequoia tree in the churchyard of Holy Trinity church in my village, Ystrad Mynach in the Rhymney valley, South Wales.
My aim was to make people stop and admire the amazing structure of this huge tree, its unusual shape and growth. To reveal the structure to the people passing by on the road who would only ever see it as an evergreen mass amongst others. And also to have some fun with sculpting the textures and using some colour.
We had over 120 people pass by or come to view this beautiful tree, and the constantly shifting lights, over 3 nights.  There were many thousands more passing in cars and engaging with photos on social media.   It seemed to inspire so many people and bring some wonder and joy.   And I had a fantastic time working on it, it was so great to have a creative output and also to be out in nature!
