Mindhunter is so good because it is not hesitant to demolish the romanticism of serial killers. They take real murderers - the Son of Sam and Charles Manson - and force them to admit their fraudulence. Wayne Williamson was shown to be a man desperate to shape his image in the media, even going to watch reporters in front of the courthouse. Someone was even referred to as “nothing more than a dumpy loser.” As an audience, we don’t get to see any violence or gore beyond brief crime scene photos and drawings. BTK (a man infamous for torturing women) doesn’t get a second of violent screen team. Instead, we just see him looking like a lonely freak in women’s lingerie. At the same time, it condemns condoners by Holden Ford, using him as a stand-in for serial killer fanatics. His colleagues regard his over-eagerness to speak to violent murderers as disturbing. It is not brushed off, but a central theme of the show that is a constant threat to his job.
On top of that, they have a well-rounded lesbian character whose personality doesn’t fall back on overused tropes. We get to see an anxiety disorder and the struggles of stay at home women of the 70s with absent husbands. Racial discrimination in the criminal justice system was not only addressed but an entire theme in season two. The acting is top-notch and I wish Cameron Britton won the Emmy. His Ed Kemper was Anthony Hopkins level and genuinely scared me. It’s really good.

With the release of the movie, I have seen an influx of hatred towards Pink/Rose.
And that irritates me.
Yes, what she did to Spinel is terrible. What she did to Spinel gave Spinel her own type of trauma.
But y'all seem to be forgetting about/ not caring about Pink's trauma.
Pink was abused. Pink was under high expectations, yet for the longest time was never given any chance to prove herself. When she misbehaved, she was locked in a dark tower and starved of light.
Just remembering what Steven said about Pink to Blue.
"How many times did you lock her in here? How many times did you make her cry?"
It doesn't excuse what happened between Pink and Spinel. But people have to remember her upbringing. Unlike Steven, she didn't have people encouraging her and holding her hand through things. And there were serious consequences for doing what she felt was right. That was the only thing she knew. Sure, her actions were childish and bratty. But I've seen so many people calling her evil. She's far from evil. She isn't good, either. She's created heroes and villains. I think so many people saw her as this perfect, wonderful being.
'I always thought I might be bad, now I'm sure that it's true. Cause I think you're so good, and I'm nothing like you. ' -Love Like You.
I am positive this line is Rose singing to Greg. Always have been. She knows she isn't perfect. She's made mistakes, and done things she didn't like. To write her off as a villain is ignorant. The greatest lesson from Steven Universe is that the world isn't as simple as black and white. Of course she would seem like the worst SU 'villain'. She's the only person we won't get a redemption for. She will never have the chance to make up for her mistakes, or fix her wrong doings. She will never have the chance to overcome her trauma, unlike Spinel. Whether or not due to her own actions, my point stands. There will always be gems like Spinel and White that get redemptions. Pink/Rose never will.
It should also be known that Pink was the ONLY diamond the treat other gems with respect. Pink worked towards freedom on Homeworld before she even knew it.
She lacked the ability to change like Steven did. Pink wasn't able to change because change was regarded as bad. Change made you imperfect. And to Pink, who was already imperfect, that wouldn't have help her in anyway.
But yeah, she's so evil.
Remember everyone,
If every pork chop were perfect, we wouldn't have hot dogs.

When you understand that kids and teenagers being salty about literary symbolic analysis comes from a very real place of annoyance and frustration at some teachers for being over-bearing and pretentious in their projecting of symbolism onto every facet of a story but you also understand that literary analysis and critical thinking in regards to symbolism is extremely important and deserves to be not only taught in schools, but actively used by writers when examining their own work to see if they might have used symbolism unintentionally and to make sure that they are using symbolism effectively:

seriously though bisexuality being defined as attraction to men and women is a heterosexual’s definition of bisexuality actual bisexual groups and organizations have been defining it as attraction to two or more genders or same and other genders since the nineties and plenty of nb people actually id as bi and refusing to accept how we define ourselves is so absurdly biphobic and heterosexist and jfc it’s 2014 can other queer people fucking realize and acknowledge this

“In 2012, Louis C.K. appeared on “The Daily Show” and said that “comedians and feminists are natural enemies” because “feminists can’t take a joke.” Jon Stewart nodded vigorously and agreed. Today, Stewart is being fawned over for acknowledging, in response to Louis C.K.’s fall, that “comedy on its best day is not a great environment for women.” A friend, the comedian Zahra Noorbakhsh, texted me: Ten years from now a man will win awards for his documentary about all this. If you believe us now only because your peers are facing professional ruin, that deserves its own reckoning. I’ll wait.”

“But the niggers” a mood board.
notice how people like Gina rodriguez conveniently gloss over people like Tessa Thompson and Zoe Saldana…it’s because when she says latino, she means (be it conciously or subconciously) blacks don’t qualify.
same for that that last Kloub clown….who says “muslim american” but you know he is talking about specifically non-black muslims

one thing i realized a while ago is that some crushes are better left as crushes. sometimes, you only like someone because you don’t know enough about them to dislike them.
