Being a zoo educator is absolutely amazing. I love educating people on what zoos and aquariums are doing for animals. We are not holding these animals captive for your entertainment, we’re trying to save these species. Most of them are endangered and could go extinct but having them in managed-care facilities, people get to still see them and learn about them and what their part is in the world and seeing them up close makes people care about them just a little more. Eventually in the future, we could end up putting animals back in the wild and watch their population grow again. But first we need to try and stop the problems they’re having in the wild, such as: habitat loss, trophy hunting and poaching, etc.
My conservation message is this: You don’t have to go to Africa or the rain forest and donate a bunch of money. If you just go to AZA (Association of Zoos and Aquariums) accredited facilities or national parks, even if you’re only giving them a small parking fee, it’s going to the animals that live there so they can help their counterparts out in the wild. 🦒
