Fieldwork Assignment (pt. 2)
After conducting my second interview, I have became more familiar with Christian beliefs and rituals practiced within others. The religion my next interviewee practices is Christianity. Therefore, she heavily believes in God, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit. She also has a set vision on how God created and preserved everything. This also includes Resurrection Day, Judgement Day, and more. To express her sacred beliefs she has participated in her local church’s choir, attended a weekly bible study, and takes part in church services/events. She was influenced to have these beliefs by her immediate family members. Growing up, she was raised into Christianity and strictly taught about God as her higher power. Therefore, over time it became natural to her and now she plans to raise her future children she same way.

Fieldwork Assignment (pt. 1)
After interviewing a classmate, I have became more knowledgeable about atheism. Atheism is the lack of belief in a “God” or a common higher power that in similar to “gods”. This is somewhat the denial or religious beliefs and rituals. The person I interviewed has determined that they do not believe in a higher power because they believe that religion has been skewed entirely too much by mankind. She presumes that over time, humans have managed to use religion as a means to control populations. Although she doesn’t necessarily believe in God, she still practices religious beliefs and Christianity because her family practices that specific religion. They encourage her to practice it as well; therefore, she does celebrate some holidays and attend church just to hear an opposing view once in a while.

Fieldwork Assignment
The relationships and interactions that I have daily are with my mother, best friend, professors, and coworkers. Within each relationship power is balanced differently. The use of hegemony is heavily influenced in the relationship between my mother and I because between the two of us, she hold dominance. We also have an understood agreement that she has authority over me. This is similar to the relationship with my professors because technically they have authority over me as a student; however, looking at the situation as just person to person they do not have dominance over me. The relationship I hold with my best friend and coworkers are different from the previous two interactions I mentioned because there is no dominance over one. We all are held at the same standard. Considering this, I don’t believe there is any intersection between the interactions I encounter daily other than a direct connection to me or age.
Political negotiations only present themselves when there is conflict between powers or when there is a demand of power between a relationship. Power dynamics were established between my mother and I as I was growing up and being raised by her. It is a given to show respect for her because of our relation and connection to each other. Yet she also raised to respect those who are high in age; therefore, that is how the power dynamic is established between my coworkers and I.

Fieldwork Assignment
Hello, my name is Toboosh Han. I am 38 years old and originally from Pakistan. My native language is Hindu and Urdu. I am married, yet I do not have children. I was pulled to move to the United States to gain new opporutnities and to get a feel of life in the “new country” because I heard many admirable stories of my friends’ new lifestyles. However, I am now being pulled to move back to my country because I miss my old lifestyle. I miss the wealth I have in my country considering the fact that I was a doctor, but I most importantly miss being with the love of my life.
Gender roles are generally the same in both countries, I provided for my wife and acted as the head of household, as I would if she lived here in America with me. My wife doesn’t work at home, but I have came to a realization that there is plenty of females that work here in the United States. Regarding children, we make family decisions together, hence why we have not had any children yet. Therefore, I am not exactly sure what my future children would expect of life in either country. Nevertheless, if we spoke about what I expected of compared to my parents is completely the opposite. My parents love their life in Pakistan and wouldn’t dare leave especially because we have a large amount of riches there. Yet I am such a curious person and I had to explore the new world to see what it had in store for me.
As much as I love all the people I have met including my interviewer, I am now being pulled to move back to my hometown. My bond with my family is so strong and I hate being away from them. Also the benefit of my family as a collective is more valued than just the benefit of myself. Although my younger brother, Kharam, moved here with me as well, this is still not enough for me. My brother is planning to stay here, but I am leaving him to find a life of his own; because I have mine already and it is back home with my family and friends.

Fieldwork Assignment:
Cocoa production is the primary source for all our chocolate needs. The Ivory Coast and Ghana are the largest producers of cocoa; therefore, the conditions in those countries are somewhat problematic. They face poverty, health care problems, child laboring problems, and more. Yet they still manage to produce cocoa needed for our chocolate bars. Cocoa beans are grown on trees in humid temperatures (considering why Africa is the best place to grow cocoa beans). The cocoa beans are transformed to liquid and chocolate flavor develops, but this takes about a week to happen. Almost 4 million tons of cocoa are produced per year. Chocolate is then put on the global market and gets sent to different companies to create their signature bar. These companies include Hershey’s, Nestlé, Mars, and more. Chocolate is a very profitable product, yet the average profit varies. The greatest cost for chocolate production is the price of cocoa. Nevertheless reduced and child labor play a part as well.

Fieldwork Assignment:
The news article I chose represented Karl Marx’s theory on social class. Marx’s theory basically created a society of only two different social classes. Those are the bourgeoisie and the proletariat. The bourgeoisie is the business owners or simply the owners for the means of production. The proletariat on the other hand are the workers that create product.
The article I chose is called: “Bernie Sanders: Workers should control the means of production”. In this article, Bernie Sanders introduces his idea of bringing together the two social classes. He believes the workers should be somewhat promoted and also be included in the bourgeoisie social class by taking part in ownership of production. He thinks they deserve credit for the work they are putting in, instead of crediting only the owners. This can also include being rewarded with higher positions, attending important meetings, and emphasize the idea of higher pay.

Fieldwork Assignment: Gender Ideology
This represents gender ideology because when people lose their virginity (heterosexually), the male is the person that typically is expected to take control and enforce the sexual interaction.

This picture is a representation of miscegenation. Miscegenation is a mixing of races through many different types of ways. I used Kim Kardashian and Kanye West as my example because they are a mixing of races or are interracial through marriage.

Fieldwork Assignment 6 (Term 5)
Tumblr media
This picture is an example of the term white supremacy because white supremacy is the belief that white people are superior to any other race. This picture is saying that a person that is white needs to be the president of our country, simply because they believe that white people can do a better job of being the president than a person of any other race. This is emphasizing the fact that the=is person believes that white people are better or superior.

Fieldwork Assignment 6 (Term 4)
https://www.washingtonpost.com/education/2019/09/30/we-know-how-be-racist-we-know-how-pretend-be-not-racist-now-lets-know-how-be-antiracist/
This is an example of racism because racism is the belief that one race is superior to another. This is something that is a major problem in today’s society. This article from the Washington Post represents the term racism because it highlights the fact that this long lasting issue that needs to be resolved. It promotes equality of all races and explains that no race should feel inferior to another.

This is an example of the term: hypodescent. Hypodescent is a concept used for mixed individuals. It refers to something called the “one drop rule”. Obama is a representation of this because he has a “drop” of the African American ethnicity in him; therefore, he is considered black. However, he is of mixed ethnicities.

Fieldwork Assignment 6 (Term 1&2)
Tumblr media
This is an example of the term, phenotype and genotype, because phenotypes are characteristics or traits that you are able to see on a living organism. Genotypes on the other hand are more so the genetic making of the certain organism that is creating it’s particular phenotype. For example, the picture shows the different alleles that serve as the genotype, but the different type of wings that results in each particular genotype is the phenotype. The straight wings result from the SS alleles which is a particular genotype that creates the straight wing phenotype. Yet, the WW alleles is the second genotype that creates the wrinkled wing phenotype.
