I hate it when people are like, “I’d draw more, but I suck”.
Guys.
Guys.
You’re always gonna suck at the beginning. I sucked, your favourite artist sucked, your Cool Artist Friend used to draw faux Disney paws when they started out.
Art isn’t easy. It’s actually pretty lame sometimes.
But if you don’t draw… If you hold yourself back? You’re never going to improve. Being self-depreciating in your work won’t help you, because if you don’t appreciate your effort, do you really expect others to?
Be confident. Open commissions, take trades, even if you’re fucking terrible. Someone will want your art, someone will want to help you grow, and you’ll gain experience by drawing things in ways you’ve never drawn before.
Please don’t believe that you can’t get there, or that people won’t appreciate gifts or fanart because you’re not Picasso. It sounds gay as hell, but the heart of what you draw is what matters, the effort you put in, how hard you try to get better.
So don’t worry about it. Just relax, and draw. Draw people, draw furries, draw fuckloads of porn. It doesn’t matter.
Just create.
I believe in you.

Writing as a Lifestyle
Tumblr media
When you decide to take writing seriously, you’re making a lifestyle choice as much as you are making a career choice. As a writer, you may have to change up your living conditions. If you haven’t made any sells yet, that might mean stretching your $20 or leaving your work only to come home and work some more. It might mean staying up late to get a chapter in or waking up early to fit in an hour of editing before your day job. Frankly, you’ll probably have to cut back on time with friends and family and hobbies, because to be a great writer, you have to not only write, but read, and study, and it helps to network and have an online presence as well. I’ve been living a writing lifestyle for over a two years now. This post will cover some things I’ve learned that have helped me be most productive.
Finding (Making) Time
Tumblr media
The most important thing about being a writer is to write! This is your priority. This means you need to put in the time and effort. Talking or daydreaming about it, or staring at the keyboard isn’t enough. If you’re a parent or work at another job, like I mentioned above, this might mean fitting time in at night or in the early morning, or during nap time.
If you have a more flexible schedule, try finding out what time of the day you write best, and schedule your life around it. I’ve heard that most writers work best right before or after sleeping, because that’s usually when the creative side of the brain is active. It’s true for me. So I wake up extra early and get in some writing before I go to work. If I have trouble getting back into my story in the afternoon, I take a power nap, and magically, writing becomes easier.  I was a little skeptical of this idea before, but now I know how it really can play a role in my productivity.
Getting the Most out of Your Writing Session
Tumblr media
You’ve made the time, now, make the most out of your time. This doesn’t mean writing as fast as you can. What’s the point of writing at all if you’re going to write crap? I mean do everything to get in your writing zone and stay there.
This might mean finding your own quiet space where you can work without being bothered. For me, it’s more than that. It means watching what I do when I’m not writing, because that influences my productivity. Hunger, fatigue, brain fogs can all effect my fiction session. So I watch what I eat. Nothing can slow you down like poor health (physical, mental, or spiritual).
Your Work Space
It’s worth investing in items that will make your writing session more comfortable. When I first started this journey, I didn’t care much about my work space. Months into it, I found out what a difference a good chair, the right table height, and posture can make--it helped me write longer. I have an ergonomic keyboard and a trackball (that I can use with either hand) instead of a mouse so I can type more. I keep my laptop screen’s brightness at the lowest level to reduce the strain on my eyes. I also take eye vitamins now (and yes, they work.) I found I was more comfortable with a foot rest. Back in college, I started having severe pain in my hands. Luckily the doctors didn’t find anything serious, but now I take primrose and fish oils to help prevent the aches, so I can be more productive. If you want to write for many years to come, don’t skimp out on your health and work space. You can also make the most of your time by working out story problems while in the shower, eating lunch, or brushing your teeth, so that when your writing session starts, you’re ready. And of course, make the most out of your session by actually putting in the effort. Treat it like a job. Do whatever you need to stay focused.
Prioritize

After 10 years I did a redraw of Sailor Moon, top from my head. Just like 10 years ago I drew her on a convention with pens I had handy. Though I don’t use anime style as much as back then, it is nice to revisit it once in a while. What a journey :) More of my traditional work here: http://saniika.deviantart.com/gallery/49243797/Traditional Get yours as a commission     Etsy Redbubble Tumblr Facebook Pixiv Instagram Weasyl Original drawings for sale here. Pixel Art Tutorial
Note: This tutorial was created in 2007 for my personal website. Some small tweaks have been made since then, but nothing too significant. In this 10-step tutorial, I’ll teach you how to create a “sprite”, which is a stand-alone two-dimensional character or object. The term comes from video games, of course.
Creating pixel art is a skill I picked up because I needed graphics for my games. After a lot of practice, I became kinda handy with it, and started to see it more as actual art rather than just a tool. These days, pixel art is quite popular in game development and illustration.
This pixel tutorial was created many years ago to teach people the basic concepts behind pixel art, but I’ve streamlined it a lot since its first incarnation. There are other pixel tutorials around, but I find them to be overly-complicated and too wordy. Pixel art is not a science. You should never have to calculate a vector when doing pixel art.

at last! 25 construction drawings with muscles on the torso. It’s a real joy when you finally find the time to finish something you’ve started over a month ago!   Really sorry for not posting at all lately! As cliche as it will sound, I’ve been very busy around work recently and I don’t even have time to do any drawing for myself. Last month I joined the amazing team of The Golden Apple, as an assistant character designer. So far it’s been a great experience for me! Even though I don’t have time to do studies now (well except some quick gesture drawings before bed), I feel like I’m learning so much from the talented people in the team. Also, I’m often challenged by the tasks I’m given and I really don’t have a choice but to go out of my comfort zone and try harder. Those are the moments when I feel improvement and like I’m actually learning something.
Anyways, I’m starting a new class on Schoolism this week so I hope I will manage to fit that somewhere in my schedule and will also make sure to post my assignments here if anyone’s interested!  Have a lovely day/evening and thank you for getting to that last sentence (even if you scrolled through all the shit above).  <3

I’m a little bother by the info given on the Hispanic/Latino defintion.  A true true Hispanic is actually someone of Spain or Hispania.  The U.S. media caused this confusion because they couldn’t figure out what to call Spanish-speaking people of Spanish cultural heritage. Haitians are also considered Latino, believe it or not.  South America alone has 13 countries, only 10 are Latin, 7 Hispanic.

Apologies, I don’t know how to put something under a cut, but I made this mini auto bio comic about the difference between the terms Latino and Hispanic. I hope you like it.
Enjoy!
