Day 30, Feb 21

Today I walked to school listening to music on Spotify as usual. Once I got to school I had to use adobe illustrator to prepare files for the photography project that was due today. I also used canvas to submit this project before class started. During this photography class we did a group critique of everyones project. After that we started to look at the work of several different famous photographers such as Irving Penn, Hellen Van Meene, August Sander, and Alec Soth. After this class was finished I walked home while listening to Spotify.  

At home I ate a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and then started to work on homework again. I used adobe illustrator to work on a project for my Text and image class. I used canvas and web storm to work on an assignment for my web design class. I used canvas and Goldpass to work on homework for my career and internship class. I also used Microsoft Word to work on the $2 shopping spree essay for my design and its discontents class. 

After working on homework for a while I got freeze-dried salted edamame from the brand Good &Gather to eat. I was interested in the packaging of the freeze-dried edamame because it is a very vibrant green color with very clean simple use of image and text. The use of green and the simple design suggested to me that this food was probably a healthier, more natural, less processed snack option. It also includes non-gmo verified label and it only had 3 ingredients (edamame, salt, and safflower oil) so its design does reflect a concern for naturalness. In our modern culture people are much more likely to care about the healthiness and naturalness of the food they consume so it is effective to have a design that reflects that immediately to the viewer before they even have to read it.

Day 29, Feb 20

Today I walked to school while listening to music on Spotify. I ate a Sunbelt granola bar for breakfast. Once I got to school I had to use web storm to work on my assignments in my web design class. After that I used google docs and canvas to work on homework while I waited for my next class to start. During my next class we watched some class mates do a reading presentation on “Maximize the Message” by Katherine McCoy and “Graphic Design Criticism as a Spectator Sport” by Michael Bierut. I also used google docs, canvas, and Microsoft Word to work on my $2 shopping spree essay. 

Once I finished school I walked home listening to music on Spotify again. At home I ate some grapes. Something feels off about the grape packaging. I was going to say I like how the bag has a zip closure because its easier and more convenient to open and close but it also seems like it may be an unnecessary use of extra plastic since it has holes all over the bag anyway. As for the design of the grape bag itself I thought it was interesting because it’s a fruit but the design revolves around portraying the grapes as sweet almost comparing them to candy. It uses a fun curvy typeface, light pink and light blue details (like cotton candy colors), and it says “sweeties.” I think it is an interesting approach to market the fruit. 

After that I started working on my $2 shopping spree essay using canvas and Microsoft Word. I also had to take pictures for a photography project that's due tomorrow using a Nikon d5000 camera and adobe Lightroom. I ate top ramen and some brocolli for dinner.

Day 28, Feb 19

Today went as usual. I got ready for school. I walked to school listening to music on Spotify. At school I used Adobe illustrator and indesign while working on a project in class. After that class was finished I worked on homework while waiting for my next class to start. I used Adobe indesign and canvas to work on a project for my career and internship preparation class. I also ate a Clif energy bar while I waited. 

After I worked on that I went to the Career and Internship services in McNeal hall to get my resume reviewed. I never used that service before because I was never completely sure what or where it was and I was just kind of nervous I wouldn’t know what to say/ask about. After becoming more familiar with it through that career and internship class it was actually much easier, simpler, and more casual than I thought it would be. I then went to my career and internship class and used what I learned from the resume review.

After I was finished at school I walked back home while listening to music on Spotify again. At home I worked on homework using Microsoft Word and canvas. I ate rice and vegetables for dinner. I used Dawn and Clorox products to clean up the kitchen afterward. Finally, I watched Netflix while working on sketches for my web design class before getting ready for bed.

Day 27, Feb 18

Today I listened to music on Spotify while I walked to school as usual. I ate a Clif energy bar. I wore my Canada weather gear winter coat again. Once I got to school I used web storm and canvas. I also used w3schools so I could better understand the css we were using in class today. After that I waited for my next class to start. I used canvas and google docs to work on homework. I used twitter and instagram while I waited also. In my next class I used google docs and canvas to work on my $2 splurchase essay 

On my way back home I listened to Spotify and I ate a granola bar from the brand Sunbelt. At home I continued working on my essay for a while using google docs and Microsoft word. I received an sd card reader that I ordered from amazon. I ate top ramen instant noodles for dinner again. I then went on twitter and reddit for a little while before getting ready for bed.

Day 25, Feb 16

This morning I went on twitter while ate a fig bar from the brand Nature’s Bakery and a “cutie” orange. I Listened to Spotify and sketched for a little using google images again for references. After that, I practiced piano and consumed several piano tutorial videos on youtube from channels called HDpiano and The Theorist. 

Later, I ate mixed frozen berries while continuing to watch youtube videos. After that, I went to the Como zoo and conservatory and took pictures using the Nikon D5000 camera for photography class.

Once I returned home, I used adobe Lightroom to work on the pictures I took. I then used google to check emails and canvas to check my homework. I ate some leftover Papa Murphy’s pizza from the other day for dinner and did some reading homework before getting ready for bed.

Day 26, Feb 17

Today I got up and and ate a bowl of corn flakes while scrolling through twitter and reddit. After that, I used canvas and google docs to work on homework before getting ready for school. Once I was ready for school I headed out. For the first time in a while It was warm enough that I didn't need to wear a big coat. Instead I opted for a university of Minnesota hoodie and a windbreaker jacket. I listened to music on Spotify on my way to school. 

During class we talked about a new project we are working on where we have have to redesign the branding for an event called Retail Connect. It was interesting to see design in the context of our own school. It felt more real and applicable to work on a project when I knew it would actually be used and that we would eventually see it in use at our own school. 

After I finished classed I walked home again listening to music on Spotify. I watched some news on nbc Kare 11 while I worked on homework using canvas google docs and Adobe illustrator. Later I ate top ramen instant noodles and some broccoli for dinner. I did some reading homework and then went on twitter for a little while before getting ready for bed.

Day 24, Feb 15

Today I had Eggo waffles and some strawberries for breakfast. I scrolled through twitter while eating. After that I spent a couple hours watching tv while continuing to use twitter and instagram on my phone. A little while later I walked around my neighborhood taking pictures for my photography class. I used my Nikon d5000 camera. I consumed music on Spotify while I took pictures. 

When I came back I used adobe Lightroom to view and edit the pictures that I took. I also used resources on canvas to work on this project. I ate an apple and some lays potato chips while I worked on this. 

For the rest of the day I pretty much just listened to music on Spotify while drawing in a Strathmore sketchbook. I used Pinterest and google images to find reference images that I could sketch. For dinner I ate a few slices of pizza from Papa Murphy’s. I watched Netflix for a while before getting ready for bed.

Day 23, Feb 14

Today I walked to school listening to music on Spotify as usual. I arrived about an hour before my class started so I would have time to complete and submit an assignment on canvas before it was due. During the class I used Adobe Lightroom and a Seagate 2TB external hard drive. I consumed a lecture and presentation about how to use these tools given instructor of that class Alison Malone. During a break in the middle of this class I ate a Clif energy bar. 

After class I was getting ready to leave and I went to go throw away the wrapper for my Clif bar and I had an experience like the one described in the “seeing as if for the first time” article we read earlier. I technically saw them everyday but only today did I really became aware of the fact that there were four different trash cans next to each other each labeled differently ( Trash, paper, organics recycling, and cans and bottles). I guess I didn’t really pay attention to the others because I usually only have regular trash only trash but once I really noticed the others I felt kind of guilty like I might have thrown my trash in the wrong one at one point. I also thought of the reasoning behind the separate trash cans and wondered if its something I should do at home or if I noticed it in other places.

Day 22, Feb 13

I got a ride to school again since its been really cold lately. I grabbed a fig bar before I left and ate it once I got to school. I was early to class so I went on instagram and sketched in my notebook for a while before class started. Once my web design class started I used web storm and canvas to work on what we were learning in class. After that class was over I sat in a study area of McNeal to work on homework and wait until my next class started. In my next class I used canvas and watched another group’s reading presentation on “Unwrapping Use Value” by Susan willis and “I Want that: How we all became shoppers” by Thomas Hine. 

After school I walked home listening to music on Spotify. At home I worked on homework using canvas and adobe illustrator. After that I watched Netflix while I ate a peanut butter and jelly sandwich. I noticed that we had two different jars of peanut butter. One was crunchy Jif peanut butter while the other was creamy Skippy peanut butter. I thought it was interesting how differently the two jars were designed. The Jif design looks more subtle and basic (just centered text over blocks of color) while the design of the skippy jar is brighter, with more dynamic illustrations and text, and overall funner. I chose to use the skippy peanut butter because I usually prefer creamy over crunchy peanut butter but I have to wonder if my decision was subconsciously impacted by its more exciting design.

Day 21, Feb 12

Before I got ready for school I made a peanut butter and jelly sandwich for breakfast. I’ve been eating that a lot recently because its really simple and easy to make but it still tastes good. It also makes me feel nostalgic about my childhood. I think its a pretty underrated food. 

I was able to get a ride from my aunt instead of walking to school today. Being able to drive to school vs walking has its benefits and drawbacks. For one it was much faster to get to school. Also, it was more social to have a short conversation with my aunt on the drive to school rather than walking alone. On the other hand, I get less exercise  and contribute to a larger carbon foot print (although I don’t know if its enough to make a significant difference) when driving. It was interesting to consider. 

At school I used adobe illustrator to work on projects in my text and image class. After I finished that class I used canvas and Microsoft word to finish an assignment for my career/internship preparation class. While I worked on that assignment I ate a “Sunbelt Bakery” granola bar. After I finished that class I walked back home while listening to a Spotify podcast. At home I used google and canvas to work on some homework. Then, I ate a bean and rice burrito for dinner and watched Netflix before getting ready for bed.

Day 20, Feb 11

Today I did the same thing as usual. I walked to school while listening to music on Spotify. I ate a cliff energy bar. At school I went to my web design class and used canvas and web storm to work on my assignments for that class. One of the assignments we are currently doing is to redesign a website. My group chose to redesign the website for a restaurant called Finnish Bistro so while working on it I also consumed the Finnish Bistro website and social media accounts. There were several aspects of the websites design that we took into consideration and thought we could improve upon. For example, it could have clearer easier to navigate pages, better quality images, less distracting backgrounds, and more effective hierarchy overall. Later In the day I used google and canvas to work on my $2 shopping spree essay. Once I was finished with school for the day I headed home again listening to Spotify. 

When I got home I ate a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and an apple while scrolling through twitter. After that I worked on homework for my text and image and career/internship classes. I used adobe illustrator, google services, and canvas to work on homework. I ate chicken tenders and a strawberry yoplait yogurt around dinner time. I then got ready for bed while listening to Spotify.

Day 19, Feb 10

Today I ate banana and granola bar for breakfast. I got ready for school and walked there while listening to a podcast on Spotify. I brought my camera again to take pictures for my photography class on the way there and back. At school I spent 30 cents on printing for a project for my text and image class. I printed this in the McNeal printing lab. Once I got to my text and image class I used adobe illustrator to continue working on this project. 

After I was finished with class for the day I walked back home while I continued to listen to the Spotify podcast I started in the morning. At home I worked on homework using canvas, google, and adobe illustrator. A little later I ate pasta for dinner while watching music videos on YouTube. After that I did some reading homework on canvas and W3schools before getting ready for bed.

Day 18, Feb 9

Today I pretty much did nothing all day but I did consume several things. In the morning I consumed a Kirkland signature granola bar and an orange. After that I consumed content from twitter and Netflix for the majority of the day before I had to start finishing my homework. I used W3schools.com to work on homework for my web design class. I liked using it because it was really clear, concise, and helpful website for learning HTML. I also used adobe illustrator and canvas for a different homework assignment I had to finish for my text and image class. Towards the end of the day I ate beans and rice for dinner and watched a little bit of the academy awards before getting ready for bed.

Day 17, Feb 8

Today was Saturday so I had no school or really anything to do besides homework. I ate Frosted Flakes and a banana for breakfast while I watched Netflix and went on twitter for a while. I showered and got ready for the day using dove, neutrogena, cerave, and crest products. I did my laundry using tide laundry detergent. I cleaned up around the house using Clorox, swiffer, and up & up products. After that I took a break and went on twitter and youtube for a while to entertain myself. 

Later in the day I started working on some of my homework for my web design class using Firefox, google, and web storm. While I worked on that I was also listening to music on Spotify and eating Takis. After deciding I did enough homework for the day I went to watch a movie on Netflix again while eating dinner. For dinner I ate a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and some carrots celery.

Day 16, Feb 7

Today I had photography class. On my way to school I brought my camera so I could take pictures for my project before class started. I used a Nikon d5000 camera. While walking I also listened to music on Spotify and ate a clif energy bar. I used photoshop to create tiff and pdf files with the photos I took and  submitted them using canvas. During this class everyone brought in the photos they took and we did group critiques for all of them so I was able to consume the photography of my peers. 

After class I walked home while listening to a podcast on Spotify. I worked on homework. I used a composition notebook and a mechanical pencil to go over my notes and work on upcoming assignments. I assume that the notebook’s brand is Exceed but the way its label is designed is a little hard to read for me. I think that the hierarchy could be better in order to more clearly and prominently present the brand name and improve the design overall.

Day 15, Feb 6

Today I used web storm, Firefox, safari, and google in my first class. Once I was finished with my first class I had a couple hours between classes. During this break I ate a clif energy bar and worked on homework. I used google slides to prepare for my reading presentation for my next class, Design and its Discontents. I also used adobe illustrator to work on a project making personal business cards for my text and image class. I also checked instagram and twitter every once and a while during this break. 

In Design and its Discontents, My group had to present our reading presentation. We used information from “Place and Space of Consumption in a Material World” by Laura R. Oswald and “The Theory of Supermarkets” by Jack Hitt. We used google slides and a projector to present our assignment. I used Unsplash and google images to find visuals for the presentation and used adobe illustrator to design my slides. 

I collected an image of one of the slides I created for my presentation because I actually ended up really liking the design and color scheme we used.

Day 14, Feb 5

Today I had oatmeal and an orange for breakfast since I start school later on wednesdays. I worked on some projects using google, adobe illustrator, and canvas. I used twitter for a little while before getting ready and leaving for school. On my way to school I listened to a podcast on Spotify. For class today we went on a “field trip” to the printing services building. We got to learn about the different types of printing they do and then see the printers/presses they use. 

After this field trip I had a career and internship prep class where we used Goldpass to learn how to look for internships and jobs. I listened to music on Spotify on my way home from school. At home I used google and canvas to work on homework. I also used Netflix to watch a movie while I ate chicken and rice for dinner.
