and then we meet lune, who is the legacy of her parents. who charted the course expedition 33 was to sail. who spent almost every waking moment of her life studying and learning for the expedition. lune, whose arms and legs are covered with pictos.

its living in my mind rent free! clea loves and hates him. loves and hates them. loves that her brother gave his life to save their sister. hates that her brother gave his life to save their sister.

she's mean and hurtful and blames her sister for their brother's death, rags on her pain and disability, but the safest place she could think her hurting baby sister can stay in while clea wages war is the world clea had made with their brother

(and then clea finds the false image of her brother. asks him to look after their baby sister.)

she tells alicia that the painting should be destroyed. she helps alicia hide it away from their mother like alicia asked anyway, even if she thinks it useless.

clea whose response to grief is anger. whose response is vengeance. clea dessendre whose axon carries the world on its shoulders.

clea had to be the one to tell her baby brother that he's dead. that he is nothing more than a ghost now, her baby brother that she loves and hates for saving their baby sister.

how do you think it went, when clea finds out she can't kill him? that she literally can't, he's been made immortal, not even bisecting his body in two, three, too many fourths, can remove this living falsehood

(do you also ever wonder about how she chose her brother's best friend to help kill her father's image of her? was simon even real? simon who would move heaven and earth for clea. maelle does not recognize him. did clea like him? or did she take him because her mother created another abhorrent lie in their lives?)

do you think she goes to find clea after? in new lumiere, still reeling from the knowledge that their fake family here can never die, she finds her mother's lie and claims its life in the only way she can.

(clea whose first conscious act upon waking is to look for a way out, refusing to be an image of somebody else, a tool in someone's hands)

this may have been her brother's world but she made half of it with him and she is deep in the blood of it—the colors, the islands, the pointy feet, the lingering shades, the stupid fucking mimes—as much as the world misses verso, it misses her too and the only way she can win the war that ruined her family is to destroy it
