Making Friends
Making friends in college can be an awesome but intimidating experience. So one main way to get to know people before you get to school and start the semester is through group chats. If you join a college group chat then you will be able to chat and get to know people who are in your classification and also talk to them about similar interests and their major and stuff like that, then when you get on campus y’all can meet up and improve the relationship. Another tip is to make friends with people in your major and in your classes. When you get to class make sure to familiarize yourself with your classmates and ask if they want to make a group chat, you don’t have to do it off the bat on the first day of classes just wait until your comfortable. Also intramural sports is a great way to make friends and get closer with others, playing what you love with people who share the same passion as you is a great opportunity to make close friends as well.

Romantic Relationships
Okay so relationships in college can be a mess so let me break it down for you. FRESHMAN GIRLS do not go after these freshman boys thinking that they are more mature or better for you because they are in college! They graduated high school just a few months ago just like you these are the same kind of boys you graduated with they don’t change. And especially not in college the ratio in most schools is more girls to guys and most guys know that information and will take advantage of it. Be careful! Know who you’re messing with lol. Second do not let these senior boys prey on you because they will! Lots of senior guys love when the new young girls come in and will be plotting on you so don’t fall for that either. Also don’t rush to get in a relationship in college, trust me you have time so just take your time to get to know people.

College fashion
Okay so heres the just about college fashion, specifically at an HBCU. After the first 2 weeks nobody cares anymore. Thats how it always is, you get your cute outfits all picked out and ready and do your makeup and hair for the first two weeks or so and then afterwards everyone goes back to wearing nike shorts, biking shorts, t-shirts, leggings, and oversized sweatshirts. This is because at college everyone has to show out at first and then everything will go back to normal order. Another reason why this happens is that we realize that we are all in college and honestly nobody cares about what you wear as long as you aren’t walking around in your pajamas or anything but even then nobody is gonna tell you about yourself anyways. Nowadays for class I wear my everyday sneakers with a t-shirt and leggings and i’m lucky if I get to put some highlight on before I walk out of the door, let alone a full face; but that’s just me because I don’t know how to wake up to get to class on time. But that will be in another post.
For those of y’all who can actually wake up and look cute to class lol:

Homework
Tumblr media
ALWAYS DO YOUR HOMEWORK. EVEN IF THE TEACHER DOESN’T PICK IT UP. And i’m not just saying this just because. Homework is a very important component to your grade in college, if you don’t want to fail then I would highly suggest doing your homework. Homework is what can bring your grade from a D to a B in college I kid you not. You’re going to have to be proactive too, do your homework ahead of time, don’t get stuck trying to submit things at the last minute either because in college a day late is most likely 50% off so you’re already starting off at an F. Just get it done so you can be stress free and get some sleep in.

College Parties
Tumblr media
So going to college parties as a freshman is very exciting, as it should be. So heres a few tips so that you are having fun and not feeling awkward the whole time. First tip is to make sure that you go to a party with a friend. If you don’t go with a friend then you are going to be feeling awkward the whole time and you’re going to end up sitting down half the time or the whole time on your phone wishing that you didn’t go at all. DON’T do this to yourself, go with someone that you know that you’re going to have fun with. If you don’t have someone to go with then you might as well not go, sorry to say. And plus it’s also safer to go with someone that you are more familiar with because at college parties people get drunk (especially guys) and you don’t want to end up in a bad situation without someone there to help. Second tip is not to go to every party, I know you probably feel like it’s college and you need to go to all the parties that they have being promoted but trust me you are going to get burned out and feel like parties are boring. THERE WILL BE MORE PARTIES TRUST ME. I’ve been in this situation before, don’t overdue it. Its fun to go out but its also fun to take your time and enjoy some time in.
Stay safe out there guys!

Syllabus Week
Tumblr media
Alright so the next part of my college survival guide is surviving syllabus week. So syllabus week is the first week of school and let me tell you it isn't like high school. High school syllabus week lasted at least a week and then we would get into work about halfway through the second week of school. DON’T EXPECT THAT IN COLLEGE! sweetie you will get a wide awakening. In college during the first class you will get your schedule with the homework assignments and the books you need for the rest of the semester and by the next class your homework will be due and so on with the syllabus. Its very straight forward and fast paced so don’t get behind or you will be cramming and having a panic attack!

Orientation Week
Orientation week of Freshman year of college is probably one of the most extra things ever I promise you lol, but its also really fun and makes your school unique from others. So my school’s orientation week was surprisingly ten days. Yes you read that correctly ten days. At first it annoyed me a bit because I always wondered what they could possibly make us do for ten days and I wanted to stay home with my friends and family longer, I honestly wasn't ready for college. My first night on campus I honestly was about to cry because I missed my bed so much lol, but enough about me you're not here to listen to my sob stories you’re here to learn how to survive orientation week. Orientation week is about 40% ice breakers, 50% singing, dancing and activities, and 10% information about the school. during orientation week they broke us freshman up into teams they called color squads and made us compete against each other and I heard other colleges do the same to try and get us acclimated. Basically if loud music, singing, dancing, and yelling isn't your thing then I would kindly advise you to stay in your dorm lol. I only say this because you’re in college and technically the orientation leaders cant tell you what to do because we are all around the same age, and they will tell you themselves that if this isn't your thing they understand and they'll tell you the more important events to go to. Orientation is also a great time to make friends whether you are into the whole loud dancing thing or not. Simply just talk to anyone and start a conversation, the first question that I was always asked in college was “What is your major?” or “Where are you from?” then after asking and answering those ask them what clubs they plan on joining or if they play sports or anything along those lines. Trust me orientation week isn’t as scary as you might think.
