You could be doing anything, and he just sneaks up behind you and asks you if you need any help. Now, this can vary from actual problems to "Want me to brush your hair for you?". He feels so bad if he can't help with what you're doing, like if you're stressed out by studying he really can't help, but still stays there so he can be your shoulder if you want to cry.
