tbh i think ive always felt like i should like lewis since he’s a poc. (im a poc). and of course i rate him highly and all that but i don’t really care abt him. but i feel like i should. ive only realised this recently and im trying to let go of that mindset. he actually really annoys me for no particular reason. and well i don’t need a reason to be annoyed at him. cuz this is sport and i can like or dislike anyone. something to think abt

funnily enough you're not the first person to say something like this to me. i do totally get the instinct and the feeling that you ought to like/care about him because it feels like there is an automatic connection because of race in a very white world (f1 and it's fanbases and fandoms are very white and very western imo), and i have definitely done this with other black people irl, but i also really dislike the idea that black people are a monolith, and that because we share racial qualities (this is worded badly but i don't know how to say it in english) that we must be alike or we must support each other. sometimes other black people are just annoying, and life is way too short to support a driver you don't actually like just because you feel you should. i think f1, and life in general, is more enjoyable when you're engaging with the parts you actually like, rather than the parts you feel you ought to like.
