My Journey Through Legal Aspects of Media

This class by far was one of the most exciting and educational classes that I have taken so far.  It was very informative and gave me a lot to consider when it comes to the direction that I would like to go in my career. 

 When it comes to my favorite assignments. I loved having the opportunity to cover a local event in my city that was celebrating filmmakers in Atlanta. I loved the feeling of speaking with people at the event and especially talking with people that created the event and being able to state my case of why this event is important for people to know about.  I really liked all the discussion board scenario's primarily a discussion about a case between Beverly Deteresa and ABC. It was great to be able to discuss and get opinions of others of things that I may have not been aware of or considered.  I loved it because I believe that the knowledge that I gained would be beneficial to me in the long run on ways to obtain information from specific sources. I gained knowledge on what you can and can not do when trying to get information as a reporter and how important it is to have knowledge of the laws that protect the freedom of the press. 

How will the knowledge you acquired this month prepare you to handle potential legal issues in the communications industry? With the knowledge that I have gained, I will be more careful and think things through before I do them as far as something being displayed media wise. I would continue to educate myself on the laws about the media so that I can possibly avoid some of the issues that I have observed, and or know the proper way that a case will be handle if I were to run into a legal situation. I will have knowledge that will assist the moves and decisions that I make moving forward in media.

I just turned in my final assignment for my writing for interactive media online class, and wow what a journey. In this class, they had us find local but important stories to write about as if we were writing an article for a newspaper or magazine or blog or something of that nature. It was so amazing how many opportunity to interview people as if I was an investigative reporter on a mission to solve something for an article, or just to bring light to something that is overlooked. What I appreciated about this class was that it was very hands-on and allows us to express ourselves and to grow as writers and as reporters. I'm excited to have had this experience and apply the things that I've learned from this class to my future career decisions and endeavors. I think that with the fact that I do documentary film this class will become a great practice tool for me. I could brush up on my research skills, and my interview skills. Research and the actual interview two very important things with documentary film. It is very important to learn how to get accurate information, and it is also very important to know how to interview people and make them comfortable enough to speak with you. about the subject at hand. We also had an opportunity to get feedback from other classmates about different ideas for stories, which I am very grateful for. The words that I came across was very encouraging and uplifting and always kept me excited about my final project. With the encouragement of my other classmates I was always excited to hear what others had to say, and if there were other individuals who found the importance in some of the things that I do as well. I also received a very encouraging detailed information and feedback for my professor they gave me kind of a blueprint View of the direction that I should go in or the direction that I should at least consider. I believe this is going to be one of the most beneficial classes to me as I push forward in my career.

My Journey

Hello, my name is Kelsey Hamler, and I am currently on my journey to getting my Masters in New Media Journalism. I am so excited about this journey, of new experiences and learning more and more about my craft. I am a filmmaker currently who does the most documentary film as my specialty. The fact that I do documentary film plays a big part in why I chose New Media Journalism. With documentaries, you are dealing with real life stories. And it is important to me to be a voice for the silent person. I also would like to touch on subjects that are considered taboo. So with this masters, I would like to learn more about journalism and media. I feel that it touches close to home with what I already do. And learning more about the different platforms of journalism. I'm so excited to be in the class that I am currently in, which is, Personal Development and leadership. With this current class, I plan to learn good habits to maintain a level mind while dealing with my industry of choice. I will contribute and practi=ce skills that will and would be beneficial to me in the future. I would like to also make connections with others in my field. I believe relationships are a good thing to have when you are a person that pursues a career in something of the arts. I love working with others, especially other females. I love girl power! But I love when several creative minds come together and create a masterpiece.  I am stepping into a new world of higher education, and though that can be intimidating, I think this will be a very beneficial time in my life. I plan to become a more knowledge about making the correct decisions when it comes to the stories that I follow. And within my industry.
