Was rewatching dominion with my bf and there's this one scene where Soyona and her guys get found by the French CIA. Everybody's shooting at each other and it's a mess and she just?? Walks through the middle of a shootout??? Like babygirl are you okay??? Do you need someone to talk to??? Like fr this is some Kenji type behavior I think she might be just a little bit suicidal.

Boyfriend speculated that she might just not have a concept of danger, like maybe she just doesn't comprehend that she can die, but that's not the case. When Brooklynn got ahold of her laser pointer and looked like she was going to sic Red on her she was scared. She understood that this was a situation where she could die. So sometime between that scene and JWD she either lost the ability to perceive danger (highly unlikely), or she stopped caring. The thing is, usually when that happens to a character, there's a narratively significant moment right before where something in them snaps. Circling back to Kenji, for him that was losing his dad. Almost immediately afterwards, his behavior becomes reckless, unconcerned with his own safety—almost erratic. And you could make an argument that Soyona has had that moment with Dodgson, but I don't think that's it. When she ripped that TV off the wall, it wasn't her losing control, it was a calculated, well placed emotional cathartic release as well as a scare tactic. It was her way of saying "you pissed me off, don't do it again." Moreover, generally a character's breaking point is something that happens to them, not something they do.

I think all in all it means that a) she's rapidly approaching a point of no return where she either loses so much of her self preservation instinct it gets her killed or she kills herself. It's a kid's show so I doubt they'll actually include a character's suicide but a guy can dream right? And b) I don't think she's reached that point yet. I don't think her story is over. I think she still has time to either right herself and do something to fix her situation.

I also think if she doesn't fix it she's going to die.

Soyona has been shown to be a person who's deeply invested in her business. It basically takes up her whole life, to the point where she doesn't have time for relationships and it isn't safe for her to do so. She's also shown to be a deeply lonely person as a direct result of this, which is mainly shown in the way she interacts with Brooklynn. The baryonyx pit incident could have easily been chalked up to a mere reflex on Brooklynn's part, but Soyona still latched onto her almost immediately, relying on Brooklynn to meet years worth of unmet emotional needs because she craves human connection so badly that was all it took for her to trust Brooklynn. It quickly became the only relationship she has that was anything other than completely transactional.

If Soyona loses both Brooklynn and her business, she has nothing left to live for.

Many people are marginally familiar with Pleistocene island faunas. Tiny elephants and deer, giant swans and tortoises etc. However the Late Miocene/Pliocene of Italy was also host to a unique island fauna. This is Gargano island home of the terror hedgehogs.

Only published in 2014 and goes to show that big discoveries can still be made. The large tortoise from here is also not described yet and there are abstracts talking about gecko remains. Non the less, as you can see in this size chart by JW, @arminreindl and myself, the fauna is still open for many fascinating images. Although we recommend to also have a look at the faunal stages put into this graph so you don't end up with impossible cameos ;)

Once again saw a post venting about Hiccup's character consistency between RttE and Httyd 2, specifically about how RttE!Hiccup would've blasted Eret's fortress to pieces and I'm like...

You're talking about RttE's Hiccup... who first had to deal with Dagur's men... You know, the guy he has 18 years of bad history with? And then the people Dagur associated with, the very same people who abducted Stormfly and left Astrid to die alone at sea?

The same Hiccup who dealt with the Defenders of the Wing... without trying to immediately confront them? First sneaking onto the island, because he had no idea whether these people were allies of Viggo Grimborn or not and he wasn't about to put anyone at risk by going dragon's blazing? Including the people who may or may not be his enemies?

The same Hiccup who dealt with the Wingmaidens, who abducted Snotlout and held him captive as far as he knew, still non-confrontationally because Heather recognized something about their Razorwhip-shed armor and thus followed her lead?

The same Hiccup whose island was invaded by fellow dragon riders so they could bully him and his friends away from their home and then their allies? Only for Hiccup to have a moral dilemma because he knew those Singetails were made to follow orders via chains and pain?

You mean that Hiccup? That Hiccup would take a single look at Eret's base and just blast it to pieces? For absolutely no reason? When Eret's fort was very clearly already blasted to pieces by something else and he and his crew responded, very reasonably mind you, to a pair of Dragon Riders coming right for them?

The answer is; no, Hiccup wouldn't.
