Living a Minty Fresh Lifestyle
Hi everyone, welcome to Simply Healthy! I am all about living a healthy lifestyle – this includes working out, eating foods that are good for your body, reading good books, and everything that can positively benefit your mind, body and soul. Today I want to talk to you about something I use daily, in my food, in my water, and on my body. What may that be? MINT! Mint is the name of over a dozen plant species, including peppermint and spearmint and it has a TON of benefits I’m going to tell you about today.
Health Benefits of Mint
Mint has a variety of health benefits, and that’s why I like to incorporate it into my everyday routine. Some of the benefits of include: help digestion, weight loss, relief from nausea, depression, fatigue, and headache. It can also be used in the treatment of asthma, memory loss, and skin care problems. For example, for digestion purposes, mint soothes the soothes your stomach in the case of indigestion of inflammation - it is widely known for being a potent remedy for irritable bowel syndrome. For weight loss, mint actually helps you lose it in a healthy way! As I mentioned before, how it helps with digestion, mint actually helps stimulate the digestive enzymes in your body and turn fat into usable energy. For instance, if you switch from drinking sugary drinks such as soda and add mint to your drinks, you won’t be consuming as many calories therefore, you’ll lose weight. I could go on about the health benefits, but ill end with my favorite one – the fact that it helps with headaches. I suffer from frequent migraines so mint is something that I truly value. Mint is a naturally soothing substance of course, so it can relieve the inflammation and temperature rise that is associated with headaches. Okay okay, I’ll stop with all the technicalities, all though – you should take note as mint can clearly be a useful and beneficial herb. Mint On The Daily
Mint can be used on a day to day basis. My personal favorite is my mint essential oil. Like I mentioned earlier, when I have a headache, my mint oil always helps. You can rub it on your temples, back of your neck and behind your ears – the cooling sensation will relieve your pain and it is a must have! Other ways you can use mint in your day to day life is adding it to your water. I buy fresh mint leaves from Trader Joes and add it to my water bottle every day – it offers me all of those health benefits I mentioned above, and it makes the water taste extremely refreshing! Other ways you could use mint is by incorporating it into your foods for flavor. Some ideas could be adding it into your cocktails, smoothies, salad and even adding it to your tea!
