kennedy smiled. she was feeling super confident about her future work now. "good, i'm glad." the blonde knew her work was cliche, and she sometimes felt like just another young adult romance writer. lately she felt like her work didn't stand out, but now she was feeling inspired and more confident. it was just the boost she needed. "i think that can be arranged." she laughed. "she's 18 now, we practically grew up together, i was only sixteen when she was born." the blonde tugged at her lip. "oh, i love the catskills. do you visit home often?"

"i look forward to reading it." because, come on, of course jo knew kennedy's work. she didn't live under a rock. she just wasn't always reading fiction, so a few of the novels were collecting dust on her shelf. "get me an arc once it's done and i can get it intto the hands of all the pta moms once it's released." she found herself nodding in agreement. she didn't always find like minded people when she was wandering around town, but there were definitely worse ways to spend an afternoon. "how old is she?" she never thought she'd be one to talk about what was popular for sixth graders, but here she was. jo nodded, though better of it, and shook her head. "upstate. near the catskills. some of my extended family's still out there." thankfully she'd escaped to bigger and better things, even if she sometimes wondered about that place...and what who she'd left behind.

kennedy re positioned herself, looking at the other. she lived in new york for years, she should know better than to zone out on the busy streets. "me either, which is not the safest thing to do around here." she joked, looking at him. she looked at his new tattoo. "wait, i'm obsessed." the blonde was very artsy and loved drawing, she loved to design tattoos for friends when they asked. she was too scared to ever get herself a tattoo, though. "it looks so good." kennedy tilted her brow, looking at ty. "maybe one day i'll take you up on your offer." the blonde smiled slightly. "i'm kennedy, by the way. i also have no tattoos, but i'm super jealous of everyone who has them, they always look so good."

ty held an arm out as if to steady the stranger he'd almost tackled, but when he realized she wasn't as clumsy as he was, he tucked his hands into his pockets instead, shoulder lifting and falling in answer to her apology. "nah, i wasn't looking where i was going. you're good." his eyes lit up when she asked about his new ink and he extended his arm to show off the rose. "they're doing flash tattoos for a little while longer if you're looking for a reason." he rocked back on his heels slightly. "i'll even come in and hold your hand if you want." when he played that back in his head, it sounded incredibly awkward. why had he said that to someone he didn't know? he cleared his throat and shoved his hands further into his pockets. "that was a joke."

kennedy nodded in agreement listening to jo, she was glared someone shared the same thoughts as her. "right?" she laughed, shaking her head. she didn't have many friends who thought this into lesbian holiday films, and the more she thought about it, jo was right. she should write a cheesy lesbian christmas novel. "that can be arranged." kennedy smiled. "i really think i'm going to write a christmas novel inspired by this conversation, i'm glad we met today." the blonde meant it. she was stuck in her writing and she felt like she finally had her mojo back. "torres, got it." she took a long sip of her water. "oh wow, that's super impressive. i never did well in my science courses so that's really cool." she looked down at jo's lock screen. "oh my gosh, i love that. he's adorable." the blonde understood the feeling. "my little sister is like my best friend so i get it. it's a little different, but." even though it wasn't to kennedy, she knew the exact feeling. "did you grow up in new york?"

she paired an eyeroll with a sigh. "and in one of the biggest ones that does exist," she said, leaning in conspiratorially. "the lead ends up with the gilfriend instead of the perfectly capable ex who's now a doctor. it doesn't make sense." she gave kennedy an easy smile. "i'll settle for an advanced reader's copy and a mention in your acknowledgements. the last name's torres, by the way." she leaned her cheek on her hand and studied the blonde for a moment. she could lie. but why? it wasn't like it really mattered. "anatomy and physiology, mostly. a little bit of embryology." she shrugged, like it was nothing. her smile brightened as she slid her phone towards the other woman and tapped the screen. her son was, of course, her lock screen, decked out in yankees gear and holding a foam finger the size of his head. "jake. he's pretty much my best friend." which might be sad to some people, but it wasn't to jo.

kennedy was in her own world, her headphones so loud she couldn't hear a thing. she was cooped up in her apartment all day, so she decided to go for a walk and get some inspiration for her writing. the blonde was watching life pass her by when she felt herself crash into someone outside tattoo kiss. "oh god." she pulled out her airpods and caught her breath. "i'm sorry, that's on me. i should have been paying attention. i was in my own world." the blonde brushed a piece of hair behind her ear. "did you get a new tattoo?" she pointed to the tattoo kiss behind them.

he wasn't sure what possessed him to get a(nother) tattoo, but he'd played a good game, was a little bit drunk, and they had an off day tomorrow, so when ty passed by the tattoo shop on his way home, he'd stopped in his tracks at a lit up sign for flash tattoos. he had a little extra money in his pocket from a bet with one of the guys and it was practically burning a hole in it, so an hour later, he left the shop with a freshly done rose on one forearm. "oops, sorry," he said, sidestepping someone on the sidewalk as soon as he exited the store and rubbing the back of his neck. "didn't see you there."

kennedy laughed, looking at parker. "i'm glad i didn't startle you too bad." she smiled hearing them agree to a coffee. "perfect! it'll be my treat." she laughed again. "fair enough, i did stretch. i also do not want to be in any pain. i'm in pain almost everyday from being hunched over on my laptop. hence why i'm at the gym." kennedy nodded. "yeah, i'd love that. i would love the company, it would motivate me more." the blonde smiled at the other. "honestly, probably just full body. i haven't worked out in so long. any suggestions on getting back into it?"

parker snorted, dismissing the apology with a wave of its hand. " it's you! you're always welcome to beat me here, kennedy," it said. it hummed as it stepped back around the counter. "a coffee after can be arranged! as long as you've stretched, that is. i will not be held responsible for you being in pain!" it laughed, shaking its head. "i don't need anything! i'll probably just join you for a bit until my first client comes in. what are we working on today?"

kennedy nodded. "that's true. christmas is my favorite holiday too, so that would be super cute." she raised her eyebrow listening to jo speak, she loved her ideas. "huh, that's a good idea. there's like barely any gay christmas movies." the blonde loved the new hallmark movie that had just come out this past holiday, but there really wasn't many. jo had a point. "also a good idea. there's like no true crime inspired books or movies that are gay." the blonde raised an eyebrow. "i think you've inspired me. i promise i'll credit you when my book blows up." kennedy half jokes. she had so many ideas in her brain, she needed to pick one and go with it. "oh, columbia, impressive. what do you teach?" kennedy tugged at her lip hearing that jo was a mom. "i'm jealous. i've always wanted to be a mom." she swallowed, it was true. "what's their name?"

"write a christmas book. they're always dying for more of those." jo looked thoughtful as she chased some condensation down her glass. "but make it gay. those movies are really formulaic, but that might make me watch one." she could count the number of gay christmas movies on one hand. and the biggest one she could remember ended with the main character choosing the wrong woman. it was ridiculous. she nodded right back. "yeah. gone girl but also gay? just spitballing." she never knew quite how to answer this question. if she admitted she was a doctor, she'd sound pompous. it wasn't like she was practicing. "i teach at columbia." not a lie, but a half truth. "and i'm a mom to a twelve-year-old, so that keeps me pretty busy."

kennedy hadn't gone to the gym in so long, it was long overdue. she had been hunched over her desk for the past few weeks. the blonde decided to get to the gym as soon as they opened or else when she got her day started, she never would go. the blonde made her way towards fearless gym and went into the locker room.

just as she opened the door, she saw parker get startled. "oh parker, i'm sorry!" kennedy said to them. "i just got here a little bit ago, i had to come early or else i wouldn't have ever came." she laughed, tightening her ponytail. "i will need coffee after my workout. i have an alani nu for now." she held up her hydroflask. "do you need anything? to help your heart calm down after i scared you half to death?"

parker spent so much of their time in the gym, they often joked they practically lived there. sure, they paid good money for an apartment, but they couldn't stand being still or alone for long. because of that, though, it meant that someone rarely beat them to the gym. it startled as it opened the door, eyes wide before landing on the other figure in the room. "you're going to give a guy a heart attack!" they exclaimed, stepping behind the desk to clock itself in. "how long have you been here? and do you need coffee?"

kennedy nodded slowly, taking a sip of her water while she listened to jo. the blonde saw the smirk on jo's lips and she shook her head in a joking manner. she had a gut feeling that jo probably knew who she was or at least heard of her books. kennedy laughed and nodded. "yeah, that's me. that's one of my earlier books, so i'm glad to see it's still being read or at least heard of." kennedy loved that book of hers and was super proud of it, sure it was cheesy, but it was cute and a light read. "it's like my dream to have that book become a cheesy hallmark movie." she laughed, brushing her hair over her shoulder. kennedy tilted her head to the side and thought for a moment. "a thriller, huh." the blonde loved true crime documentaries and podcast, she was sure she could come up with a good thriller based on everything she has listened to over the years. "i think that would actually be pretty fun to write about. i could do like a murder mystery type thriller." kennedy looked at the other. "what do you do? sorry, i feel like i'm talking way too much about myself."

"i don't really read," jo said, though the upturn of the corner of her mouth probably gave her away. she'd spent many a lazy sunday curled up with a good book, actually, though she was more likely to be caught listening to audiobooks during a commute or while doing things around the house lately. she could picture the woman's picture on the inside of a dust jacket, though, and she snapped her fingers when it came to her. "oh wait. you wrote that one about the couple getting snowed in over christmas, right?" she chuckled softly. apparently kids thought that was the type of book all moms read, because jake had proudly gifted it to her last christmas. she was fairly certain it was still collecting dust on the shelf. "you ever thought about doing a thriller? bet it'd really catch your readers off guard."

kennedy decided to get outside for some fresh air, she was stuck in her apartment far too long. she put in her airpods and started to walk downtown towards sweet nothings. the blonde saw elena leaving and just as she took her headphones out to say hi, she saw everything drop out of elena's hands. kennedy ran into the street and picked up the treats that made its way on the street. "i got it." she called out, picking up all the treats. she made her way over to elena. "i got whatever fell onto the street, do you need help? this is a lot of stuff, where are you heading with it all?"

♕ — Admittedly, Elena should have known better than to handle everything on her own but it was her pride that led into the situation she was in. She agreed to drop off the unsold items, but found herself delivering them all by herself. As soon as she locked up the shop, one of the baskets had dropped from her hands and the wrapped treats tumbled out on the street. "Shit," she cursed under her breath and carefully set the other containers down and started to pick up after her. "Just great."

"i think you got it!" kennedy crossed her arms over her chest, looking at the banner that carter had just readjusted. kennedy nodded. "well, i love the decorations, super festive!" she smiled. "ooh, any particular reason why?" the blonde didn't mean to pry into carter's personal life, but she was a helpless romantic. "do you have a valentine this year?"

"ugh, i've adjusted this thing a billion times." carter pulled the banner a little to the left as suggested by the woman. "it was my idea to decorate, hence the super last minute decorations." she chuckled. "i'm not usually big on valentine's day but i'm feeling it this year. "

the blonde looked up from her phone to see carter decorating a heart banner. "not really, no." kennedy squinted her eyes. "a little more to the left." the blonde clapped her hands together. "i love valentine's day and all the decorations. it looks so cute! was this your idea to decorate?" kennedy asked the other. it was true, kennedy loved valentine's day and all things romance, even when she was single. kennedy was such a hopeless romantic and valentine's day was such a fun holiday to decorate with pink decorations and spend time with her friends.

carter was never a big fan of valentine's day, whether she was single or not. now that she was supposed to be in the honeymoon phase of a new relationship, she had to keep up appearances. she had suggested to the owner of holy grounds that they needed to decorate and somehow ended up doing the decorating herself. carter looked over to one of the patrons after she finished pinning up a heart banner, "how does that look? does it look straight to you?"

kennedy was in the zone this afternoon when it came to writing. her creative juices were flowing and she didn't want to stop to cook anything so she decided to go to waverly place to get a quick bite and continue working. after she ordered, she put her airpods in her ear and continue to furiously type away. she knew it would get crowded and she didn't want any distractions. after she successfully wrote another chapter, she looked up and saw the line get more and more crowded. she felt someone sit next to her, in the now empty stool, and she turned her head towards her when she heard her speak to her. kennedy took out her headphones. "me?" she shrugged her shoulders. "i'm an author so i'm on social media a lot, maybe that's how. i'm kennedy, if that helps."

jo was in between classes but wouldn't have time to swing by home for lunch, so she stopped in one of her favorite lunch spots. they made a mean grilled cheese. she wasn't the only one to have the same idea, though. the line was nearly out the door, but jo had time to kill...and she was really craving one of those sandwiches, so she scrolled through her phone until her turn to order and staked the place out for an open seat. an older gentleman had just finished up so jo took a seat on the open stool and turned toward the person next to her, trying to decide if she knew them or not. she wasn't sure, but-

"i know you, right?" she narrowed her eyes slightly, trying to place them. "how do i know you?"
