Deinfluencing the Stanley Tumbler- Cons of the celebrated cup
Now this may come as a shock, but the cooler your water bottle is, will not make you drink more water. To be quite frank, I have never even considered making a judgment on someone based on what they're drinking out of.
Tumblr media
I myself fell victim to the Stanley tumbler trend and as a first-hand user I can tell you, they are most definitely not worth the money. The positives of the Stanley tumbler are mainly based on its look, colours and convenience of a straw and handle. Although, these positives can be found on many different types of water bottles. The Stanley Cup retails for around $40-$60 and limited edition styles are being re-sold and circulated for upwards of $100.
Allow me to point out the reasons why you do not need this cup. The biggest reason to me personally is the leakage, even the slightest tip of the cup there is water coming out of the straw, the lid, and sometime the sides. This is incredibly inconvenient as most of the time while using a water bottle you are generally travelling, in the car or at an event. Another big con of this cup is its weight. This water bottle is understandably heavy when full due to its 40ml (1.18ml) capacity, But even empty, you could get a bicep curl workout in with this cup. I truly sometimes mistake it for being full when it is completely empty due to its weight. This cup also does personally meet my expectations for keeping beverages cold. I've used many different brands and types of water bottles that have kept ice frozen for hours on end. With my Stanley, I find the ice is melted within a few hours maximum. The last and arguably the biggest con, It is incredibly difficult to clean. You are able to fully disassemble the lid in order to get a deep-clean, but the process of putting the parts back together is gruelling.
In conclusion, I do not think getting a Stanley branded tumbler cup is worth its price tag. As for dupes, any run of the mill, cheap, amazon cup with a handle and a straw will do you just the same at the Stanley.
