Kerfuffle
1 post
Hello! I'm Kerfuffle. I'm an aspiring skateboarder and skate filmer from the Midwest. Me being a teenager, money is hard to come by, so I work with what I've got. This is my place to share my joruney as a broke skater and filmer.

The cheapest way to go tapeless?
Recently, I came across an old camcorder at a Goodwill. I bought a few tapes to record footage with, but I soon realized I wasn't going to have the money to keep purchasing tapes. So, me being short on cash and wanting to go tapeless, I got to thinking what the cheapest way to go tapeless would be.
A few weeks ago, I purchased an $11 USB Capture Card for digitizing my tape footage. I soon realized this could be used to my advantage if I wanted to go tapeless for as cheap as possible.
Pairing this capture card with an Android phone, a USB-C to USB-A adapter, and the USB Camera app, I was able to go tapeless with decent looking footage to boot.
Considering I already had the Android phone and the adapter, all in I probably spent about $15. The extra $3-$4 was accounting for the purchase of Velcro so I could mount the phone's case to the camera and use it as a viewfinder while still having the ability to remove the phone with ease.
Going tapeless in this fashion means I can also, as crazy at it is, live stream with a camcorder from 1995! Thats nuts!
I have a Canon GL2 on the way that I got for a decent price, and I have ideas for a more elegant way to go tapeless with that. Once that and the other parts I require arrive, I'll be sure to make a post about that method, too.
