Today is my actual graduation ceremony!!!!

I got my graduation regalia!!!! The commencement is the second week of December ☺️ Look how fancy 😂

It’s just a rental! The photos don’t show the doctoral hood though (which is no longer an actual “hood” but a similar piece of draped fabric).

Also talked to my committee supervisor this morning, just to prepare for my defense on Thursday, and he said this was the smoothest dissertation he’s ever overseen insofar as neither he nor the readers had any major issues or problems with my work at any point. That honestly made me tear up a little 🥹 He also said the defense should be easy, since nowadays they don’t really try to trip you up or anything like they used to do and because my work is so professional 👍

Got a reply from the formatting TA, and she says it still looks fine!!! So I’m good to go 👍 Less than a week to my defense!!! One week from today y’all will have to call me Dr. Kerry 😂

Job is official 👍 Done re-editing etc. the dissertation and now I just need to wait and see if the chick from formatting will take a look for me. Defense is a week from Thursday 🥹

So because one of my readers sent me edits like 2 weeks before my defense, I am going to have to talk to the person about formatting again 🤬🙄 Like honestly this is so uncool. But to be fair there were errors and now they’ll be fixed. Still annoyed. I refuse to look up more works at this point, like come on. Proofreading is one thing but adding stuff is just such a pain at this point 😩

I just did the whole thing manually. I do not know how else to do it. I hope they let it go but I really don’t know how picky they are. I mean if this affects my graduation I will sue not even kidding, bc if you are going to force people to use only ms word then I should be able to do everything easily in the free online version or else it’s predatory.

This formatting shit has me in tears no joke. The feedback email basically said “fix the table of contents” but didn’t tell me how 🤬 I don’t know what to do.

It won’t let me manually enter the corresponding page numbers, and the menu that links to each section that ypu can open on tne side works just fine. But the page numbers on each of the sections of the table of contents are wrong on the first few and then just have the same number on the remaining ones.

How can I fix it if I can’t do it manually 😢

So, I haven’t graduated yet, but John got me a doctoral sword and it came today!!!!!

Even though I am obviously not getting a Finnish PhD, we kept talking about the tradition and how cool it was (and unfair that we don’t get one here in the US) so now I have my sword 😂😂😂 Coolest present ever!!!

It also has my name engraved on it: Dr. Kerry 👍

The seal is a Finnish university bc obviously they don’t have mine. Isn’t this awesome?!?!?!

Actually it’s official: my defense is scheduled for November 21st!!!!!!!!

So I’m still waiting for feedback from my one reader but she said that she doesn’t foresee any major issues, so it’s okay to go ahead and schedule my defense!!!! Once I hear back from the other two committee members I can go ahead and schedule. Hoping to do it right before fall break, so the 21st or 22nd; if they can’t do that, I’ll try to do it the week after, so December 2nd-ish. Can’t believe I’m going to be done soon!!!!

Until then I get to basically chill—other than start thinking about job search. I might see if they’ll pay me to teach a couple classes for spring. If I can do online, then I can move without issues if an opportunity comes up 👍

I AM DONE FORMATTING!!!!!!! Little (big) issue: my table of contents won’t configure the right page numbers 😬 and the template won’t let me do them manually 🙄 But since this is a preliminary review, and you have until December to get final approval, I decided to just upload it as is and leave a note with it. I also emailed the person but then I didn’t feel like waiting lol.

Can’t believe how close I am!!!!! Now I need to email the reader who hasn’t gotten back to me yet, send my conclusion for a once-over, and schedule my defense 😳

Done formatting with everything except the works cited. Hopefully the review won’t fnd very many problems 😬 It came to 173 pages 👏👏👏 So excited to have a break after tomorrow!!!

I’m done with the first three chapters of formatting and the initial pages, abstract and dedication etc. It’s due Friday so I have plenty of time left 👍 Didn’t know how to thank y’all (“thanks to my tumblr buds”? 😂), but in all seriousness please know that I appreciate everyone being so supportive. It means the world ❤️

Also got feedback for the last three chapters (all minor and mainly proofreading issues) from one of my readers, so I am feeling much more confident!!! I’m really almost done 🥲 Well, except for the pesky defense 😂

Got a little formatting done but in my defense I didn’t know that I had to write an abstract and trying to do so in 350 words was challenging lol. Anyway, more formatting tomorrow, amd this will start to get difficult bc I have to consolidate everything in word and add everything I haven’t yet 😩
