I think the historical treatment of left handed people is objectively the funniest form of bigotry mankind has ever displayed

Andrew needing approval of his relationship from Aaron and Aaron demanding recognition of his relationship from Andrew. Andrew planning his kill for Aaron and Aaron killing on instinct for Andrew. Andrew killing Aaron's abusive mother figure, but putting up with abuse to keep his own mother figure. Andrew forcing Aaron through withdrawal and Aaron being forced to see Andrew drugged up all the time. Andrew sacrificing himself over and over again because if he can't be loved he will be needed and Aaron asking him over and over again to just be brothers. Andrew not trusting Aaron with his own self, but not showing enough of himself to convince Aaron to trust him.

thinking about how, for his whole life, people have forced Andrew - or tried to force him - to do things he didn't want to do and so it's ingrained in him to resist. Kevin yells at him, tries to get him to perform, and he's like nope. but then Neil comes along and ASKS HIM for things. he never demands or tells, he asks. and Andrew, when given the choice to say yes or no, chooses to say yes. because Neil gets it, that Andrew can't be made to follow orders - even when they're trivial Exy practice plays - that he needs the option to refuse
everyone: wtf is happening
Neil: I asked

The combination of 'unnervingly flawless self-control' with 'occasional tendency to engage in reckless, dangerous, and borderline self-destructive or death-seeking behaviour' in a character is SUCH catnip to me

idk if this is controversial or not, but I really like when non-professional writing like fic has hints of author bleedthrough when it comes to like, what different people assume is common knowledge. Like sometimes I’ll be reading a fic and it’ll just be obvious that the person writing it is either obsessed with medicine or has been to medical school, because they’ll use terms that are just a shade too technical without explaining them. It’s never the super specific stuff that they’d know other people are unaware of, it’s always the things that once you’ve known it for a while you forget it’s niche knowledge. It’s fun because as a fanfic reader it reminds me of how this is a fun hobby community, where everyone has their own thing going on outside of fandom. Everyone’s got their own specialties and they can’t help but write that into their work sometimes

one thing about Dan Wilds is that she, to her core, is a dork, an absolute goof. but only for the important people.
