Week 12 Hockey Operations
2/23/22 - 2/26/22
This week was playoffs week and a very short week. On February 23rd, we played Nazareth College at home making it the 1st playoff game at home in program history. I did not do much pre-scout work because the coaches used old video footage that I clipped and edited.
We defeated Nazareth college 4-2 winning the first playoff game in program history.
We then went out to Wilkes University to play in a semi-final game. The winner would go to the UCHC Finals with a chance to play in the Division III playoffs. We sadly lost 5-1 ending our season. Thankfully, I learned a lot of new things and made lots of connections along the way.

Week 11 Hockey Operations
2/15/22 - 2/19/22
We had a very short we as the team had a make-up game against Stevenson in Maryland. As always, I was clipping the entire game and reporting back to the coaches between intermission to have them look at the game footage. It was important for the coaches to review the game footage because Chatham was losing 2-0 until the 3rd period. In the 3rd, Chatham tied the game with less than 5 seconds to play. They ultimately fell 3-2 in Overtime but gained a huge overtime loss point which was critical in a tight standings battle.
Friday, we went to Wilkes-Barre, PA to play Wilkes University and Kings College. Chatham was defeated by the Wilkes University 6-3 in a hard-fought game. Chatham then defeated Kings College on Kings Senior Day 5-2. This clinched us a #4 seed in the UCHC playoffs and gave us atleast one home playoff game.

Week 10 Hockey Operations
2/7/22 - 2/12/22
On February 11th, we were back in Pittsburgh playing at the Hunt Armory rink for the 2nd time this season. It was alumni night for this game as well, so many former players at Chatham University were going to be there for this game. On February 12th, it was our Senior Day. This night we honor the Seniors for their hard work and dedication to the program.
I prescouted Arcadia who were playing the 1st night. Arcadia is a 1st year program so there were a lot of flaws in their game. I got really good Special Teams clips of them and also good clips of how they set up in Defensive Zone. I prescouted Lebanon Valley next, they had a lot of special teams clips because they are an undisciplined team so they are always on the penalty kill.
We defeated Arcadia on Alumni night 5-2 and then defeated Lebanon Valley 3-2 in overtime to clinch a playoff spot.

Week 9 Hockey Operations
1/31/22 - 2/5/22
This week I was going back on the road with the team on February 4th and February 5th. On the 4th we were going to Rye, New York to play Manhattanville College and then we would travel to Aston, PA to play Neumann University. I have prescouted these teams before and it was important that I did my best to edit and clip the most important things the team struggled with against these two teams. Because we lost to both teams before. I was able to get a lot of special teams clips for both teams to ensure our special teams units knew how to lineup against them.
We defeated Manhattanville College 6-5 with less than seconds remaining in the game. We lost a heartbreaker to Neumann in a 3-2 OT heartbreaker. We used my video clips to argue the OT goal.

Week 8 Hockey Operations
1/24/22- 1/30/22
This week, I was going on the road with Chatham University’s ice hockey team for the 1st time. We were going to Rochester, NY and then Utica, NY. I prescouted Nazereth College who we have played before. I really got good clips of their offensive and defensive zone play so the head coach can review the footage and use it to help gameplan with the players on how they will defend and attack them. I did the same for Utica on Tuesday who are a deadly team. They had just come off an 11-3 win.
We lost to Nazareth on Saturday January 29th 5-2. It was a disappointing loss based on the fact we previously beat them 5-2 at home. On Sunday, our software went down at the arena so I sat in the press box and watched the game at Utica on Sunday. It was one of the most packed arenas I have been to for a college game with about 1,500 in attendance. We lost 3-0 but played they 3rd best team in Division 3 hockey tough.

Week 6 Hockey Operations
1/10/22-1/15/22
This week I prescouted Kings College and Wilkes University. On Saturday, we were going to be the first college team to play a hockey game inside the old hunt army that was made into a hockey arena. It is now a public skating rink as well. Kings were outside of a playoff spot looking to get into a playoff spot. They were a good forchecking team. They played an aggressive style,so the team needed to be made aware of their play. Wilkes was a team that was 2nd in the conference. They were a good powerplay team, so I clipped all of their powerplays making sure that our coach was able to go over the strategy they were going to use against them.
We defeated King’s College 4-1 and took a picture at center ice after the victory. Unfortunately, we lost to Wilkes University in 4-2 heartbreaker, but they played a tough game against a good opponent.

Week 5 Hockey Operations
1/3/22-1/9/22
This ended up being a very short week and you can only imagine why. I did a prescout against Buffalo State college of the SUNYAC conference. We were getting ready to leave for Buffalo State and play them in an outdoor game. Unfortunately, positives tests came up for Buffalo State and the game was rescheduled 3 days later on January 7th. This time Buffalo State came to Chatham. We defeated Buffalo State 7-3. My coach was pleased to have the clips that I had recorded that showed a lot of good things that we did. Once again COVID cancelled our games for the weekend, so we were off for another weekend.

Week 4 Hockey Operations
11/29/21-12/4/21
I was home for thanksgiving break so I did not work the week before. The Men’s Hockey Team was playing in a thanksgiving tournament in NY. This week, I started my prescout on Lebanon Valley and Arcadia.
Lebanon Valley was a struggling team just outside of a playoff spot. I was able to capture really good defensive zone coverage clips of them because of their struggles, they were constantly in the defensive zone.
Arcadia was a team that was in last place in the conference. However, this is Arcadia’s first year with a college hockey program. It will take them a few years to really draw interest to really good players. Again, they were a team I got good defensive zone clips in my prescout.
I did not travel with the team on the road trip. Chatham won against Lebanon Valley 6-2 and Arcadia 4-2 capping off a big 6 point weekend.

Week 3 Hockey Operations
11/16/21-11/20/21
Tuesday 11/16/21, I started the prescout of Neumann University who are from Aston, PA. In the past, they have been a respectable so we could not take these guys lightly. I was able to clip a lot of forecheck and set breakouts for the players so we could get a good idea of their strategies. I then did Manhattanville college which is in Purchase, NY. They have a pretty good hockey program as well. I was able to get really good offensive zone and defensive zone plays so we knew how to setup in the offensive zone and defend their offensive zone play.
Friday, we played Neumann University. In between periods I bought the laptop to the head coach in-between periods so he can make corrections for the team on the fly. We were up 5-3 with only a few minutes to go and ended up losing the lead with only a few seconds to go. Unfortunately, Chatham lost in a shootout losing 6-5.
Saturday, we played Manhattanville college. The game was close all game as I was constantly clipping important aspects of the game such as neutral zone forechecks and special teams (powerplays and penalty kill). Again this game went into a shootout and Chatham fell to Manhatanville 3-2.

Week 2 Hockey Operations
1/8/21-1/15/21
Monday, I started of pre-scouting the Nazareth Golden Eagles who we were playing on November 13th. I look for a lot of important aspects like their set breakout, forecheck, offensive zone play, and defensive zone coverage.
Tuesday, I did the same thing for Utica who we were playing Friday, I had to be on top of my game when scouting Utica because they are arguably one of the best teams in the conference.
Friday was gameday against Utica, again was clipping lots of in-game plays and coaches used the film to make corrections on how to play against Utica. Unfortunately, Chatham lost to Utica 10-1.
Saturday, we faced off against Nazareth and we won 5-2. I was presented with a 1st NCAA win puck. It was surely a great moment and a great start to my career working in the hockey industry.

Week 1 New Internship
For my spring internship, I will be working with Chatham University’s Mens Ice Hockey Team as a Hockey Operations Intern.
I worked my first game in late fall against Stevenson University.
11/1/21-11/6/21
November 6th was my first time with the team. My current job with this team is do clip parts of the game for strategy and coaching purposes. A video camera is connected to my laptop. Someone will do the camera work while I do the video clipping. During the week I pre-scout other teams breakout and forecheck strategy so the team can learn how defend their tactics.
For example: When Chatham is in the offensive zone, I click on ozone play and it will capture our teams time in the offensive zone and when the puck exits i click it again which ends the clip of it. It is very important to capture offensive zone and defensive zone coverages so mistakes can be fixed at the next practice.
This was my first time doing this, so I was still learning.
Chatham unfortunately fell to Stevenson University 3-1.

We then traveled out to Caraopolis, PA to change the trash do facility upkeep of the fields where the Pittsburgh Riverhounds will start practicing in 2022. Wednedsay I did not work due a school project I had to complete. Friday was my last day. We moved some furniture around for certain guests. Then we went back to Caraopolis one last time. At the end, I thanked Zach who I worked with a lot for letting me work extra hours. I learned a lot on how the stadiums operations work on a day to day basis.

Week 11
11/8/21 - 11/12/21
Monday was the start of breaking down all of the concession stands for the season. Me and fellow stadium operations employees took down the popup concession stands and put them away for the season in the garage. We found a box full of keys that were not tagged with potential locks they would open. So we went around the entire stadium and tested 20+ keys on all the doors to see if they were spares for some of the doors around the stadium. Following that my job was to sweep up some of the hay left from the October theme at the stadium. Wednesday was a basic facilities day the entire day was spent cleaning the interiors of the building. Friday we took down sponsorship signs and other signs that had to come down since the season was over. We took down all the lights that were in the tailgate zone and took the Riverhounds Tailgate zone sign off the wall.

Week 10
11/1/21 - 11/5/21
Monday was a usual routine basic facility upkeep day. It was the last game of the season which nearly had a sold-out crowd. We cleaned the interior suites and vacuumed the floors. Wednesday we were getting set up for high school sectional soccer games that were going to be played at Highmark Stadium. We set up the furniture and TVs for parents and family who wanted to sit inside because it was expected to be cold. Friday was the gameday. There were 2 games one girls game and one boys game. Me and another intern maintained a good facility upkeep and at the end of games we were on field security making sure the students did not rush the field after winning the championship.

Week 9
10/25/21 - 10/30/21
Monday was a lot of cleaning up to do after a game that was near a sell-out. We cleaned the interior part of the stadium. The bar and restaurant inside the stadium were thoroughly swept and mopped. All the bathrooms needed to be checked and cleaned. Also a lot of trash need to be taken out and so I then did that. Again the leaves were a big problem so another person who worked in stadium operations blew the leaves in a pile and used my hands to put them in a bag for trash. Wednesday we revised the suites for the final game of the regular season. That took us a long time to do. However before I left Wednesday we put up playoff banners as the Riverhounds had clinched a playoff spot. Friday was prep for the game. A lot was double checking the tasks we completed throughout the week. We also made sure the players had their gear ready to go for Saturday. On gameday Saturday, I was put on parking duty. Not only was it super cold out but it was also pouring rain. I felt like a cat that doesn’t like water. After that I went inside, dried off and watched the game. After the game finished we cleaned up as much as we could mess wise.

Week 8
10/18/21 - 10/23/21
Monday we resumed our regular operation duties. We washed and dried the Riverhound players practice clothes and also provided them towels for them after practice. I power washed the stands since they start to get very dark stains when they are not cleaned up after days of staying there. Wednesday I cleaned the interiors of the venue. Bathrooms, Suites, conference rooms, and other offices were vacuumed /mopped. After that me and an another facility employee lined the field for Pitts Lacrosse team who had practice that night. Me and that same facility employee removed cones from the parking lot that were in reserved spots to prevent the public from parking in them. Friday was prep for the gameday that was home on Saturday, I made sure all the trash was taken out before gameday. I then went around the stadium with a leaf blower making sure that the leaves were blown off the stadium’s property. Leaves tend to be an issue towards the winter because there are a lot of trees in the area. I continued to clean anything that needed to be done before the game Saturday. Saturday I was put on parking duty with the parking attendants for multiple hours. I made sure that VIPs were put in the right spots up at the front of the stadium. When the game started I did ball retrieval. If a ball went out of play I made sure to go get it and put it back on the field.
