“Mac Office 2016 version 16 is now live! So, I’m a bit confused by what he means by “one codebase,” since there is no way these products are built in their entity using the same code. And I also know that Microsoft trying to base Mac Office on Windows Office was a major boondoggle in the late 1990’s/2000’s, so it’s interesting that things have evolved to the point where this is both viable and desirable today.

Stop Windows Update using Group policy

Note :  Group policy Feature only available on windows pro and higher editions. If you are windows 10 Home Basic user skip this Step. 

To disable Windows 10 update using the Local Group Policy Editor First open Local Group Policy Editor by press Win + R, Type gpedit.msc and hit enter key. Here on the Local Group Policy Editor window, navigate to the following folder:

Configure Automatic Updates

Now on the right side, double-click on the Configure Automatic Updates policy from the Setting list. Then on the left side, check the Enabled option to enable the policy. Then under options select the option 2 – “Notify for download and auto install” to stop automatic installation of updates. click Apply And ok To make Save changes.

Enabling and applying Notify for download and notify for install policy will now inform you if a new update is available on your PC and will ask you if you wish to download the update or not.

Also  If you select option 4, you can specify exactly when to install new updates. You can also choose to install updates during automatic maintenance, on a particular day and time, and you can even check the option to include other Microsoft product updates when updating the OS.

with this the policy will prevent automatic installation of Windows updates and you’ll receive a notification every time when ever a new update is available. If you ever wish to change it back to default, just select the option 3 – “Auto download and notify for install”.

Tweak Registry To Stop Windows 10 update installation

Instead of using the Local Group Policy Editor, you can Also Tweak Windows Registry Editor to prevent windows 10 Automatic Update installation.

Note : This method we are going to tweak windows registry editor. Before make any modification we recommend to take backup of current registry editor.

Now open Windows Registry Editor by press Win + R, Type regedit and hit enter key. Then On left side pane navigate to fallowing key.

Then Right click on windows select New -> key and name it to Windowsupdate.  Again Right click on Windows update New -> key and name it AU.

Create new key on Registry Editor

Click on the Au key then on the right side panel, right-click anywhere,  select New > DWORD (32-bit) Value option and Rename this key as AUOptions and hit Enter. Now, double-click on the AUOptions key and then change its Value data as per your choice. You can find out what these values mean:

2 – Notify for download and for install

3 – Auto Download and notify for install

4 – Auto Download and schedule the install

5 – Allow local admin to choose setting

For Ex If you want to stop Windows 10 from automatically updating your PC then set the Value data as 2.

Stop Windows Update Service

Also For windows 10 Home Basic Users To Stop Windows auto update installation simply open Windows Servcies by press Win + R, Type services.msc and hit enter key. Then Scroll down and look for Windows update service, Double click on it when you found.

A  properties window pop-up window will open Here, in the drop-down menu of “Startup type”, select “Disabled”. And click on Stop to Disable the Service next to Service status. That’s All Restart windows now on wards the update service is not start and windows never check for latest windows updates.

Metered Connection

Also if you are using WiFi connection then you can Set Metered connection to limit the bandwidth usage and restrict windows to download updates. You can configure metered connection from Settings -> Network & Internet -> WiFi -> click on the name of the network you’re connected to. Then under “Metered connection”, you’ll find a toggle called “Set as metered connection”. Turn this on and you’re done.

Windows 10’s Quiet Hours feature, first introduced on Windows Phone, is getting upgraded with the upcoming Windows 10 Redstone 4 release. Microsoft is currently testing a new version of the Quiet Hours feature in an internal build of Windows 10, first leaked by Synergy Insider+ on Twitter. The new Quiet Hours feature has lots of new customization features that make it way more powerful than the current Quiet Hours feature in Windows 10.

Following the initial leak, Rafael Rivera leaked some more screenshots of the new Quiet Hours in Windows 10, showing a couple of other customization features. Microsoft is adding the ability to enable Quiet Hours when you start a game, which will be really useful for when you don’t want to get distracted by notifications or…work.

The new Quiet Hours also features different modes and lets you set it to turn on the feature every day, every week, or every weekend during certain times. Basically, it’s just a super-charged version of what Quiet Hours is now. So yes, it’s getting a lot more useful.

The new Quiet Hours should be available to Windows Insider in the upcoming builds, which shouldn’t take too long to arrive. As for everyone else, Microsoft is expected to release the Redstone 4 sometime in March or April of this year.

As I am a little late into working on my graduate degree, a fair number of my courses have younger students in them. One can never escape group projects, even on a fully online degree. With that said, discussion comes up on how to collaborate. Being almost 30 years old, I grew up in the era where Microsoft was dominant. In a finance course where classmates are roughly 24-26, they grew up in the era where Google was dominant in most software and services, and continues to be today.

Growing up on Office, I consider myself somewhat an expert on its capabilities with formatting, tables, creating reports, importing Excel sheets and the like. To me, Google Docs feels like the Fisher-Price stepchild of Office. For complex situations such as grad school documents, reports, and appendices, Office has always worked, and worked well. Google Docs lacks many of the salient features that make it usable for such a case. However, my younger cohorts seem to blast away at it, however, lacking important formatting issues that Docs simply cannot manage.

Features such as hotkeys and second line indents, table of contents and research inclusion are quite difficult and not very intuitive on such a platform. Office does have everything Docs has and more, including the sharing feature and real-time coauthoring. This slight paradigm shift from Microsoft to Google domination of the market happened quickly, and does not make anyone think twice about what the right tool for the right job is.

I sure hope my teammates know what they’re doing in terms of proper formatting in Docs, because I don’t. At the end of the day, this is also why there are certifications for Office, but none for Google’s platform exist. Granted Docs is easiest for simple note taking, but again, OneNote solves all of those problems for me, and some. Even if the world continues to shift to Google Docs and its increased usage, I’ll be a loyal Office user for years to come.

Preview Versions of Office 2016 to the Windows Store

With the release today of the Windows 10 S-based Surface Laptop, Microsoft has brought preview versions of Office 2016 to the Windows Store as well.

“Windows 10 S runs the rich desktop Office apps including popular productivity apps like Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Outlook,” Microsoft notes. “The full suite of Office apps in preview are currently available to download today with Office 365 in the Windows Store for Windows 10 S. On Surface Laptop, you can simply open the Start menu and click on any of the Office app icons like Word, Excel, or PowerPoint to launch the download from the Store.”

In the off chance you’re not aware of what this all means, Surface Laptop is the first PC to ship with Windows 10 S, Microsoft’s restrictive new version of Windows. Excluding the apps bundled in-box, Windows 10 S only runs Windows Store apps, meaning that you can’t install traditional desktop applications like Chrome, iTunes, or Photoshop. But that means you can’t install Office 2016 either, since that suite of applications is designed for desktop PC technologies.

But as Microsoft revealed at the Surface Laptop announcement a month ago, it is bringing those applications to the Windows Store via its Desktop Bridge (“Centennial”) technologies. But this will happen over time, with just four apps today—Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint 2016—in preview, and as part of Office 365 Personal and Home bundles. (Office 365 for Education Plus and Office 365 Education E5 are coming, too. And Office 365 plans for business customers will also be supported started in 2018.)

Over time, more desktop apps in the Office 2016 suite will be added to the Windows Store, Microsoft says. (It has committed to at least Access, OneNote, and Publisher 2016.) And Microsoft will make standalone Office 2016 suites, like Office Home & Student 2016 and Office Home & Business 2016 available over time. These other apps, suites, and Office 365 bundles should all be out of preview later this year or by early 2018.

During the preview period, customers who buy a Surface Laptop (or, later, a Surface Pro) with Windows 10 S will get one year free of Office 365 Personal, a $70 value.

If you already have an Office 365 Home subscription, you can use the free Office 365 Personal offer to extend your existing subscription by 9 months.

Over time, the Office 2016 apps in the Store will be made available to customers in all markets supported by the Windows Store.

The Office 2016 apps in the Store do not currently support Office 365 business plans or volume licenses. (Again, that is coming in 2018.)

The Office 2016 apps in the Store are of course the 32-bit versions that we all use today because they are compatible with a broad range of Office add-ins. (Older COM-based add-ins are not supported, however.)

Windows 10 S users can, of course, use the Office Mobile apps if they’d like. OneNote Mobile is included as part of all Windows 10 product editions, including Windows 10 S.

Installed Office 2016 Store App on a Non Windows 10 S Machine

This week, I did a clean refresh of my Windows 10 desktop machine. I then went to the Windows Store to find my library and install any of the store apps that I still wanted.

I noticed that Word 2016, Excel 2016, Powerpoint 2016, Outlook 2016, Publisher 2016 and Access 2016 were available for me to install. So I did, and they work.

I currently have an Office 365 Home subscription and I am not running an insider build of Windows 20 Pro at the moment. Has anyone else had a similar experience? It was my understanding that these apps were limited to Windows 10 S, Office 365 Personal and the latest insider build.

Windows 10 S Insiders Receiving Windows 10 Pro Instead of S

Here’s a quick public service announcement, if you are running Windows 10 S and are in the Insider program, be aware that when you are shipped a new build, it will likely move you to Windows 10 Pro.

I’m not exactly sure when this change happened but I was able to confirm the issue by taking a Surface Pro running Windows 10 S, enrolling it in the Fast ring of the Insider program and updating to the latest build. After doing so, my machine was running Windows 10 Pro, instead of Windows 10 S.

While this can be considered a big issue for those users who are adamant about staying with Windows 10 S, I suspect this won’t impact too many users. That being said, if you are running Windows 10 S, it’s advisable that you do not enroll in the Insider program until this bug is fixed.

I did ping the Insider team about the problem, so they are at least aware of the issue.

How to install and activate Microsoft Office 2016 pro in Windows?

Our following instruction might be hard to understand and not really clear to follow, you should look at the images and compare with the screen on your computer during process.

1. Extract the downloaded file into a new folder named Soft (for example), you get Office 2016 pro installer and activator tool.

2. Run JATDevice.cmd file, hold A keyboard to choose Activation Menu.

3. Press D too choose DOWNLOAD/INSTALL OFFICE 16

4. Press I to choose INSTALL VNEXT OFFICE

5. Look at the following image: Enter > Press 1 to install Office 2016 > Enter > Press 0 > Enter > Press 0 > Enter > Enter > Press 1 to install > Enter.

The installing processes begin and will be finished within 20 minutes. You can close the JATDevice.cmd.

6. To get Office 2016 pro activated, you must Close Office 2016, run JATDevice.cmd again under administrator permission > press A then C to make tool convert Office version > press P to confirm. It might be hard to follow, so look at the picture below:

7. The tool should be closed automatically once the process is finished. You need to run JATDevice.cmd again to do further steps. If the tool is not closed, press B to turn back the main screen.

8. Press 1 to activate.

9. You then be asked if you want to activate win 8 or win 10 (choose A to agree or S to ignore). And then press A to activated office professional 2016.

10. Press Enter when you see “set host” and “set port”. You should restart your PC when the activation process is finished completely.
