So I do ship soriku but I am also oblivious as hell. Could you explain "Riku is literally canonically implied to be in love with Sora???" this for me and how it's shown? 8D

The short answer is that in the Japanese version, Hercules uses the same phrase to describe “the person he loves most”- Meg-  as Riku does about Sora- Taisetsu na Hito

In context this almost always means “the person most precious to me”. 

In English, Herc’s dialogue is appropriately translated as “If I stayed, I’d have to be apart from the person I love most.  And that life would be empty.”  Yet Riku’s line, despite explicitly being about a precious person just like Herc’s line, is translated into “Strength to protect what matters.” Far more vague and broad, though we know enough about Riku to be able to assume even with the inaccurate translation that he’s thinking of Sora.

It’s also important to remember that these two scenes come one right after the other.  This is absolutely deliberate.  You are meant to make the connection between the two- Herc and Riku finding the strength to protect the person they love most.

There are other elements that add to Riku being heavily implied to love Sora more than platonically, but I’ll get into those later.
