am I alive? I'm not sure
anyway, here's the idiots because I miss them

It was many and many a year ago,
In a kingdom by the sea,
That a maiden there lived whom you may know
By the name of Annabel Lee;
And this maiden she lived with no other thought
Than to love and be loved by me.
"What are you reading?"
Nameless' head snapped up, as if the man who had approached her had suddenly appeared just now, with these tired eyes of his and a... bowl of food?..
"Poe, thank you." She took the bowl in her hands after a moment of hesitation. Her cold fingers faintly brushed against Keegan's rough, but warm digits.
He fell on the ground next to her, a bowl of his own in his hands as he turned to face Nameless again. Thin lips curved up into a small smile as Keegan's eyes observed her for a few moments. Somehow, the dim light of the campfire softened his usually gruff, angled features, making him look almost gentle. Nameless stuck her nose back into the book on her knees, swallowing the butterfly, annoyingly tickling her somewhere in the diaphragm.
"Poetry? Huh... I was never a poetry guy. Do you like it?"
"Yeah, mum used to read me a lot." Nameless drawled quietly, sending a spoonful of broth in her mouth. Keegan smiled as she closed her eyes, savoring the rich flavor on her tongue.
"Yeah? Mind reading something for me, then?"
He took his own spoon, but instead of paying attention to his food, Marine turned his whole torso to the girl, his whole attention on her face. Nameless shivered slightly, not knowing whether the effect was caused by the piercing gaze of the man, or by the stark contrast between hot food and the night chilly wind that was stubbornly getting under her collar.
"Okay... Hmm, so..." she put the bowl aside, awkwardly flipping through the pages of the book. "And this was the reason that, long ago,
In this kingdom by the sea,
A wind blew out of a cloud, chilling
My beautiful Annabel Lee..."
Her voice, quieter and softer than usual, was only disturbed by the sounds of the night forest. Tender lyrics, accompanied by the crickets chirping, the crackle of the fire and the rustle of the wind in the dry leaves. At some point, Keegan found himself completely losing the thread of the narrative, instead focusing on the way lights from the campfire played on her rosy cheeks and the way her slightly dry lips moved, pronouncing the words from the poem which content he hardly cared about. He wasn't sure how much time had passed, but when she finally stopped and looked up at him, Keegan, with some embarrassment, understood that he had been smiling all this time.
He awkwardly coughed in the wide palm and turned away, finally giving some attention to his already completely cold food.
"Hm... Yeah, I'm still not a poetry guy."
Nameless couldn't contain a snicker of laughter, rolling her eyes in a lighthearted manner.
"You're an ungrateful listener."
"Yeah, I guess I am..."
"But our love it was stronger by far than the love
Of those who were older than we—
Of many far wiser than we—
And neither the angels in Heaven above
Nor the demons down under the sea
Can ever dissever my soul from the soul
Of the beautiful Annabel Lee..."
Keegan raised his eyes from the book. The gaze of his baby blues softened further at the sight of the girl in front of him. Hair in a messy bun, chapped lips slightly parted for better breathing–NG tube didn't exactly help with that. The whole picture may be almost considered pitiful, if not only the way she slightly smiled when he stopped, and nodded as if saying 'go on, continue'. Marine smiled to himself and immediately winced at the sharp pain shooting through his whole face from the big bruise on the cheekbone. The man could almost feel the way his brain shuddered, taking the damage. Damn, he was a mess himself... But did it really matter?..
Keegan cleared his throat. His deep, quiet voice rumbled off the walls of the empty kitchen.
"For the moon never beams, without bringing me dreams
Of the beautiful Annabel Lee;
And the stars never rise, but I feel the bright eyes
Of the beautiful Annabel Lee;
And so, all the night-tide, I lie down by the side
Of my darling—my darling—my life and my bride,
In her sepulchre there by the sea—
In her tomb by the sounding sea."
When he was finally done, the man looked up at Nameless and, noticing her dissociated look, felt a pang of nervousness. 'Huh... was it that bad?..'. Yet, a wave of relief washed over him when the girl met his gaze with a small smile and sat straight, just to give him a round of playful applause.
"Oh, be serious..."
He shifted awkwardly in his chair. The wooden piece creaking slightly beneath his weight. He felt the tips of his ears heating up slightly at the sound of her small giggles.
"But it wasn't that bad, was it?"
Nameless shook her head, leaning forward on her elbows.
"Hm," Keegan coughed awkwardly, trying to mask the way her awaiting gaze made the heat spread from his ears and down to the bruised cheeks. "Alright. Then, I guess, I'll read you something else."
