Here is an example of a research conducted about the effect of premature assumptions about a child’s ability on his performance. In a particular research it was studied how labelling a child could influence their ability in the eyes of their teacher. An IQ test was conducted and the teacher was told by the researcher that group A had students with higher IQ as compared to group B. However actually the students were assigned to these groups randomly and there was no real difference. At the end of the year the group that she assumed was intelligent was doing better and the one she assumed was less intelligent was doing badly. This was completely unintentional on the teacher's part but this test is only a glimpse of what is unknowingly repeated over and over by parents and teachers.
