❀ hello beautiful people of writeblr!

i’ve been lurking in this little corner of the internet for a while now, so I figured it was about time to introduce myself.

my name is kayli (she/her) but you can call me kay or ghostie! this is actually a side blog, so i follow from @bookishfreedom (and you can also find me on instagram at @bookishfreedom !)

❀ what i write

I write a little bit of everything, although most often fantasy and romance, and i always have multiple WIPs floating around. I’m really good at starting things, but not so good at finishing them… so I’m working on keeping one focus at a time

most of what i write is original work, but i used to be pretty into writing fanfic, and it’s something i’d like to get back into, if only a little. just as a low-pressure way to keep the creative juices flowing

❀ why I’m here

i’ve been writing for fun since i was old enough to hold a pencil, but i haven’t always been good at making writing a priority. i figure if I’m ever going to achieve my dream of someday being traditionally published, that needs to change

this blog will probably be a mix of things - writing excerpts, inspo, and whatever else writing related I come across :) hoping it’ll help keep me accountable, as well as being a fun way to track my writing journey.

and most importantly, I’d really love to make some writing friends 💖 so come say hi in the notes, i’d love to find lots more writers to follow and chat with. (i’ve never done them but consider me a tag game -friendly blog!!)

I’m 24, bi, and recently diagnosed audhd

I’m a software engineer by day, and by night i have far too many hobbies fighting for my attention (incl but not limited to: reading, painting, video games, hiking…)

in college i minored in both german and creative writing (because i am an indecisive bitch at heart)

I don’t have any pets of my own, but at any given moment I am almost certainly fostering at least one animal!

back from hiatus ig???? guess who's finally done with being an undergrad : D

now that i'm unemployed free i should have plenty of time to work on my main wips which have been collecting dust for the past few months... haha pray for me while i make my transition and settle into post-uni life.

one last news !!! i'm now on vgen for future writing + translation commissions !!! will drop more info once i figure things out so look forward to it ><

camp nano 2024 - day 2

i'm back for a bit! i haven't made as much progress as i hoped with writing (and i missed day 1 whoops) and i feel a little rusty, but i've just finished a writing session and managed to get 691 words in, bringing me to a total of 2,183 out of the 6,000 i have to write for my creative writing dissertation! i do aim to write more than that and i have 25,000 listed as my camp nano goal so i'm really hoping to achieve that.

i can't make a wip intro sadly as it is a uni thing and i'd rather not risk stuff and have it out here in a public space until i have it graded, but it's a project i'm super excited about and am frankly itching to introduce to all of you. i've also met with my supervisor a while ago and his feedback was incredibly encouraging and positive, and it meant a lot because i wasn't confident in my writing at all for this so it's good to know that i'm not doing as terrible :')

haha heyy it's me again...

and i'm here to ask if anyone would be interested in me publishing a short story collection? :0 i'm still working on my main wips of course but i have a few short stories i've written in the past that are ready to be posted after a few edits here and there! the collection will also be updated from time to time when inspiration hits — i guess it's going to be some sort of writing dump for me? and a place to showcase my writing beyond my super short wip snippets rip.

if you're interested, i'd appreciate if you could either reply or put in the tags where you'd prefer to read the collection online (wattpad, ao3, directly on tumblr, etc.)!

crying and sobbing y'all when people said that you only add scenes that advance the plot they didn't JUST mean the overarching plot. they meant the plot of the book... entirely. like a conversation between two friends can advance the plot by characterizing them and grounding them with a meaningful relationship. if your book doesn't have "filler" it's missing emotional beats. which are plot. which are important. fun and whimsy aren't mutually exclusive from what "needs" to happen in your book. the advice isn't bad it's just taken too literally stop come back.

synopsis!

Noe Crane is on his way to becoming a household name in his hometown of Las Glorias, California. His investigative talk show, Exposé, is known for delving deep into people involved in the ins and outs of the city, from obnoxious internet celebrities to ex-convicts and criminals. As a host, Noe himself assumes a rather eccentric—if not slightly controversial—persona on camera: witty, intensely brutal, and above all, an insatiable appetite for the truth. What the public doesn’t know, however, is that his quest for justice continues behind closed doors, as he partners up with his longtime acquaintance, Azra Moyer, becoming violent vigilantes hiding in the shadows. With the help of Noe’s mysterious ability to conjure and manipulate fire, they’d stop at nothing to cleanse the city of all evil and leave no trace behind, allowing them to tread safely between their two lives. But their work is jeopardised when a figure from the past comes back into their lives, reminding them of the days they thought they’ve left behind. Noe soon finds great danger lying ahead of his twisted sense of justice, and as he taps into his powers and how they came to be, he will discover that his perception of “evil” may have already overlapped with his existence itself.

noe crane || he/him. born 1991. main protagonist. popular talk show host and journalist with his own show, exposé. witty, bold, and charismatic, he knows how to charm his audience despite his rather unconventional approach to journalism. little is known to the public about who he is off-camera, as he takes good care as to keep his work and private life separate—for a good reason.

azra moyer || he/him. born 1991. deuteragonist. a reserved, highly intelligent criminal attorney with an impressive track record despite his relatively young age. he's a longtime acquaintance of noe, having known each other since their childhood, and acts as his right-hand man and confidant as vigilantes. while he's deemed trustworthy enough by noe, azra has his own secret to hide—one he will take to the grave if he must.

jesse shim || he/him. born 1991. antagonist. a mysterious figure who resurfaces in noe's and azra's lives after being presumed dead for two decades. he claims to be a social worker who has just moved back to las glorias after being away for two decades and shows great interest in reconnecting as long lost friends, but is that truly his goal in approaching them?
