DD: It’s ready-made nostalgia. It depends on whether Chris Carter wants to do it again. He certainly doesn’t have to. We always talk about it amongst ourselves. We talk a lot. Or I’ll text him and say “Do you have an idea?” Or I’ll say, “I have an idea for a show. I wish I had that one eight years ago. This would have been a good episode.” But generally I’ll be on an elevator with someone and the elevator will bump and they’ll say, “There’s an X-file.” And I’ll say, “Actually that’s not an X-file. That’s not a great story. The elevator just bumped.”

The coolest thing about teaching high school is that each year as the kids move up into grade 9,10,11 and 12, I get to show them this crazy cool show that was made BEFORE they were born. And it’s completely new to all of them (occasionally there will be like one kid who has at least heard of it) and they’re always completely intrigued by it. And always there are some (2 or 3 from each class) who are so fascinated and have so many questions that they immediately go home and start binge watching the series from the beginning. That show is The X-Files. And it will always have an episode that can be included in our text analyses, narrative visual analysis and any kind of theme study.

We’ve just launched into the study of the motif of water, what it can symbolise, how it drives plot and how writers use it for various impacts on the reader and viewers.

Today was The Rain King, perhaps next Agua Mala or that one where they both nearly die from drinking water that ages them rapidly.

Holy shit Mulder without Scully is so different. He's not making jokes, he barely smiles, and he just seems kinds of hollow. Like he's just going through the motions. And most importantly, he doesn't believe. Or he does, but it's severely scaled back. With the vampires, he immediately jumps to psychological problems, whereas in the past he would always be the first to take the evidence at face value. He's like a completely new person.

i honestly cannot imagine scully and mulder calling each other anything than “scully” and “mulder”. i don’t see them calling each other thing like “darling” on the regular, and i imagine that they could be 10 years into marriage and they’ll still be on a last name only basis (except for one or two times per year when they’ll call each other by their first names, but only when it is incredibly emotionally charged)

and good for them! i wouldn’t change their level of strangeness for the world!

Fail Better with Chris Carter

I haven't finished the Fail Better episode with CC, yet, but what I love is that, after all these decades, there are still new things that I learn about TXF and its actors. I live for the little tidbits and peeks into what happened behind the scenes and being reminded that the people who actually worked on the show had a very different point of view, in relation to the characters, than us, the viewers.
