Kai is desperate. In more ways than one – he wants to protect Ji-Wan, to stop Yeong from going after him. But then there's also the other side of it : he doesn't want Yeong to get hurt, either. And really, at this moment? That's what he's thinking about more than anything else. Because he's not sure that Ji-Wan won't rip him to shreds, if the hunter really goes after him like he's about to right now.

He grabs Yeong's arm, grip stronger than he'd usually ever use. Because the witch needs to stop him, needs him to get this.

Kai isn't an idiot – he knows the remnants of the Council back home are gunning it for him. He'd been doing mostly fine on the run the last few months, but he's tired. He knows he could use some help.

The thing is, though, right now? He's really not feeling all that safe. And it's on him, right, and he knows that. But Niran is too fucking close, and the witch's palms are sweating and his throat feels like it's closing and he's half sure he's about to have a heart attack or something.

The only thing keeping him sane at the moment is the gentle paws kneeding at his shoulder, soft little trills at his ear. ( You're all right, Kai, he isn't going to hurt you. It's just your fear talking – take a deep breath. )

And he tries, okay, he's trying. It's just that every time he closes his eyes – even so much as blinks – all he sees is the glint of claws in the late afternoon sun, slick with blood. His blood. And he was so small then ; the claws are huge in his mind, monstrous things that cast fat shadows across his trembling child form. The scars along his right side burn with the memory.

Niran is talking like nothing is wrong, like Kai isn't having a full-on panic attack right now. He's not actually. But he is hyperventilating a little bit.

He tries to focus on just the one thing, one focal point at a time. He forces himself to blink, swallow, and actually say something ; ❝ I destroyed their chapter back home. ❞

Okay, so maybe ❛ important ❜ is a little bit of a stretch. Like, is it really that important that Eddie help the witch test out a new tracking spell he's been working on? No, all right, maybe not. But does he think it'll be fun? Yeah, 100%, absolutely. He figured this is the kinda shit that's right up Eddie's alley.

Mikan perks up when she's acknowledged, a happy chittering to Eddie that Kai hears clear as day. ( Hello Eddie dear! ) There are a few compliments thrown into her greeting as she chatters on in the witch's ear.

She does, if very reluctantly, slinking around the back of his neck. Her head still peeks out at the collar of his t-shirt to stay involved. So few people ever actually include her. Kai isn't really going to dismiss her, either.

He's about to backtrack, to explain that there is no impending danger, actually. Unless you count the constant minor threat of just. Supernatural creatures existing out in the woods. ( Kai keeps trying to convince Wayne to move just a liiiittle further from the woods, but he won't listen. )

But in response to that blatant lie? Kai just scoffs. ❝ You're not in the mood for magic. You – Edwardo Cornelius Munson – ❞ ( he got that little tidbit from Lizzard themselves ) ❝ – are not in the mood for magic. ❞

He starts poking at Eddie, even lets Mikan scale his arm to scramble around the other boy's shoulders ( clumsily ; he's not as stable as Kai ) . ❝ Who are you and what did you do with Eddie. ❞

Maybe the witch will go find Lizzy instead, if he's really not interested.

ONE DAY, it's all he asks. one day without something going to shit. yeah, it's cool as fuck to see real-life magic when they're not in danger, he'll be the first to excitedly admit that. like his stories come to life, in the form of this guy.

who knew the mundanity of a sunday morning would become so sacred to him, someone who seems to thrive on spontaneity. a joint && a shitty movie working on some sketches would've been just fine, except kai is barging in with what must be something urgent.

" eddie asks, hand rubbing at his face in mild frustration as items are dumped all over the counter. he can only assume the worst given the urgency. the only upside here being the squeak heard from the squirrel standing on the other's shoulders, eliciting a brief smile && wave of his fingers, though that's short lived when his gaze is back on kai.

As far as Kai knows, the confession comes out of nowhere. Cause he – if he'd ever even thought for a second that Yeong felt the same way? He wouldn't have spent so gods damned long pining like a lovesick idiot.

It doesn't take too long for him to shake off the shock, though. One second he's blinking at the hunter, owlish, and the next he's got his hands fisted in Yeong's shirt and is pulling him in for a kiss. And it's way too messy because are you fucking kidding him – they're both idiots, really. But he can be pissed about it later. Right now he's actually kissing Yeong. Clumsily and with way too much teeth, sure, but like. Fuck. He's been wanting to do this for way too fucking long.

He's grabby too, pulling at the hunter's shirt cause apparently waiting this long when they could've been doing this the whole time means he's impatient. His hands slide under fabric to push it up, palms pressed against Yeong's skin cause he wants to feel him. And even if the witch kissed the other he's still – well, he's still him, so even as he pulls at Yeong's clothes like he's in charge ( he's so not ) he whines.

Kai pulls away juuust enough to mutter a pleading, breathy ❛ off ❜ as he gets caught with the shirt around Yeong's chest. He lets the hunter deal with it, hands moving back down to pull at his belt instead. Screw his own clothes he just wants Yeong's off, like, two minutes ago.

And he's already panting when he fully pulls away. Needs to catch his breath cause his heart's going a mile a minute and his head's all spaced out. Opening his eyes doesn't help cause, like, Hecate curse him Yeong's got Kai's lipstick smeared across his mouth. And ( no surprise here ) it's fucking hot. Especially cause now he's thinking about leaving lipstick marks in other places and it's definitely making him lose it a little a lot.
