King's Field IV: The Ancient City

Was doing this very on and off but I finally finished it. Out of the 4 in terms of vibes and music it clears the rest of the series (Although Shadow Tower still has the best vibes imo.) My only major gripe is that its the slowest in the series and while it works to soak in the atmosphere of the areas for gameplay it kinda drags it down a notch for me. Not my personal fave but I can at least see why people think this ones the best in the series.

Mother 1

I've been a Earthbound and Mother 3 fan for a long while, but like most people I haven't played Mother 1. Back then I was one of those people that go "Old thing? Ew gross....." for a lot of older games in that era. Now that I'm over that era of my tastes, I can comfortably say that this game rocks. It's very simple. Especially if you're used to the other games. And even with the 25th anniversary patch (which is what I played on btw) there's still some "of that era" stuff thats dated. But the game still has alot of that charm the series has. And with the patch having some qol changes (aka not needing to grind every time you get a new party member) is not a super long RPG.

Just a good ass game all around.

Phantasy Star IV: The End of the Millennium

What a way to finish up the series holy shit. As much as I like the first three games this one just kinda blows them out of the water. As much as it stings now that Phantasy Star is just a MMO series, at least the original series ended with a big bang.

Kingdom Grand Prix

Cool ass game with a interesting mix of genres that I would love to see a dev try to do something like this again with some touch ups. Shout out Honest John.

Touhou Tenkuushou ~ Hidden Star in Four Seasons

It's a strange feeling. It's not bad and I wanna like it more but the later half is honestly really annoying compared to a lot of the other games which might be due to the gimmick of the game. Which is fine but it can get kinda insane even on normal. I dunno. I just wasn't feeling this one. I dunno if its just burnout, the game itself, or me.

TouHou Makuka Sai ~ Fantastic Danmaku Festival

I'm not super big into Touhou 6 but regardless of that I thought the fan remake that's available on steam was kinda neat. It's not something that will really replace it as it's honestly feels really different despite mostly following the same beats. I think it's also weirdly both easier and harder than actual 6? Like the first half feels kinda easier to me in some areas but then the final 2 stages I feel like are more fair overall, but probably harder. But that's probably just my skill level talking. I will say though. I feel like someone in the dev team must really be a big Patchouli fan since in terms of pure damage shes probably the best character in my experience. Her charge shots do so much damage its honestly kinda nuts.

Phantasy Star III: Generations of Doom

Was interesting going into this knowing this was the one people disliked. It is honestly the most rough out of the three but I also think its the closest to being the best one out of the three. I can totally see why wouldn't really care for this game but the more I think about it the more I appreciate it. I honestly do like how different the vibe is for 3 and I heavily respect the vision the new team had for this one. If they were able to cook a bit more (or even waited to develop it on Saturn or even Dreamcast) this game would go even harder. Respectable game o7

Phantasy Star II: At the End of the Restoration

In a similar vein for 1 I tried playing this (and 3 as well) at a young age but instead of getting intimidated I just lost interest for how slow it was. Now fully playing it, if young me actually sat down and played more of the game I would of permanently turned into a RPG hater. I do wanna say that the games not bad. Far from it. Everything surrounding the game is good and even a step up from the first game. But the dungeons drag the game down so much as it just makes the game extremely exhausting to play. I guess its now part of the big game pile of "Games I like but don't like playing."

Kao the Kangaroo

You know normally I'm easily persuaded by media if its got a little dude in it. Regardless of quality. But despite Kao fitting that, not even he can save the fact the first games like a massive 5/10 maybe a 6 if I'm feeling really generous. Thankfully it does get better from here so Mr.Long Neck himself can be redeemed.

Elden Ring: Shadow of the Erdtree

I don't wanna write a long ass essay on the whole thing so I'll just give a tl;dr version of it with no real spoilers. Overall for the most part it's good. As someone who wasn't a massive fan of Elden Ring I think it's a general step up from the base game. However it ends on a really bad note with one of the worst final bosses in the game in my opinion.

Phantasy Star

Phantasy Star 1 was one of those games I tried playing when I was kid but I was so intimidated about the first person segments I dropped it immediately.

But as a grown man now and finally playing through the whole thing I've come to the conclusion that. It's ok. I mainly like it on a visual standpoint. Some of the way to progress through the game are pretty silly though.

Madou Monogatari 3

Game put me in a bit of a rollercoaster cause I had to reset at the end cause of my own fuck up. While annoyed with that the game threw probably the most annoying final bosses out of the three. But it was still a neat game though. Pic below goes hard.

Shadow hearts: From the new world

I feel like this game is another example of not listening to the common opinion of a piece of media and giving it a shot for yourself. Cause from what I saw the common opinion is that this game was bad. And finally finishing it I can say that's not the case at all. Does it have issues? Of course. Quite a number actually. Is it the weakest one out of the 4? Yes. But for its own merit the game is still pretty good and is very much worth playing. Johnny Garland will forever be burned into my brain.

Madou Monogatari 2

About the same kind of quality as 1 (Which is a pretty fun time for the most part) but it's really funny seeing the most recurring characters (Schezo and Draco) either die quickly and are never seen again (Schezo) or is only a basic enemy that has barely any interactions (Draco) But it's cool. It's got Carbuncle. What more can you ask for?
