"Alright. It's nice to meet you, Seto," he nods (smiles again, attempting friendliness.) There's awkwardness, but more than that, Eight feels the unbreachable distance between their mentalities (it's a sensation similar to getting your head pushed under cold water.) Seto seems oddly peaceful; there's no smell of death clinging to his skin, no visible scars tainting his complexion, no hostility or wariness -- there's a boy, one that possibly haven't fought a war before, and the realization that it's his first time meeting someone like this is distressing at best (painful at worst.)
Despite the slight cultural shock, he decides that he can work with this kind of warmth; it's unfamiliar, but he's always wanted to know something more than what his life offered him. Curiosity overwhelms ignorance, and he finds himself more interested than disappointed, even though he's sure that all of this could've gone much better. Sadly, just like the boy sitting across the table, he doesn't have much of an experience as far as dating goes -- he had a crush, once, and never did anything about it, choked the life out of unnecessary feelings that could've corrupted his focus.
But this isn't battlefield, and he doesn't need to overanalyze anything, doesn't need to resort to brutality and violence to deal with the simplest of daily routines. A small sigh escapes his lips when the other speaks again, but it's not one of exasperation -- more of discomfort, mostly because he has nothing to tell the other boy (or rather, nothing that he'd possibly want to hear.)
"Alright, well -- name's Eight. You know that. It's actually... not my real name, just a military codename, but I don't remember anything else," he hums, leaning on his elbow. "I'm a soldier of Suzaku, and a cadet of Class Zero of the Magic Academy Perystilium. I --" there's honestly not much else to say: the last thing he wants is to scare Seto away, after all. "I guess you could say my life was pretty straightforward up until now. And also, I don't know how a computer works," he adds after a moment, cracking a nervous smile. "The technology in my country was more.... magical, you know? Weird stuff."
He pauses for a beat, tipping his head to the side. "Your turn?" Truth be told, that's what he's more curious about -- having never even had an opportunity to go to a normal school, he's perplexed and fascinated with everything this world offers, no matter how seemingly insignificant.
▬▬ the sound of life. ;
He’d been uprooted, placed in the care of a new family — the word “care” being used loosely in this case — in a world ravaged by war. A far cry from what he was used to; already much too much for any one individual to handle. And now he was apparently engaged with no prior notification or request for his consent. Well, he had always liked the idea of marriage. Family was an important concept to him. Having a family of his own he wouldn’t have even considered until much later in life. Definitely not at sixteen. And to someone he had never even met?
That couldn’t possibly go well.
But he was determined to at least meet his husband-to-be. Which explained why he was here, shaking the man’s hand. Who knows? Maybe they’d get along. He certainly hoped. Not that the other necessarily looked the bad type, but considering the hot topics of conversation lately…
He’d almost gotten an introduction out, before his betrothed cut him short. He hadn’t expected something so straight-forward. It definitely felt awkward now; now that Seto could practically feel the heat radiating from his cheeks.
"Thanks?" More of a question rather than his intended expression of gratitude. Oops. Exactly what duties were those, again? “Oh, right. I’m Seto!” He nodded. "I promise to do the same, of course!" Said in what was probably a comically serious tone. The last thing he wanted was to be a disappointment, after all. He had every plan to be a good husband — forced into it or no. There was a slight pause (too long for him, seconds felt like lifetimes) before he blurted out the first thing that came to mind, in an attempt to keep the conversation going. "So…we should probably say a few things about ourselves. To get to know one another?" Because that wasn’t at all overused. He was doing great so far — he’d be lucky if Eight didn’t laugh in his face.
If this was what blind dates felt like he couldn’t possibly see the appeal.

He's not entirely sure how he feels about being called 'endearing' (that's not supposed to be very flattering to a guy, right?), but he takes the compliment, nevertheless, offering her a small, hesitant smile. "Thanks, I guess? Did you expect a monster?" It's a humorous thought, but he knows the feeling of concern about your family (siblings, in both cases) and he'd sure as hell want for his to get with someone good, even if the marriage was only a technicality.
"Hey, take your time. I don't wanna get you in trouble, or something," in retrospect, visiting during working hours was probably a pretty bad idea, but since he's already here, there's no point in cancelling. "Nah, you don't have to get me anything. I came to talk to you, not make you work for me," he adds in good humor, a little startled when she calls him her 'brother-in-law.'
... there's no denying the position, though -- and so, he doesn't show any surprise, a slow shake of his head following. "We're.. family now, right? Kinda. You can call me whatever you want." Eight isn't even his real name -- he doesn't even remember his real name, so in a way, other ways to address him might be preferable. And while it's strange to call people you've never met before family, she has a very calming aura about her -- something oddly melancholic hidden beneath words and gestures, real, unreal, curious (there's two kinds of people -- those who have seen death and those who haven't. She doesn't seem like the former, but the smell clings to her anyway.) "I'll wait for you at the table, alright?" And with that, he retreats, flopping down on the nearest chair; crimson gaze focused on the girl.
forever a stone, alone XD LOL

▬▬ the sound of life. ;
It feels a little underwhelming to call this an unusual situation: he comes from a world stained with war, sure, but the drastic measures taken to prevent it still cause him confusion. Not to mention, according to the information received, just like his country -- every single other one (just like all worlds, universes and timelines) also fell into despair, something he can't help feeling guilty about (it's not his fault, he knows -- but still.)
Despite the shock and initial negativity, as a soldier, he had learned to accept odd orders and all sorts of circumstances: whatever needs to be done in order to restore the peace will be carried out accordingly, no matter what. That's coincidentally also why he's here, in a small coffee shop located somewhere in the very center of Iunctum, extending his hand towards a boy who's supposed to be his new fiance (and, shit, he really needs to get used to the sound of that.)
"Hey, uh -- this is a super awkward way to meet, I know, but -- the name's Eight, and since we're stuck together, I promise to carry out all of the marriage duties accordingly. You can count on me," he nods in an attempt to reassure, lips curved in a small, (hopefully) friendly smile.

It's something to look forward, he thinks -- meeting the family of your fiance. Normally, these things are over and done with way before the engagement: given the unusual circumstances, though, it's no wonder he has no idea who his new spouse is related to and what to expect. Nervousness is a given, of course -- but he doesn't have a tendency to be avoidant, so as soon as he learns where his fiance's sister works, he decides to pay her a visit, if only for the sake of simple formalities and common courtesy.
The tea shop is a pleasant getaway from the busy life of Iunctum, small and surprisingly cozy. He's more of a coffee guy, himself, preferring to stay as sharp as possible at all times, but he can't deny the pleasant feeling the unique scent causes, immediately turning to the girl who had just spoken to him.
"Oh, I'm... I guess I'm looking for Ayano? I was supposed to meet her here around this time," and then, a realization: "... wait. It's you, right? I'm Eight. You knew I was going to come, I think."
forever a stone, alone XD LOL
Genuinely, when placed in this new world one was gifted with a fiance/e of sorts and well, it would have been rude of her as a big sister if she hadn’t met them. She was a bit shy, who was she to go into someone’s life like this when she hasn’t seen her siblings in years. Committing and thinking she had a choice in meeting them? She had no reason, she had no right and here she was, walking forward and wanting to meet the person who went by a number?
By any means, she couldn’t be rude and if she was instructed to leave— she understood. But how would she ever meet him, that was the problem. A laugh leaving from her lips on how dumb she was for not thinking about that, and a hand rubbing a cloth against the booth that she worked behind in order to make tea and such. She enjoyed the area from all the sorts of scents she would smell and the leaves she could crinkle in her hand, a bell ringing to signal that someone had came in.
Clapping her hands together, eyes closed as she greeted her new visitor. "Welcome, have you came to try our new herbal tea? I hear it soothes headaches, would you care for one?" Moving from behind and walking over to her new customer.
