Illusorywall’s Dark Souls 3 Challenge

So as I’ve mentioned before, I don’t have as much free time for testing Souls mechanics like I did in the past. Nonetheless, I’m still interested in chipping away at a few things here and there.

Something that could help me a lot is if I’d be able to crowd-source some testing ideas, in ways that are fun, to help get things started.

I’d love to know more about the exact behavior/rules for when you’re gifted with those extra charges of estus after killing some enemies. However, I’m not asking everyone to go out and try testing it themselves, because it appears to be messy and not a lot of progress is being made this way.

Instead, I have a particular “challenge” in mind that could potentially help us come up with better tests on how to figure it out.

The Challenge:

Create a new character (a brand new character, not an existing character moving up into NG+), and see what’s the earliest and fastest route you can come up with that gets you one of these charges.

See if you can get a lesser-mob to get you an estus charge, not just a really tough enemy.

If you do get an estus charge, immediately quit out and then log the in-game time of that character.

Describe the route to me as detailed as you can. Did you have to rest at a bonfire several times and fight multiple waves of mobs before getting the drop? Did you get it right away speedrunning to the area ASAP?

Inform me of your class and luck stat.

The reason I’m interested in tackling this mechanic this way is that because without knowing exactly how it works yet, it’s incredibly complicated to guess and control for all kinds of potential variables that might effect it.

In Dark Souls 1, before we figured out how the hidden humanity meter worked, it was nigh-impossible to figure out in the middle of an existing session, because you’d have no idea “where you were” in the point system. If you started a brand new character and were very careful to not kill any extraneous enemies and then carefully counted enemy kills up until you got your first humanity, then you’d actually have a chance at figuring out (which is how I figured it out).

That’s why I think trying to test this with an existing character is probably next-to-useless.  So the idea is, if someone can “speed run” their way to getting their first humanity charge in Dark Souls 3, then I’d like to find out if it can be replicated, if certain things prompt it sooner or delay it, etc.
