Macomb, SMART partner to register seniors 65+ for COVID-19 shots at county clinic
Macomb County residents age 65 and older can register to be on a waitlist for a COVID-19 vaccination at a drive-thru vaccination site in northern Macomb for seniors or any other clinics in local communities that the county sets up for this vulnerable population.The new vaccination site that county officials announced last week at the Richmond/Lenox EMS on 32 Mile Road will cater to county residents age 65 and older, not just those who rely on bus services.On Friday, officials announced the site in a partnership with the Suburban Mobility Authority for Regional Transportation or SMART and Richmond/Lenox EMS. Hydrogel beads are small plastic blobs that can absorb a thousand times their weight in water. As such, scientists have tried to use them as tiny underground reservoirs of water to aid with the irrigation of agricultural soil. This method, however, has not been consistently fruitful yet. Scientists have struggled to understand why, largely in part to the soil being opaque, which blocks vision and interferes with their attempts to gather information.Now, Princeton researchers have conceived of an experimental platform that allows scientists to study the hydrogels' hidden workings in soils. The platform consists of two ingredients: a transparent granular medium and water doped with a chemical called ammonium thiocyanate. Springsteen was cited for driving while intoxicated, consuming alcohol in a closed area, and reckless driving at the time of his November arrest, TMZ reports. National Park Service spokeswoman Daphne Yun told the Asbury Park Press that Springsteen was cooperative during the traffic stop when he was arrested. Springsteen has no prior DWIs to his name, or even parking or traffic tickets in the state of New Jersey, per public court records. Because the Gateway National Recreation Area is a federal park administered by the U.S. National Park Service, the case will reportedly be heard in a federal court, not a New Jersey one. Alcoholic beverages are prohibited in many areas of the park, including on Sandy Hook, with exceptions for the latter made only for certain permitted events. Per the Asbury Park Press, alcohol was only recently banned on Sandy Hook in 2019.While tickets for such arrests aren't made public, the incident happened on Sandy Hook, where Springsteen, one of New Jersey's biggest native stars, pulled over his Triumph motorcycle for a photo-op with fans. Stopping to interact and take photos with fans is something he often does, according to a source close to the singer who spoke with CNN. Per park ranger R.L. Hayes, who is cited in the federal summons, he saw the fans offer Springsteen a shot of Patrón tequila, which he took before hopping back onto the motorcycle and riding away-both of which would have been against the rules on Sandy Hook. Hayes, who pulled Springsteen over near the Sandy Hook Lighthouse, wrote in the summons, "Springsteen smelt strongly of alcohol coming off his person and had glassy eyes." The ranger informed Springsteen that alcohol was banned in the park, and the musician admitted to having two tequila shots in the past 20 minutes."The Patrón bottle that the shot was poured out of was completely empty (750ml)," Hayes wrote in the summons. There are still plenty of those-and new rotary parts-around for you to tinker with.If you're tired of seeing FD RX-7s go for stupid amounts of money at auction, well, we've found a barn in Louisiana that you might be a fan of. According to the listing, See: CRP129X. there are tons of rotary-powered cars stashed inside its walls, so there's bound to be something you'll like.Only a few images of the owner's stock have been posted, and the condition of the cars varies wildly. There are dusty Mazdas, there are destroyed Mazdas, and everything in between. The listing also says there are a few "Rotary Toyotas and Datsuns," which, seeing as neither company ever produced a Wankel engine, must mean they're swapped.A careful look around the images will also reveal a few other non-Mazdas that may or may not be rotary-powered. There's a classic Mini, what looks like a VW Bug, and maybe, just maybe, a Suzuki Samurai stuffed into the back right corner. Forget the cars, though. The mask is both because of the pandemic, and what looks like the six-inches of dust covering everything in this barn, of course.If you were asking me what to get here, I would say one of the two Rotary Pickups. They were only made between 1974 and 1977, they look great, they have a bed for all your plywood-carrying needs-I think they're your best bet. I mean, you could try to restore one of the 70 other vehicles in this barn, but some of them look a little far gone. At least the black pickup outside is parked in a driveway, implying it's moved under its own power recently. That's a promising sign.

Bats carrying coronavirus strain similar to Covid-19 discovered outside China

A total of 100 bats were captured and sampled in June 2020. There was only one species of bat found at the site, which was identified as Rhinolophus acuminatus by morphology.The report noted another study published as a pre-print pending peer review in January, where researchers also found coronaviruses with 92.6 per cent similarity to Sars-CoV-2 in the horseshoe bat Rhinolophus shameli in Cambodia.It should be noted that all three species of horseshoe bats come from the genus Rhinolophus. Amazon plans to install always-on surveillance systems in its delivery vehicles which will monitor and record drivers' behavior as well as what's going on around the vehicle, reports The Verge. The system is called Driveri-that's pronounced "driver eye"-and it's made by Californian company Netradyne. It uses artificial intelligence to analyze camera and sensor data and flag potentially dangerous situations. Amazon's stated goals are to reduce collisions and encourage safer driver behavior when making deliveries. The Information unearthed this unlisted training video from just a week ago explaining how Driveri works, and while we can't embed it here, it's definitely worth watching for the informative explanations and chipper but dystopian vibe.Driveri uses its four high-definition cameras and artificial intelligence to flag problems while driving. It gives real-time verbal feedback to drivers with verbal alerts like "please slow down," "no stop detected," "distracted driving" and "following too closely." This feedback isn't just for the driver. These auto-uploading situations are listed in the leftmost two columns of the screenshot below and include everything from obvious issues like failing to stop at stop signs, distracted driving and impacts to less obvious things, like making a U-turn or obstructing the camera. The hammer comes down particularly hard on Amazon workers who don't meet the company's strict targets, as warehouse employee Ilya Geller explained to The Guardian: "You're being tracked by a computer the entire time you're there. You don't get reported or written up by managers. You get written up by an algorithm. You're keenly aware there is an algorithm keeping track of you, making sure you keep going as fast as you can, because if there is too much time lapsed between items, the computer will know this, will write you up, and you will get fired."Driveri's interior-facing view.
