11/4 Journal
The readings for this week has me engaged right from the start because my mother is a special education teacher and I have been around as well as associated with individuals with disabilities. With all the technology being created and advancing so fast it is important to have the same perspective fro people with disabilities because not everyone has the same privileges with technology. Technology is always changing and individuals with disabilities find it challenging to comprehend all the changes technology has to offer. It can be hard for technology developers to keep in mind of everyone associating with their technology because they have to keep it savvy and accessible for everyone that may be using it. Through my own experiences I have realized that not many websites and technology is able for people with disabilities to adapt to. These actions limit the ability for people that do not have the same benefits as we do and things we use in every day life. It is very important that developers keep in mind that not everyone is the same. The need to incorporate items that benefit individuals with all kinds of disabilities. I found interesting and useful that  Things Every Designer Needs to Know about Accessibility incorporated information and examples on how to consider different disabilities to their developing. Some examples were different sizes of text and color on web pages. Not many people take into consideration of the small things that can create a big difference for people and make life simpler for them because we take small things for granted.    Accessibility Guidelines for UX Designers explained and navigated that accessibility enables all individuals to better understand and navigate the web as well as different technologies. It has become an important aspect that we take into counter the small things associated with online web pages that may be difficult for people with disabilities. People and developers need to be more aware and accepting of people that do not have the same benefits we do like individuals with disabilities. Incorporating this into every day life gives these individuals the access of being able to function and succeed.
Tumblr media
I used linguistic and visual as my writing styles because I could express what I was feeling and thinking while reading the readings and writing this journal entry. Writing helps me get my ideas down and using a visual shows what I am explaining. I chose this GIF because it shows bold text on the  computer screen and bright colors that could benefit an individual with a disabilities. I also like that this GIF says welcome to the future because I believe if people and developers incorporate these aspects and are more aware and accepting of people that do not have the same benefits we do like individuals with disabilities it will make them be able to function easier and give them a benefit that we take for granted.

Social media today and the internet create false belief in people. There is a quote out there that I know most people have heard “Do not believe everything you see on the internet.” These articles that we had to read for this week explain the “false/fake” in everyday life. In Sustaining Critical Literacies in the Digital Information Age: The Rhetoric of Sharing, Prosumerism, and Digital Algorithmic Surveillance is mostly about how social media consumed us in everyday life. This product social media has taken over our lives and consumed us within it. Social media is known as being a place to interact with other people and show services and good within it. This article opened my eyes by showing me that usually when I am talking about something I then open a social media app and it shows what I am interested in. This interaction states in the article that it comes in waves. The first wave is understanding the culture associated with it and the second wave is understanding the public and what is around. The third wave is referring back to the first wave. This is all shown when more people engage with social media making more data and more advertisement to consume the audience. Social media is associated in everyday life and it keeps consuming us within it.
The video with Danah Boyd is a researcher at Microsoft. Danah Boyd is a senior researcher at microsoft and founder of the researcher institute data and society.
Topic in this video that was discussed was “How media manipulators are responsible for mass shootings and other crises. She discusses how after the Shooting in EL Paso media manipulators may be responsible for these shootings. Digital media amplifies and spreads false information creating a false belief. False belief causes doubt and doubt causes to ask questions. Anyone in the world has the ability to learn a set of techniques and amplify in a hyper networking media ecosystem. Things/ Questions/ Ideas on search engines have been manipulated because people have been optimizing the search results. Most people believe what they see on the internet because it is on the internet this relates back to the quote I said in the first paragraph. Most ideas are amplified to create false belief and even if its not true it is made to be true so the audience believes it.
Overall, even if we do not want to face it social media and the internet has consumed us within it. False belief are always being created. Data can be used in the most beneficial ways but it can also be used in the most abusive ways possible. We always just have to be aware what is being seen and if it is true or false.
Tumblr media
For this journal post I used visual and linguistic for my two rhetorical strategies. I chose to use linguistic because it helps myself explain what my thoughts are through words and putting them down so others can see. I also used the visual rhetorical strategies to help explain my thought process while readings these readings for this week and help explain my journal. I used this GIF because I feel it explain and shows that false belief is being created and it is lying. When I was doing these readings for this week Pinocchio was the first idea that came to my head so that was the GIF I chose.

Professor conferences & Peer review sessions
Conferences and peer review sessions have never been my favorite to be honest. Meeting with a professor for a conference is more my style because I like to get a well-rounded idea of what I am doing well or not well within a paper from someone who is experienced for looking for certain things. I am not a fan of peer review sessions because I believe they do not benefit my writing. Students do not care when they are revising someone’s else’s work because it is not theirs and they just want the class period to be over so they can leave. In my opinion I believe that peer review sessions do not benefit anyone unless they are truly into it and know what they are looking for in someone else work.
From past experiences I prefer to do conferences more over peer review because I believe that it is more beneficial to myself and my writing. I like knowing that the professor knows what to look for and can critic me on what I am doing well and what I need to work on more. I feel more comfortable asking questions to someone that is trained to criticize writing rather than asking a student that does not really understand and just makes me more confused. From past experiences with peer review, it never benefited my writing in my opinion it only hurt my writing. Other students that I have worked with would mark things in my writing just to mark them to look like they were doing something during the class period, then I would change it and take it to the writing studio and more things would be wrong then needed to be. More things would be wrong then needed to be because there were things I didn’t need to change. Peer review sessions just make your writing confusing and not organized. If peer review sessions are taking place, I believe that they need to be taken more seriously.
Tumblr media
For this post I chose to use linguistic and visual because it helps express my thoughts while reflecting on my experience with professor conferences and peer review sessions. Writing helps me get my ideas down in a professional and organized way and using a visual helps to show others what I am explaining and feeling. I chose this GIF because it shows how I always feel when the professor says “we are having a peer review session day.”

The readings for this weeks post includes, What is Rhetorical about Digital Rhetoric? Perspectives and Definitions of Digital Rhetoric. These readings show the connection and the view of how people define digital rhetoric. While reading these articles it showed that no one could honestly give a clear and concise definition of what digital rhetoric was or how it evolved. It came to my attention that not having a clear definition was true because everyone has a different knowledge of what things are based off of their experiences in life and their writing style behind them. Digital rhetoric can be interrupt in many different ways and can be explored as well due to digital media and our perspective and approach behind it. In the article Justin Hodgson and Scot Barnett explain that culture also has a impact on digital rhetoric. With culture being involved with rhetoric it shows how broad this is and how different everyone can interpret it.  This article explained how during the first day at the symposium, it was shown toward the digital rhetoricians and the new methods of digital rhetoric. This then came to the conclusion that there was never a concise definition. Digital rhetoric can be explained in many ways depending on who is explaining it because everyone has their own background of digital rhetoric. Later on it explained that civic and culture was engaged and this was made it even more confusing but also shows that even it being broad it is very beneficial.
Overall, after reading these readings for this post it came to my knowledge that digital rhetoric will never have a clear definition due to it changing all the time. It also opened my eyes to show that digital rhetoric is beneficial because it is not concise is can be changed to your liking and experiences because it is broad and its always developing to the people around it. Digital rhetoric will never have a clear definition due to everyone own experiences and it developing overtime.
I used this GIF because I feel it explain how my emotions were while reading these readings. When I first read that there was no clear definition of digital rhetoric I was very confused but then it came to my attention that there will never be a concise definition because everyone's experiences are different and digital rhetoric is always changing and developing.

Chapter 9 in Writing in Knowledge Societies mainly focuses on the connection between the development of scientific knowledge and rhetoric and how they are explained and put into perspective. I always kind of knew that rhetoric was involved in the data behind science because I am an Athletic Training Major and ever since learning about rhetoric I start to notice it more. Rhetoric has been shown to help sciences persuade their theories in many ways. Advanced sciences use a way of rhetoric in persuading and presenting their information to a certain audience between the existence and rhetoric. It was shown that  all developing knowledge is in connection to rhetoric influence. This was also shown that it exists in the human perception as well. After reading this chapter it came to realization that rhetoric comes in many different styles. Rhetoric is not only found in English but it is found in other subjects like science and is very useful. For scientist rhetoric is always defined because they are always presenting information to prove a point to a certain audience. Information that also stood out to me in Chapter 9 in Writing in Knowledge Societies was that  relating metaphor to metonymy, metaphors connect two ideas from different areas, and then metonymy connects two ideas with a single area. After doing this reading for this week it put into perspective that rhetoric has many forms that can be soon in scholarly ways and it influences my writing strategies. Rhetoric is found in many styles and it is all around us everyday.
Tumblr media
I chose to use linguistic and visual because it helps express my thoughts while reading chapter 9. Writing helps me get my ideas down and using a visual helps to show others what I am explaining. I chose this GIF of a science experiment because it was the first thought that came to mind while doing the reading for this journal.

9/25 Journal
The readings that were assigned this week were informative and got straight to the point. In the first reading I found it to be very interesting that everyone has a different style of writing and finds what works for them. Writing is all around is in many ways and by different people that all have a different aspect of writing. All writing has a purpose whether we see it or not. Writing is found in many different aspects through pencil and paper or through technology. Writing in different style is all about preference. My style preference of writing in school would always be pencil and paper. I believe that seeing what your writing in front of you is more persuasive and you can acknowledge what you are writing. While I type my hands go faster than my brain and ideas come out. There are times when typing on a phone for example is except-able and then when writing your ideas down on paper should take place. On the other hand it is also about the environment around you and the space you are writing in. It is not all about the type of writing you are writing in. Writing is inspired by the experiences and people around us. People have different work environments where they can focus in. In the other reading just by the title it caught my eye of Women, Rhetoric, and Politics on Pintrest. I love using Pintrest it is where I find a lot of my creative ideas so i found it to be surprising that guys use it as well. Also in theory that would be stereotypical if I believed that Pintrest was only for girls. Yes we live in a society of stereotypes but that is all changing with the help of technology and social media but we are around it everyday and live in a society that is obsessed with it. Anyone can use social media to make them feel good about themselves but at the end of the day its not the real world its all behind a screen of just being called technology.
Tumblr media
I used linguistic and visual as my writing styles because I could express what I was feeling and thinking while reading the readings and writing this journal entry. Writing helps me get my ideas down and using a visual shows what I am explaining. I chose this GIF because it explains that we are all connected to technology in one way shape or form. It can mess with us or help achieve our goals. Its all around us in society today and were all adapting to it.

Journal 9/20
“The technical focus shifts attention away from social questions and portrays computers as something to learn rather than something to think about” (Noble). This quote stood out to me very strongly while reading the chapters of Multiplicities for a Digital Age for this weeks readings. It made you think deeply  of technology away from just being used in social life. After the readings for this week it really made you realize all the technology you use per day without even noticing. It also shows what technology really has to offer to make us succeed.
Later, in the chapters it touched on how technology can not only make you succeed but can also have a negative impact. Computer literacy and technology is very confusing in the ESU life of a student because some professors are all about using technology in the classroom and being involved but others are completely against technology because they believe it is a bad thing to have within the classroom because it is distracting. This is what the chapters of Multiplicities for a Digital Age are saying because it is not used correctly and the younger generation is being confused if technology is a good skill to have to help them succeed in the classroom or can make them fail at their career. Students and Professors must be educated on how to put their thoughts and life experiences into technology. ESU is slowly becoming a technology base campus with the use of D2l being used to hand it work. It will take time to really be an expert at technology and what it has to offer within the classroom because it is always changing and developing by different aspects and new generations using it.
Chapter 5 focuses around the tool and necessities for computer literacy. It is important to incorporate computer literacy to help students benefit from it because it is still an upcoming aspect that is being used more and more everyday. Starting computer literacy in the classroom will help students/professors become more familiar and help develop the use of technology as a good aspect to benefit ourselves and our career. Later in the chapter it keeps explaining the main points of becoming familiar with technology and enhancing it in a good way. Technology is always changing either in computer literacy or in everyday social life. Being up to date on new technology can be very beneficial in many different aspects of your life. Students and Professors need to be educated on the area of technology to stay on top of the benefits it has to offer.
Later, in Multiplicities for a Digital Age it shows that computer technology is becoming more in the educational area. Us as students need to keep using technology and be familiar with it to be successful in our careers because technology is only becoming more advanced and it is not going away. By learning the aspect of technology in an educational environment it can help you learn technological advancements, functional, critical, rhetorical literacy, understanding of different skills and tools of technology is beneficial. Yes, technology can be very beneficial but it also has its down falls as Multiplicities for a Digital Age states. In the educational environment there needs to be a full understanding on technology and computer literacy and certain requirements it must meet to be used in a successful way. Also, when using technology and computer literacy in the classroom it must be relevant to our generation and digital age.
Tumblr media
For this Journal entry I used linguistic and visual to help explain my understanding of the readings for this week that were assigned. By using linguistic and visual I can show what the readings were about by using a simple GIF of a plant growing repeatedly. I believe this GIF relates to the readings of  Multiplicities for a Digital Age by explaining that technology and computer literacy is always changing like growing compared to the GIF and is never the same like a plant. A plant never grows the same and technology is always changing for the better and using different aspects towards it.

After reading The Primary Care Clinic as Writing Space I was instantly intrigued by the article because of my background of medical knowledge with my major. Having this background made it easier for me to make connections upon my major and the TV show that came to my mind of Grey’s Anatomy. Not having any background information, I would have found it very difficult to comprehend this article. During this article I realized that note taking is all around us even when we do not realize we are doing it. In my major of Athletic Training and Grey’s Anatomy we are always prepared to take notes whether its SOAP notes, a rehabilitation plan, etc. There is always a pen and paper we can use to write something down just as in the TV show when the nurses are always walking around with charts. Small details in a patients history can be the biggest piece of information for a diagnosis. Note taking and small details can come in handy and change someones life. SOAP notes are used to easily communicate between healthcare professionals so there in no confusion and no wrong diagnosis or medicine/ treatment given.
According to the reading it stated that chronic illnesses are responsible for 70% of deaths in the United States and to attempt to limit the deaths related to chronic illness. This stood out to me because charting is a form of writing just like using a tablet, texting, pen and paper, or even sticky notes. In the article it explained that different writing pieces loses their meaning after being changed and misplaced like a sticky note after reading this I realized that this was a true statement after being changed it is never the same piece of writing it as when it was started.
After reading through this article I realized that there is a lot of reading and writing that goes on in the health care profession. All writing has to be clear and concise because it is being passed around and shared with more than one person to help a certain patient. Writing in this field can also be a hazard if it is not taken seriously. In a hospital doctors always have to be relaying on information from more than one source to help patients. I knew that in the health care profession that there was a lot of writing but never really realized how important it was. After the reading and thinking about how I related this article to my writing I realized that over all writing is always being changed and updated by people “bench” no mater what the setting is of the writing.
For my rhetorical strategies I used visual and linguistic because it was the rhetorical strategies that stood out to me while writing this response. During the article I realized that I had to use a Grey’s Anatomy GIF as my visual aspect because it was one of the first things that came to my mind while reading this article so I knew I had to incorporate that into this response. I also chose linguistic because it was the simplest way to get my point across in this response after reading  The Primary Care Clinic as Writing Space.

Journal 9/4
After reading Spaces for Writing along with the other article that showed the different types of multimedia i started to fully think about the way I write. I though about the ideas that run through my head and the emotions that I feel. The comic made me think deeply about my writing process. I usually start my process by brainstorming up it is usually messy.  One thing that intrigued me is that every writing piece starts off as a blank sheet of paper. This caught my eye because sometimes I struggle getting ideas down on blank paper. This comic made a lot of good points that agreed with and can use in the future it will just take me awhile to get use to it and actually get what I think about correctly on the paper. Depending on the topic of the writing I gain ideas and thoughts very easily but if it is something I am not interested in i struggle to find my words. I find interesting that you can create anything into your own way. In today's world writing is all around us in different media and can easily grab your attention or persuade you in a certain way. In this article it was shown that writing is all around us everywhere you go whether you notice it/ see it but it is always there. The author of Spaces for Writing shown this through the comic.
The author made this article very easy to understand the different aspects of ethos, logos, and pathos. These aspects are very important to understand because you are always trying to reach an audience whether its an email to a professor or an ad persuading people to buy something.
I chose this GIF because it is the universe circling continuously just like our brains do with ideas. Trying to find the write ideas and words to explain our thoughts. I believe this GIF relates to the theme of the article because we start with ideas circling around in our mind trying to find where to start and what to write first on the blank paper in front of you. Within this i used visual and linguistic because I was able to put down my thought and ideas for this post in an easy and expressible way that I did not have to struggle with finding words in my circling thoughts.

Hello, my name is Kimberly Williams, but I like to be called Kimmie! I am a Sophomore, majoring in Athletic Training. After I graduate, I hope I will be working with high school or collegiate athletes. I chose this major because in high school I cheered and played lacrosse and always admired what my Athletic Trainer did for her athletes. I am very excited to see where this major takes me and what East Stroudsburg University has in store for the next 3 years. In my free time I like to draw, play sports, or hangout with friends. I also enjoy country music as well. A fun fact about me is that I can do a standing back tuck!
