In a lot of ways I will never be perfect. I will and have hurt many people who didn’t deserve to be hurt, be selfish in order to take care of myself, and make mistakes that will cost me many potential life outcomes. If I’d learned to focus on my worth before beauty, perhaps I would have never become bulimic. I still struggle with how I perceive myself, and yesterday was one of those days where I just felt so uncomfortable and lost in my body. But instead of embracing these emotions, I tried to suppress them until I snapped, and completely broke down. To someone who has never had body dysmorphia or an eating disorder, I probably sound overdramatic and vain. And you’re probably right. But it’s hard when you look in the mirror and hate what you see. But I try, and I keep trying and reminding myself: your spine was made for standing tall. This game is a collaborative players-VS-the game shindig, where you have to make friends with the other players and exchange tokens in order to beat the principal, who is hell-bent on catching you for skipping class. “The Strength in Your Story”. Someone once asked me whether I identified myself as South African or Taiwanese and I responded that I really only identified myself as Kimothy. The same person asked me if I ever felt homesick for SA or Taiwan and after some thought, I responded, “Not anymore.” Over the past three years, I have learned to become so comfortable in my identity as Kimothy Wu that I feel that no matter where I physically go, I will always feel at home - because my home is me. My story empowers me. My biggest source of strength lies in my struggles.
