BATTOJUSTU: yasuko is adept in the use of new shadow style batto techniques; which revolve around the quick-drawing of a cursed-energy infused blade. her raw swordsmanship is not necessarily on the level of other grade 1 sorcerers, however her shikigami serve to bridge the gap and provide openings for her.

as most of her shikigami are rendered useless by creatures that cannot speak or do not understand game rules; she more frequently employs the use of her sword against lower grade curses that lack higher sentience.

SHIKIGAMI SUMMONING: like the majority of modern sorcerers descendent from the kamei clan; yasuko is a shikigami-user. she posses three regular shikigami which are at her disposal. however whereas most sorcerers may rely on benevolent shikigami, the kamei clan specializes specifically in the summoning of yokai and other malevolent spirits.

MEKURABE: mekurabe (staring contest) is a shikigami which can be utilized against sentient beings which understand its game rules. mekurabe manifests as a large skull formed by a conglomeration of smaller skulls. it utters a simple command which initiates a staring a contest with the victim. if the victim loses or refuses to participate mekurabe delivers a slashing blow. if the victim wins the staring contest, mekurabe disappears. mekurabe plays best of 5; after being bestedit vanishes and cannot be resummoned for a 24-hr period. the additional strength of mekurabe is the buff it grants to the summoner. when mekurabe's opponent is looking at it and not yasuko, she gains a fairly decent boost in movement speed. mekurabe is primarily used to create openings and distract an opponent.

OBARIYON: obariyon is a small, impish creature with pointed ears. its name is derived from a localized phrase meaning "give me a piggy back ride." as the name suggests, it is a simple-minded shikigami which desires the victim to give it a ride on its shoulders to a specific location. unfortunately for those who the obariyon meets, it is an incredibly heavy creature which gradually increases its mass. its primary use is to slow down an enemy or force it to move to a disadvantageous location.

GORYO: the goryo is a vengeful spirit; unique in that it is housed within the reflection of yasuko's blade. this shikigami has been present in yasuko's life since roughly the time of middle-school. its origins are unknown; but it is not unheard of for kamei clan sorcerers to 'bond' with a shikigami from a young age. the goryo acts as a mechanism to activate yasuko's unique cursed technique, total possesion. this technique is activated with a successful blow or direct physical contact when the goryo is 'active.' the primary purpose of the other two shikigami is to slow down or create openings for this technique.

CURSED TECHNIQUE, TOTAL POSSESION: this technique is a simple cursed technique, activated by direct physical contact with either yasuko or her blade. the goryo 'jumps' from yasuko's blade to posses the victim.

from there, the victim mimics the exact movements of yasuko. this can be a mechanism to otherwise 'seal' an opponent as well as a means to dispatch them through causing them to inflict damage to themselves. this technique is reliant on both the willpower of the caster and the victim. a victim with a stronger willpower, and relatively high intelligence, can resist the goryo. this can mean the goryo is relegated to only controlling one limb or is completely repulsed.

DOMAIN EXPANSION, OMAGATOKI: yasuko's incomplete domain is omagatoki (逢魔時, the hour of meeting evil spirits). it takes the form of a Edo-era walled city, cloaked in twilight. time is distorted within this domain, meaning several seconds can feel like a year to those within.

░ ORGANIZATIONS

「 THE UMEHARA CLAN 」 ; a clan of jujutsu sorcerers hailing from kanagawa. known for their use of a series of cursed techniques which draw upon abilities from an adjacent realm of spiritual impurity and horror. they are effectively defunct.

「 KAMAKURA HIGH 」 ; the chief center of jujutsu education in kanagawa. originally established years before the yokohama center. after the 1991 incident, it became the sole center of sorcerer education in the prefecture.

「 YOKOHAMA HIGH 」 ; intended to be a new center of jujutsu education in kanagawa it was effectively destroyed during the 1991 incident. the site of the institution was buried and deemed quarantined.

░ PEOPLE

「 UMEHARA HIROKA 」 ; the deceased patriarch of the umehara clan who led the 1991 coup against the yokohama sorcerers council. this failed uprising resulted in he and his lieutenants execution.

「 UMEHARA ISSHIN 」 ; a legendary heian era sorcerer who first developed the reflection projection cursed technique that rei has inherited. legend states that he was adept enough in this technique, that he could project himself through the reflection in his opponent's eyes - instantly blinding them.

░ ABILITIES

「 REFLECTION PRJOECTION 」 ; a cursed technique which allows the user to teleport through reflections of themselves. a typical example would be using a pool of water to project their hand behind an opponent or escaping a pursuer through the reflection in a mirror. still photographs and pre-recorded videos do not trigger this effect; however a live video ( such as a security camera ) does. legend states this technique was developed through observing "ghost" cursed spirits.

「 SMOKE MANIFESTATION 」 ; a cursed technique utilized by umehara hiroka. the user can alter the physical makeup of their body, turning into a black smoke - thus allowing them to evade certain physical attacks.

░ 「 the umehara clan 」

general background

the umehara clan carries with it a long lineage of jujutsu sorcerers. unlike the larger players within jujutsu society, the umehara are based in kanagawa prefecture. historically, the umehara were deeply involved with the kamakura shogunate and produced several legendary sorcerers during the heian era.

despite their importance; the umehara have always maintained a reputation of disdain among other sorcerers. pioneered by umehara isshin ( 925-981 AC ) they became adept at manipulating an adjacent spiritual plane of impurity; which harbored a cursed reflection of elements within our reality. in this realm of reflection, water would turn to blood, polished steel to rusted iron, silk to thorns & wire.

nevertheless, despite harboring techniques which disgusted more conservative sorcerers the umehara rose to prominence by producing technically skilled sorcerers. when the time came to construct a training facility, the umehara contribued significanty manpower and funding to the establishment of the kamakura curse technical college ( or kamakura high ).

the 1991 incident

under the leadership of umehara hiroka ( ascended; june, 1986 ) the umehara had continued on their trajectory of becoming the 'maverick' clan - attempting to eschew the limitations placed upon them by the conservative faction of sorcerers which ruled over the kanagawa area society. hiroka's cursed technique, that of the manipulation of smoke; able to turn his limbs in to a black smog, was potent in combat - unnerving the establishment sorcerers.

debates and minor clashes eventually came to a head in may of 1991. the umehara clan launched a coup, targeting the yokohama curse technical college ( which had succeded kamakura as the center of cursed education in kanagawa in the late 80s ). the battle was over by the following day, and all news of the coup was suppressed.

the heads of the umehara clan were summarily executed. rumors spread that the higher-ups in yokohama had long planned to turn on hiroka; word of which had prompted hiroka's rash decision. despite this, the umehara had earned the disdain of most of sorcerer society. the remaining members of the clan splintered, some returning to non-sorcerer society.

the center of sorcerer education in kanagawa shifted back to kamakura. the umehara were barred from admittance to the institution, until the arrival of umehara rei. her admittance was conditional, however, and placed her under significant scrutiny.
