i’m just thinking about how in Braiding Sweetgrass by Robin Wall Kimmerer (amazing book btw) she wrote about a piece of indigenous knowledge which was something along the lines of ‘if you ignore it, it goes away.’ the context for that was some plants, specifically sweetgrass in this case, increase in vitality if sustainably harvested as opposed to being left alone.

and i was just thinking about this because i learned about this study (link to abstract below) that explored the consequences of relying on generative text based AI (language learning models, aka LLMs) for essay writing. I’m sure the study is not perfect and it is only one, but they found evidence supporting neural underperformance in their AI using group.

its like the classic maxim, “use it or lose it.” or as my therapist likes to say, “power flows where your focus goes.” skills get better when you use them and degrade overtime if they are not used. we have know this for so long. but its not just skills, it can be relationships and connections, ideas, machines and buildings, living beings like plants and animals, etc…

things need attention to exist and grow. and i worry about what will get ignored

friend of mine was sleeping whilst another friend and i were talking about nonsense. at some point we were talking about how trains honked anyway in the no horn zone that we had both lived in at one point. either without waking up, or waking up so briefly as to not disturb her sleep, our sleeping friend turned over to face us and solemnly intoned "Trains are required by federal law to sound the horn three times at a grade crossing". then she was gone again. we shook her gently- no response, out cold. she didn't remember it in the morning.

being fat is so cool and awesome and sexy. also i lost like 30 lbs after being on T for two years without working out or anything. lost 30 lbs while also gaining a significant amount of muscle, which is much more dense than fat, so i had to have lost much more than 30 lbs in overall fat. i went down two sizes because of going on T. i am not as fat as i used to be but i am still chubby and i would say i identity as fat. gender dysphoria and internalized fatphobia where two sides of the same coin for me pre-transition. they worked together evilly to make me hate my body. today, i’ve been on T for over 3 years, i gained back about 10 lbs over the past year or two and i have never felt better in my body. still kinda fat and now really hairy and i’m literally so much happier than i ever was. that being said T treats different peoples bodies in really different ways, so it will make some people gain weight and some lose weight and some stay the same. either way love yourself. also fat people are literally so cool and hot, spread the word.
