Week 13 Digital Equity Blog Post Assignment
For this weeks blog assignment, we were to choose a presentation over Digital Equity and apply it to the learning environments within and outside the classroom. I chose the Speech given by the 2016 ISTE keynote speaker Ruha Benjamin, and her speech on “Incubate a Better World in the Minds & Hearts of Students”. Overall, her speech was speaking on how today’s society and day in age is more concerned about creating innovation with technology and making strives rather than using this to benefit humanity and make the world A happier place. I agree with the speaker in the claim she made about technology and empathy in today's modern age. I also believe that it can be applied directly in and out of the classroom in schools nationwide to better society and humanity as a whole. First of all, I believe what Ruha stated in that technology can create a more impactful result on children that reaches further than just their educations. Throughout the presentation Ruha states this, at one point she says that “our classrooms must become laboratories for social change”. She is stating that through the use of technology we need to empower future generations to learn how to make the world a better place. Not just benefit their educations and academic careers, but make them better humans overall.
Additionally, I also believe that this can be applied to outside the classroom, in an informal environment. Technology is all around the world we know today, not just in the classroom. If we teach children/students proper Digital Equity like Ruha describes, it should be practiced not just in a formal classroom environment, it should be practice all the time in their everyday lives’. She explains that Digital Equity can be taught in various ways and forms through technology, as she gives an example on how she becomes hooked on watching the famous Tv series “Star Treck”. This means that technology can be used in many forms/ways outside the classroom to teach students how to create a better social and overall better world to live in, while using Digital Equity. I used this presentation due to the fact that I really enjoyed the points and references that Ruha used throughout the entire speech. She explained Digital Equity very well and provided many in class and out of classroom examples.

Week 12 Blog Post Assignment
What practices and structures do schools use to support all students to develop digital literacy? In general, most schools use laptops or some sort of technology (Ipads, etc.) and try and teach all students Digital Literacy and what it means to practice correct digital literacy. Choose a school/district (local or on the internet, but you must cite sources if it is a digital find) and find out about their technology use policies and practices. For this instance I used a personal reference from my school (Wylie ISD) in Wylie, Texas. It was at Harrison Intermediate School in 5-6th grades, they provided Macbook laptops for every student in the school. Also, they had strict guidelines and taught us the dangers of being online and how to correctly use the internet and practice good digital literacy before we could freely use the Macbook’s.
Explore their website to find out if they have digital devices available to students in the classroom?  Do they have a 1:1 initiative? After exploring the Wylie ISD webpage, (https://www.wylieisd.net/) I was unable to find resources/pages where they directly speak about having digital resources. This may be because they do not provide this service anymore or just do not post about it. Also, it speaks about trying to provide every student with the tutoring or services any child may need, so I consider that a 1:1 initiative.
2. Liz Kolb discusses strategies to supporting digital equity in BYOD Classrooms.  She presents several approaches and tools to bridge the digital divide for students who have limited access to technology.  Review the strategies/tools offered by Kolb and choose one to discuss.  Describe how the tool could support students with limited technology access to create meaningful digital products.  How might you use the tool in a lesson?  What might students create using the tool? In BYOD, she discusses 4 strategies to support digital equality,Text Alerts, Moblogging, and lastly. Phone calling. Of all these, the Text Alerts seems to be the most efficient way to support digital equality. That every student can receive updates of what to do and how to do it, even when at home away from the classroom. This can ensure that every student can have the most out of their educational experience without being limited. Of these Text Alert tools, the personalizing aspect was the most effective as it was based on individuals and not groups. In a lesson plan, I can give students feedback and help them based on the guidance that the student needs. Using this tool, students are more likely to benefit and create more accurate and precise work with the personalizing tool.

Week 7 Blog Post
Topic: Don't ban social media - teach students how to be digital citizens
For this topic, the main standard for digital citizenship addressed is Digital etiquette, which is explained as "Rules and policies aren’t enough — we need to teach everyone about appropriate conduct online" This means that instead of taking children off of social media, we should point them in the right direction and show them how to use social media in a positive manner. Also, to support digital citizenship we should take time to instruct students on exactly how to conduct themselves correctly on the internet instead of just stripping social media away from them. Lastly, based on the reading I would add a section teaching the students how to properly use social media so that it doesn't become a problem.

Week 6 blog post
This week, we will be discussing the three instructional frameworks, TPACK, T3, and SAMR. We will be discussing the similarities of the three and how they similarly utilize technology into the everyday classroom. First, the most obvious and present similarity that the three share is that they both place technology in the main focus of the framework. They all want to efficiently and effectively utilize technology to enhance student’s learning experiences.  Another difference is that unlike the other two frameworks, the Triple E framework’s goal is to use technology to reach or achieve the lesson goal, unlike most other frameworks whose goal is to simply utilize technology during the lesson plan. While the other two use technology for their framework, TPACK asses the “knowledge required by teachers for technology integration in their teaching, while addressing the complex, multifaceted and situated nature of teacher knowledge”. Lastly, the SAMR model is unique in its own way as well, in a variety of ways. SAMR is utilized to try and mark progress within the classroom while making sure students integrate technology throughout the entirety of the process. Out of the three models that were listed and discussed, I feel as though the Triple E framework stuck with me more than the other two that were discussed for many reasons. First of all, Triple E utilizes technology to make sure that the student understands the lesson plan and meets the goals. It doesn’t make technology the focal point whereas it assists the students learning by using technology as an aid. This model will influence my lesson plan in several ways. It will make sure that I am not placing too much of a focus on technology, rather using it as a resource. Also, it helps students learn how to still use technology on an assignment for resources but still use many of their own thoughts and ideas to complete the assignment. For those reasons listed and more is why I feel as though the Triple E method will be the most beneficial method to use when constructing my lesson plan in the future weeks.

Week 3 Blog assignment
This week our assignment was to follow someone on Twitter (I have already owned an account for sometime now). My Twitter handle is @Kingdavis2344, I followed the author's page @ISTE. Also, I followed the same one as the account, ISTE chat. Overall, my experience on Twitter has been very fun, as you explore many aspects of the world through the app. Even though I have had Twitter before this assignment, I find that everyone would benefit in some aspect from having this app.
