Shaw was sitting out on a park bench, enjoying the first genuinely warm day of the year and the chance to be away from his newest TA.  He was merely admiring the sights until one particular woman, her legs going on for miles, strolled by with her cat.  Not his greatest moment, being caught staring, but she didn’t seem to mind.  “Merely, watching as you passed. No offense meant.”

Succubus on Campus

“Don’t worry, we’ll visit the Women of the Well tonight and sate both our hungers.” Satana spoke to the abnormally large black cat that walked alongside her as she took a stroll around the campus, taking in her new surroundings. She grinned as the feline weaved between her legs, purring happily in response. The succubus felt someone’ eyes on her and turned to face them, a smile dripping with seduction on her face. “Can I help you with something or did you just wish to stare, I truly don’t mind if the latter is the case.”

“You’re individual elements,” he stressed.  “Physically, you’re identical, but what I’m asking is, are all of you identical in personality?”  Shaw was sure that he was pushing his luck, that the girls would grow tired of his dare and clam up.  It made sense, he wasn’t their teacher and his curiosity was based on little more than than their appearance and his overall desire to know as much as possible about everything.  If they had looked like anyone else on campus, he probably wouldn’t have given them another thought.

“There’s no accusation,” he said in the face of the growing tension.  He raised his hands in false surrender and smiled lightly at them.  “I’m a busy man, Cuckoos, and honestly, without the dare I might never have approached you with this.” Although now he could not say the same.  He would have to ask Emma if she saw the resemblance.

“I have to admit that I find your philosophy curious and impractical.  At least for my own line of work.”  Shaw found that other people existed to be used or ruled over, but not ignored.  He made a mental note of Doom’s slip of the tongue and tucked it away in his understanding of the man.  “I had been meaning to seek you out before this, Emma speaks highly of you.  How did you meet?”

Victor’s question caught him off guard and he didn’t stop the chuckle that came forth. He gave Victor a true smile and shook his head. “It’s a habit I picked up on my way to the top. The more confident you are and the more articulate you are the less likely people are to speak against you.” He never would have made it this far if he hadn’t learned to create and play on people’s impressions of him. “I’m also aware it can be annoying, so I’ll turn it down.”

Victor raised an eyebrow, but at least he knew where the fine line of humour was with this man. “That is a cumbersome philosophy to put into practice. I find that working alone tends to lead to the top in a more efficient way.” Victor shrugged, “I don’t particularly ca– mind.” He stopped himself, knowing that his own honesty could be annoying as well.

Only one class then.  It could be far worse, and this meant she was away from Emma, professionally at least since he doubted Selene would hesitate to check in with her whenever the fancy struck her.  “Since you have the pleasure of being my assistant, I’ll be sure to get you the books you’ll need to read in order to understand the topics I’ve chosen to cover in the class.  Along with the syllabus and class roster.  I only assign papers, so I hope you have joined us with a few good red pens.” His mutant classes were the only classes Shaw actually cared about his students in.  He had been looking forward to having this one class to himself and express the superiority of mutants without Charles or Cohen.  Now he had other issues to worry about on that front.  “And yet, Selene, it’s not my White Queen whom I have to keep tabs on.” It would be an insult to them both to pretend she didn’t know he had had employees reporting on her.  They often disappeared, but it was the thought that counted.  “You say that as if you were ever truly welcome with us, Selene, and that is perhaps the greatest lie I’ve heard from you in some time.  This has nothing to do with you, an alien concept, I’m sure, but Emma is right.  You may go.”  He turned away from her towards Emma.

Shaw watched her spin the gun and play with it with a wary look. He didn't know her and he didn't trust her. Although the idea that she was such a good shot was intriguing. "Where did you learn a skill like that?" He had to nod. "How does one get their hand on something locked away in a safe in a brothel?"

“A job?” He pushed for more information, curious about this new woman. “Me? Somebody I used ta call a friend stole something from me. It’s in the town. I need it back. I can’t leave until I have it.”

Maria pulled out her gun, and wiped the dirt of her most valuable possession. A quick turn and spilled it back in to its spot on her hip. “I am the sharpest shooter  in miles. I’m hired to do jobs others ain’t willin’ to themselves.” She smiled and looked at the man. “Seems like you have a problem on your hands.”

Shaw let her move his fingers, up and across lengths of skin that seemed so familiar to him. He was tempted to move higher, wrap his hands around her body. But the idea she had been stabbed dragged his thoughts away. Shaw examined the skin and found it to be smooth and flawless. He ran his thumb over it and while it was perhaps not flat, he didn't understand what crazy thing she was suggesting. "Ya want me to what? Cut you?" He pulled out his knife, fueled by his desire for the next number, but he stopped.

“Townies are quick ta smile and even quicker ta shoot an outsider.” He went back to chewing on the dried meat strip. He watched her get settled in front of the flames. “There are other towns, ones more open ta newcomers. Or do ya have something in the area goin for ya.”

“Doubtful.” She took a deep breath. “This town…I don’t feel as if I could leave. I have a job to do.” Maria thought hard again as things didn’t make sense. Before registering the man’s existence again. “What’d ya here for?”

He raised an eyebrow at her statement. "What? Ya think ya can see Savage ghost gods?" He stepped forward and kneeled down between her legs and in front of the safe. He placed his gun on the floor and moved the dial to the first number. Once done, he looked up at her and dragged the tips of his fingers up her calf. "Yer next question?"

Shaw narrowed his eyes at her smile. He still wasn't comfortable with this. Shooting, fucking, that was reasonable. This? This was so new he was deeply uncomfortable. "Those things the Savages are talking about? The ghost people who walk between the real world and dreams? They think if ya can see em yer gifted. Now, what's the first number?"

Maria nodded before she released her hand from the handle of her gun and lifted both hands up. “Fair enough.” Hill lowered her hands to her sides. “Being alone is all I know.”

He just smiled at her nerve to ask for money. He followed her into the room and laid eyes on the safe. Her offer intrigued him and filled him with his own questions. "Ya've got a deal. What do ya want ta know?"

Shaw sat in front of the fire he had built for the night, chewing on a piece of dried meat. He seemed the picture of relaxation to anyone who couldn’t see the pistol in his boot. As the sound of footfall grew nearer he didn’t flinch, but twisted around to see the newcomer. “I haven’t got anything of value if you’re looking for easy pickings.”

Maria grabbed her gun as it sat in the holster as the man spoke. “I’m not trying to cause any trouble if that’s what you’re thinkin’. Just need some warmth.” Her boots hit the dirt as she got as close as she did.

"Sure thing, sweetheart. But I ain't payin' you enough ta ask fer ya ta swing yer hips fer me, no?" Under other circumstances he could see himself paying, could see himself holding her close after a night together. He preferred his women with fire and soul. He considered her offer. He /needed/ that safe. More than he would admit. But the combination would be better gained if she lived. "What do you want?"

He watched her push her hair back and he thought of her somewhere else. Twirling in front of her (a?) bed and smiling at him as she ran her hand through her hair. He blinked rapidly and pushed the mirage away. She was talking again. "That's right. Ya have it and I need it. Are ya gonna deny me that, darlin?"

Rather than infuriate him like it normally did, her backtalk made him smile. "Let me simplify it for ya. If ya make a move ta hurt me or just be an idjit I'll shoot ya." To prove his point he grabbed her by the arm and threw her towards the stairs. He pressed his gun to her back and pushed her forwards. "It's a shame that fool went and paid ya with it. And now I'm gonna need your safe."

Shaw walked confidently through the saloon as the patrons cowered in terror. Someone had shot the sheriff that morning along with the deputy and robbed the bank in a hail of bullets, leaving the town vulnerable. His hired hands were securing the room, shooting anyone who moved funny. Shaw stopped in front of the owner and smiled. “On yer feet. None of yer funny business.”

Someone had shot the sheriff that morning along with the deputy and robbed the bank in a hail of bullets, leaving the town vulnerable.
