Trump condemns hatred “on many sides” in bizarre statement on Charlottesville violence

After a day of violence and chaos at a white nationalist rally in Charlottesville, Virginia, President Donald Trump condemned hatred “on many sides” in a bizarre statement from Bedminster, New Jersey.

“We condemn in the strongest possible terms this egregious display of hatred, bigotry and violence on many sides, on many sides,” Trump in a press conference Saturday. “This hate and division must stop, and it must stop now.��

The statement — which did not mention the alt-right or white nationalists — received immediate backlash from those who felt the comments did not go far enough and that he’d drawn a false equivalency between the white nationalists protesting the removal of a Confederate statue and the counter-protesters. Where the white women at tho?

Black Lives Matter was started by three Black women. Black women are front & center in our marches.

Where are the white women in Charlottesville? We know y'all exist because 53% of you voted for Trump. The few women I’ve seen in snapshots are drastically outnumbered by the dudebros because their girlfriends are sitting at home passively letting Duncan go out here and act a fool.

I think it should be evident to everyone watching that white supremacy and toxic masculinity go hand in hand. These are the types of men who feel like they’re losing something, that something is being taken away. White men confident in their own worth and abilities don’t need to find scapegoats for their failures. They’re out here marching to take a country back from brown people who are working harder and will surpass them. They turn that same attitude toward their own women when the mood strikes because white men feel entitled to Everything.

Obviously there are white women in their “movement” but those same white women give their President a pass on misogyny. Those same white women subscribe to archaic notions of the man being the ruler or head of the household. Those white women are fine being subjugated by their men just as long as they get to look down on someone else - brown folks. But Becky & Susan aren’t out there doing the heavy lifting for white men the way Black women do for us.

Cherish the Black women in your lives. They fight for what they believe in. They’re always beside us – or out in front.

BREAKING NEWS (8.12.17): The driver during today’s attack has been identified as James Alex Fields, Jr, a 20-year old from Maumee, Ohio. Fields has been booked on “2nd Degree murder, malicious wounding and failure to stop in an accident that resulted in death” and is being held without bail.

This is the face of terrorism in America.

I ONLY included these Men for a reason. It is important to make sure folks understand how serious things are. If these White Men that rarely agree, can come together and call out White Supremacists, there is no reason anyone else can’t.

The Charlottesville, Virginia domestic terrorist who drove into the counter-protestors, killed a woman with his car, and wounded many others is 20 years old so if I hear any of you young white people implying that racism is gonna die with the old people, I’m gonna stare at you until you bow your head in shame. Own up to your racism.
