y’know for me it straight up doesn’t even occur to me to unfollow someone when they stop posting whatever it is i followed them for. unless the thing they’re posting about now is somehow actually actively upsetting to me i just accept it as a part of my life now. i’ll just scroll past it like i’m driving a car and dodging an obstacle on the road. and that part of the road is my daily commute and the thing stays on the road forever and i swerve around it every day for months instead of ever taking the initiative to get it removed. it just adds flavor i guess

I saw your tags on that post about the different endings of The Ninth Configuration, I think you're right about the Jesus parallel working either way because in either case Kane's dying for a cause/letting himself die. Apparently Blatty was really torn on which ending to go for because obviously suicide is a mortal sin in Catholicism (hence why he lays it on so thick with the "suicide vs giving up your life" argument). I think the "dying from biker wounds" ending still works well, it's maybe my preferred ending, although I can see how it could imply that Kane is sort of just "giving up" in allowing himself to die, whereas in the other ending he is actively contributing to his own end. Either way, was his death really as selfless as he suggests in his note to Cutshaw? Because death provides an outlet for him to escape the legal ramifications of killing a biker gang, as well as an escape from the guilt of being Killer Kane/an "easy" way to redeem himself. It's almost a lazy way out, even if death was probably the best ending for his character

Both endings have their strengths and weaknesses. I think the suicide-by-gang ending works great in light of the conversation between cutshaw and kane certainly! 'giving up his life' jumping on the grenade and so on. But again, I find I'm sorta either way still. I understand it is also an active choice to allow himself to die from his wounds but it feels less intentional to me. On the other hand, i hadn't really thought about his suicide as an addition to the theme of escape, that's interesting!

in my opinion, both endings are supposed to be in order to redeem kane and cutshaw. I can see how if the suicide ending can be interpreted as a cheap 'shocking' ending or even as you said a way to escape culpability (though both ways of ending his life could have been taken this way i suppose) that is a good reason to prefer the death-by-gang ending (martyrdom?)

ultimately, i thought that throughout the movie was hinting more at his death being at his own hand so to find out that it had been a sort of.... more 'natural' death at one point was surprising to me, but I think it works too in its own ways!
