My university is doing an incentive to help reduce climate change by pledging to do climate-friendly things, and then on the form, none of the options are disability accessible. Lol.
I can't shorten my showers to under 5 min.
I can't walk or bike to commute.
I can't drastically alter my diet.
If you're gonna do climate activism, please actually consider disabled people in your recommendations.
I can (and often do):
Stay up to date on climate news and actions.
Reuse containers and recycle.
Shop at thrift stores.
But also can we stop putting the burden of fixing the climate on individuals and not the government and corporations? Maybe? Perhaps?
I was saying to Emet earlier that one of the big things I was worried about with this fucking Kristi Noem thing was that she was trying to present this as "a rural thing"
Like "oh you city people just don't understand, this is just how it is in rural places"
And I really didn't want to see this just accepted by the news media, most of whom have never lived anywhere rural, as just "how we are"
Like, no, absolutely not, we don't just fucking shoot dogs bc they aren't good at being hunting dogs. Everybody I've ever personally known who hunts with dogs knows that a dog that is a bad hunting dog may be a great family pet. It's clear that people like that must exist - she's a person, after all - but it's not just How Things Are.
There are enough bad stereotypes about Rural People. We don't need more.
However, I have been relieved to see that a bunch of places covering this have had people on who grew up in rural places & who were pushing back on this hard, saying exactly that: no, this isn't normal.
"you shouldn't be antisemetic because you're legitimising Israel when you do" no you shouldn't be antisemetic because it hurts Jews who deserve to not be hurt, like any other human being. you should care about not being antisemetic because it hurts people, and that should be enough for you. why isn't it enough for you?
I'm so glad that y'all are so into Monkey Man and the badass hijra priestess army, but friendly reminder that hijra are NOT trans women. Hijra are their own distinct gender; trans women are women. India has both :)
I'm trying out a new brush for the text I add to these, let me know if it's harder to read than my usual way of doing things!

[ID copied from alt text: marker art of a bluejay with a shelled peanut in its mouth beside text reading "All food is good food now go forth and eat a little snack." The bluejay has its back to the viewer showing off the patterned feathers on its wings and tail, and looks over its shoulder at the viewer. The background is white and the artist's signature eads @ watercolourcritters. End ID.]
