"I've got plenty of one of these days I will go, adventures," Kira admitted with a slow shake of her head. "Not that I don't love my life in Kismet, I get to work a passion job which not many people can say." Her smile grew slowly as she thought of it, "Except you know, when the asshat kids in town spill fucking gasoline into the ocean." That thought wrinkled her nose as the words felt like disgust slipping from her tongue. "That is big time commitment, huh? That must be why I can't commit to a person." She joked with Remington, "I may need to get on board with your whole space love." @remingtonelliot
"Yeah? I would like totally go with you. That'd be fun. For like, yeah, a one day adventure," she nodded. As hesitant as Remi could be with most things in life, it didn't take much to convince her to do things or go places on a whim. Though she wasn't a natural traveler, there was a part of her that always hoped that each trip was her next chance at finally finding the place where she felt like she fit in the world. "I think it does say like a lot about you, but in a good way. Things keep trying to bring the ocean down and you're still out here doing everything to bring it back to life," she pointed out with a firm nod. "That's big time commitment." As far as Remi was concerned, that was entirely commendable. "Space is easier. It's like always there and never going to leave. Which, hey, maybe that's something to be said about me."

"No, I've never been," with a shake of her head. "It's on my list of places to go. Maybe we should plan a trip together," Kira suggested to Remington as they spoke of it. "We can add it to that one day list that keeps getting longer every year." She shook her head with the thought, knowing at some point she would need to start crossing them off her list. "I do love that about the planets, the same can not be said for the ocean." She admitted with a wrinkle of her nose with the thought. "She's broken my heart only about a hundred times," Kira exaggerated with a sigh, "all the years of studying and research into protecting the ocean and one heatwave or oil spill wipes it all out but I keep going back to her. Maybe that's something to be said about me," Kira laughed softly. Was it the heartache she loved? @remingtonelliot
"Ugh, it was really well done research too. It's like, man, I wish I could be out there with them doing it sometimes," Remi sighed wistfully. There had been a brief blip in her life where she'd been involved in scientific research and it was the job she missed more than any of the others she'd taken on over the years. "For sure, though. Nothing quite like the first time you look in a telescope and see what the universe has out there to offer," she grinned back with an emphatic nod. Space had been and likely always would be one of the most important things to Remi. "The Artic. That's a good one. Have you ever like been to it before? I never have." She'd been to lots of other places in the world, but there was still a lot out there that she'd just never had a chance to experience. "Break my heart? Never. A planet just would never. Planets are reliable and they never let you down. They're way better than people. Has the ocean ever broken yours?"

"Easy now, don't go getting cocky on me because, yes it absolutely is one of the things I love about you. One of many things." She grinned at her best friend, one that reached ear to ear. Kira nodded her head, "Honestly, from what you've told me, he gives me the ick." Her nose wrinkled with the thought of Theo. "I've never even met him but if I did, I bet I could get him to leave down with his tail tucked between his legs if Sawyer asked." Though it seemed like Theo was the one Sawyer wanted to be with. "I can bring the glitter if you make the signs. I think we could really sell Omar, no matter how mid he may be." She wasn't even that familiar with him either. "Now she's officially your sister," by marriage, anyhow, "just makes it that much more fun." Kira stated with a bright smile at Alli's next words. "You're my favorite part, too, don't you forget it." Kira wagged her finger in her direction of Alli, "That's what best friends are though. Like it doesn't matter what we are doing, just so long as we are together." She nudged her under the table with her foot. "So, what ever happened with that one guy?" @alliannahvaughn

"Ridiculous maybe, but last time I checked it was one of the many things that you loved about me." she smiled, her voice sing-song on the word loved. That was the perk of being best friends for as long as they had; not only did they just understand each other best, even in the off chance they pissed each other off they were over it by the next time they saw each other. That was just part of it; at least in Alli's eyes. "Girl." she drawled. "You and me both. I don't even know if I liked Omar. Not even sure it was real, but I'd pick seven of him before Theo." she exhaled. "It's not my business and I try not to get in the middle of it, but, if I did, I'd make signs and hang them all over her apartment singing Omar's praises." she laughed. "Or at least dogging Theo. Something feels off about him." a shrug. That was enough of that. The smile only returned when the mention of baby onesies and Marcel and Aarin returned into the conversation. "They're the best. I mean, you know Aarin's been my sister pretty much since her and Marcel started dating in high school, so it's so fun that it's official." She bit into another fry, though, was hit with a bit of an unpleasant feeling in her stomach. Taking the opportunity to finish that one, she sat back a little, trying to let it pass. "I have to say this is my favorite part too. Even if we're sitting on the beach, or in the shade scrolling through our phones being in your company is always nice." @kiraxwilder

Kira leaned into the kiss with a grin. Her arm wrapped naturally around Alliannah's waist, something they had been doing for ages. "You're ridiculous," she grinned at her, the words holding a fondness she didn't have for many. "But I will accept the title of badass," she said as Alliannah made her way to the other side of the table just in time for the fries to arrive. Plucking a fry from the plate, she groaned and not because the fries were delicious but because Sawyer was back with Theo. "Not Theo again," she rolled her eyes with the words. "I really wish she would have stayed with Omar. They were absolutely adorable together." Kira stated as she reached for another fry and her lips curled into a smile at the mention of Marcel and Aarin's wedding bliss. "Aarin and Marcel are so sweet it has to be criminal." Her head shook fondly with the words, "Aunti Alli, that has a great ring to it if you ask me. I'll bring the marine onesies as soon as the news drops." Kira grinned brightly at her, "But for me? I'm good. Lab has been a bit chaotic lately. Someone mislabeled samples and I spent three hours yesterday alone trying to figure everything out." She rolled her eyes once more, "So, thrilling, obviously," though her lips parted in laughter, "but this is my favorite part of life. Sitting here with you, it dulls the chaos up here," she tapped a finger to her temple. @alliannahvaughn
"And that my friend is why you're badass." Alli smiled, taking a step closer and tossing her arm around her friend's shoulder, playfully planting a kiss on the other's cheek as her own term of endearment. The two had been inseparable since what felt like birth; and while they'd only ever been friends, it wasn't unlike them to do things like plant a kiss on the other's cheek or express their love for each other in a way that rose the eyebrows of the people around them. Alli just usually was the instigator in most cases. "Seriously, Ki, that's awesome." she smiled, returning to her seat across the table just as the food arrived. She grabbed a fry before shoving the plate towards her friend, encouraging her to share the fries at the very least. "Marcel and Sawyer are great. I think Sawyer's back with that lame ass guy that she won't stop going back to." she rolled her eyes, clearly not fond of Theo or the drama that always seemed to surround him. "And Marcel and Aarin are in wedding bliss; I'm just waiting for the day that he tells me I'm going to be an auntie." she smiled. Alli didn't love kids, but something about the idea of spoiling her siblings' children sparked something inside of her. "How are you? What's new in the world of Kira Wilder and that beautiful brain of yours, hmm?" @kiraxwilder

"I read that one, too!" Kira said, mirroring a level of enthusiasm only Remington could understand. "Meteorite debris and Baltic fish is like our weird little cross-section of nerdy shit in one chaotic soup." She laughed, adjusting the focus slightly as she caught sight of Saturn's rings. "A girl never forgets their first planetary crush, huh?" She shot Remi a smirk with her words. "Hm," she hummed only a passing moment before her grin widened. "It's got to be the Artic, hands down." Kira said with a nod of her head, "Yeah, no, the Artic has that moody and misunderstood vibe to it and I can totally relate." Kira went on, "I'd have to say it's pure poetry in water form." She paused a moment, "So," she looked over at her friend, "What was the first planet to break your heart?" @remingtonelliot
"Maybe the only person, but at least there's two of us," she mused with a half shrug. It wasn't often she found people that could appreciate the complete fixation she'd always had on space, let alone someone that could mirror it with a similar level of passion about something. "They go hand in hand, honestly, which is like, always cool to study. I was reading a journal article about the impact of meteorite debris on fish populations in the Baltic sea the other day and it's just like. Wild to think about how far apart they are, but like, how much they still effect each other." Scooting over to make more room for Kira, Remi let her take over the telescope, an excitement bubbling in her chest to show off the views. "Saturn. It's always been Saturn. First planet I ever found in a telescope. A girl never forgets her first time. What's your favorite ocean?"

"Yeah," she said before taking a sip of her own water, "we can keep an eye on it. I'll come out and do daily tests, too." The sooner they caught a problem, the better. "Monitoring the water quality is going to be important over the next few days." She sighed, capping her water bottle. "Better to be safe now than cleaning up fish on the beach." It was a part of the job that Kira never enjoyed. "Honestly, they could have been dumping their drinks and food waste in the ocean," something as simple as that could alter the pH level, "kids urinating in the same area, especially if there were a lot," that made her nose wrinkle even if she knew it happened. @jeremyxlieberman
Hearing the younger woman's voice, Jeremy turned his head and looked to see Kira handing him some water. "Thanks." He said as he took it and opened it up for a drink and then sighed at her confirmation on what the kids were dumping. "Of course they were." He looked around for any sign of distress on the wildlife. "Seems like no harm yet to any of the fish, but soon some might start popping up. We'll have to put out a sign that says no swimming or fishing until further notice." Which not many people were out swimming right now, but fishing, they were definitely doing that. "Any idea what it could've been?" @kiraxwilder

"Celestial tantrums and all," she echoed with a soft voice. "I think you're the only person I know that would get that." Even if there were plenty of people in the world that had an appreciation for space and the ocean. "Space and the ocean have that in common," she stated, shifting to look at the telescope that Remi brought. Her words trailed off and her gaze focused on the planet that was visible through the telescope, "Both are full of things we don't fully understand," Kira stated, her smile growing, "Venus," she leaned back, "looks like it's going through a phase tonight, very crescent moon like," Kira's smile grew, "What's your favorite planet?" @remingtonelliot
"Celestial codependents. I kind of love that," she mused, letting the words tumble about in her mind for a moment before her eyes flashed back towards Kira. A blush started to creep into her cheeks, head bobbing gently. "I ah - you know, it's like, I like space and stuff, so um. Probably totally lots of other people too," she chuckled nervously, letting her attention shift back quickly to her telescope to mask the sudden anxiousness. "It is, though. Beautiful. A lot of people just look up and see how pretty the stars are, but if you really think about space...its the darkest, most beautiful thing that exists. Tantrums and all." Scooting over, Remi motioned at her telescope emphatically. "Here, it uh - zoomed it in to look at Venus. It's really good visibility today."

Kira laughed, the sounds quick and easy. "I could be your PR rep but by no means is what I am qualified to do, if you're willing to take that risk." She nodded her head, "You have to be careful with the metal ones but it's a step up from the straw dissolving into the drink." Even as someone who cared deeply about the ocean and the ocean's inhabitants, she couldn't stand the papery taste her drinks got after the straw dissolved. "I wouldn't worry about the socks," she joked with Paloma, "matching socks seem to be a luxury, if you ask me." Kira's lips curled into a grin, "Plus I'm not prepared but you only go on a boat once unprepared and you learn quick." Even if it were just an exaggeration, considering they currently were not on a boat. "Next time I can wear mis-match socks with you in solidarity if that helps." @paloma-flores
Paloma gave an exaggerated gasp. “God, that’s such a better headline than what I had in mind. Can you be my PR rep if this ever goes to trial? We’ll brand it—Strawgate 2025.” She leaned in, voice dropping like she was sharing a secret. “I had a metal straw once. Tried to sip a smoothie through it and nearly gave myself a concussion. No one talks about that.” She wagged a finger, playful. “You’re too prepared, by the way. It’s intimidating. I didn’t even remember to put on matching socks this morning.”

Kira let out a low laugh as she leaned back in the sand on her elbows. "Honestly? Fair," she glanced out at the waves rolling in. "The sun and moon are celestial codependents." She stated, shaking her head. "How rude of them, honestly." Kira found herself laughing once more. "You might be the only other person who actually gets this side of me," she teased, knowing that there were a few people out there that did as well. "It's kind of weirdly beautiful, though. This push and pull have been going on for literally forever and while it throws its tantrums, it still shows up again like clockwork. I mean good for her." @remingtonelliot
Plopped down in the sand with an oversized hoodie, Remi was perfectly content to sit out there as long as Kira wanted to. She had her telescope set up in front of her, looking occasionally into it before shifting back to scribble notes into one of her various notebooks that were spread out in front of her. "If you think about it, it kind of is throwing a tantrum," Remi mused, a playfulness pulling at her lips. It was rare that she ever felt completely at ease, but there on the beach with someone that she felt perfectly okay to be herself with, it was as close as she usually ever came to it. "I'd be pretty pissed off too if I had the sun and the moon tugging on me all the time like that."

"You kind of look like a drowned golden retriever right now. Kinda charming, kinda tragic." Kira said aloud, typically not having any sort of filter. It often got her in trouble. "This should save you from shivering into pneumonia," she half-joked, knowing it wasn't entirely cold enough for pneumonia shivers. "I didn't bring the good stuff." She joked once more, "I would have had I known I was going to get rained out here and have to wait out the downpour with a complete stranger." She offered her hand after handing off the tea, "I'm Kira." @sebastianxthomas
Sebastain was glad that he was able to miss crashing into someone. But it was bound to happen; the small covered area was the only area to stay safe from the downpour of rain. "I try my best," he grinned at her, glad he didn't run into her. If he had run into anyone, he wouldn't want it to be her. "Yes, you think I would have learned that by now, too?" he shook his head, years of hearing it from his sisters and visiting, but no, he thought he could deal with overcast without it raining. He shook himself off to get what water he could, then laughed, "Sure, I could use it, " knowing it was pretty cold now, with being wet. @kiraxwilder

"Did you see this article they wrote about the recent beach clean up?" She asked Alliannah, glancing up from the paper she was reading. "I was mentioned as the excellent lead that made sure the ecosystem of the marine life was protected as people cleaned up around the water and even venturing into the ocean." She grinned, "Just a little proud moment of mine." Kira set the paper down and turned her attention to her best friend, "How are Marcel and Sawyer? I haven't seen them since the wedding."

The thought weather wasn't particularly warm, Kira always felt a lot more at home when she was on the beach. Her jacket was wrapped around her, though it was a thinner one as she sat next to Remington on the beach. Her gaze was watching the waves, a smile tugging on the corner of her lips as she thought of something funny. At least, in her own head it was funny. "You know," Kira laughed softly, "with how much the waves are crashing, I'd be convinced that the ocean's throwing a tantrum again."

"Here," Kira handed Jeremy an extra bottle of water as the approached the lake. They both had received a call in the early morning hours for an emergency call. There were reports of kids illegally dumping into the lake and now there was going to be lots of paperwork for the two of them after they went through all their checks. "I just got the pH test back," she lifted it up, "there's some unusual acidity, which means the kids could have been dumping some sort of chemical." Kira sighed, one that was laced with frustration that she felt when people lacked respect for the environment.

Kira was halfway through organizing some field notes on her tablet, raising her brow as she looked over at her own iced coffee. It also had a half-collapsed paper straw, hanging on for dear life. "For the record there are metal, bamboo, silicone," she paused, "most places have evolved past the mush stage. I forgot my own straw today, though," something Kira often kept in her bag with her. "But I'll absolutely make sure your headline reads something like Charming Rebel Dies on Hill of Soggy Straw Justice." Kira grinned at her. @paloma-flores
who: paloma & OPEN (cap at 4) where: the coffee carousel
“Listen,” Paloma said, yanking the straw out of her iced espresso with a dramatic flourish, “I’m all for saving the turtles. Mother Gaia or whatever. However,” she held the limp paper straw up between two fingers like it personally offended her, “I’m getting real sick of these flaccid-ass paper straws. Couldn’t kill a turtle with this if you tried. Which I guess is the point, but the turtles aren’t the ones paying six dollars for a latte. You’d think they’d splurge on something that doesn’t dissolve in your mouth.”
She dropped the straw with a sigh, then turned toward the person at the next table. “You know what I miss? The reckless joy of a plastic straw and zero guilt. Simpler times.” She took a sip straight from the cup. “Anyway, if I go down for an environmental crime, tell everyone I was charming and misunderstood, would you?”

Kira looked up from where she was peeling off her soaked outer layer. Her dark curls were already starting to frizz with the growing humidity. "Barely dodged a wipeout there," she grinned at the stranger that had ran to the covered area, "Nice reflexes, I'll give you that." She glanced out at the sheet of rain. "You'd think I would have learned by now that overcast in Oregon really just means a shit ton of rain," Kira commented as she pulled a thermos from her pack. "Tea?" She offered it to them after taking a sip. @sebastianxthomas
Sebastain had a day off from work, and was out on the hiking trails enjoying what he thought was a bit of overcast but no rain. Thankfully, he did make it up the trail before the rain started to hit. He started off early, so it was pretty misty out during his hike up the trails, and he had a great backpack with all the gear he needed.
It was just his luck that as soon as he was heading down the trail, it started to pour. It was like they pressed the button, and the rain came down hard. "Shit!" he did have rain jacket on and was well covered but it was a lot of rain. Thankfully, there was a small break area near the top of the trailhead, and he hurried over to it, nearly running into someone who was also taking cover, but Sebastain moved in time so he didn't run into them. "Woo, glad we didn't crash," he laughed.
