Flight Highschool Chapter 59
And with this we are officially caught up on Flight Highschool!
Anyan hasn’t been updating much but whenever chapter 60 does come out I should be able to release it in a timely manner! Hopefully!
Tumblr media
Anyan’s comments: It's been a while since my last Flight High School post// This episode is about the aircraft that saw combat during the Falklands war, MiG-23, 27 and the reconnaissance MiG-25. The MiG-23, 27 sisters make a first appearance starting with today's episode 59. MiG-27's armament is a trimmed down automatic cannon that was used in a CIWS; it is therefore powerful but the recoil tended to damage the aircraft quite a bit. Landing lights, landing gears, avionics equipment, and even the cockpit instrumentations... and bursts exceeding 30 rounds could also cause cookoff.
MiG-23's sleepwalking story is about the 1989 Belgium MiG-23 crash. The Soviet pilot thought that the engine had shut down and bailed out of the aircraft; however, the engine was very much alive and the now unmanned aircraft flew over Poland, East Germany, and flew westward. The surprised USAF stationed in West Germany scrambled F-15s to intercept the aircraft, but found, to their surprise, an empty MiG with its pilot's seat ejected... and it finally ends up crashing in Belgium.
The last 4 panels are about the MiG-25 who got obsessed with taking photos. When U-2 is caught taking creepshots, she seems to have a long standing habit of repeating her cover story that she was merely interested in the weather.

even more
Anyan’s comments:
#1 If you take a look at some video shots of the A-10 firing its GAU-8 cannon, it looks as if she is smoking :D. #2 SR-71's airframe is constructed with titanium, and a significant portion of the MiG-31 is also fabricated using Titanium. Ironically, a lot of the titanium was covertly purchased from the Soviet Union at the time. #3,4 X-43 is a NASA experimental aircraft, which mounted a scramjet and could fly at airspeeds up to Mach 9.6.  The mission profile consists of being "launched" from BALL8 (B-52) with a Pegasus booster rocket motor. ADM-20 is a decoy drone that is also launched from the B-52, which could confuse enemy missiles.

Flight Highschool Chapter 57
Yo buddy, still alive?
Hey it’s been a while and I have received many messages asking for updates. Sorry for not responding, but don’t worry my translator was able to send me stuff some weeks ago so here we are!
Tumblr media
Anyan’s comments: This is chapter 57 after a very long hiatus. Other than the appearance of X-47B, all aircraft are British in this chapter. Taranis and the V-bombers make their first appearance. Unlike the Vulcan which fulfilled a "fully featured" bomber role with its special operations in the Falklands war, Victor served in the war as an aerial refueler, and the shtick is the portrayal of her cute inferiority complex... How do you like it? And it does seem like Vulcan is the most well known out of the V-bombers. Just like the Valiant, after the end of their useful lifespan, bombers tend to be adapted into aerial refuelers.

#1 An Iranian F-14 was seen escorting a Tu-95 on a bombing mission against IS in Iranian airspace. #2 A Tu-160 was seen encircling Europe while going on a bombing mission in Syria, causing political hubub. Finally the F-16's line is a reference to the time when a Turkish F-16 downed an Su-24. #3,4 The A-10's decommissioning has been pushed back because of the recent instability in the Middle East.

Anyan’s Notes:
Looks like it became a UAV special episode. GAIEC's Soar Dragon and Dassault's nEUROn make their first appearances
While I'd like to know more about China's UAV, there isn't a lot of information around and the sources seem a little suspect so making a character out of it seems pretty hard...

So it’s been a while
I have been putting this off for a bit but essentially my translator has been busy in Korea and is unable to really do any translating. If you have Korean experience and want to help just message me through tumblr. I can pretty much do everything else so all I need is translation help. I haven’t been looking for a new translator because of real life stuff, but I figure I better start now than not do anything. Sorry for the lack of communication and such.
Thanks,
Kirby

It's been a while since the last translation, still alive over there?
Sorry hacchan, my translator has been pretty busy with work among other things. Anyan hasn’t released a new chapter in a while either so we aren’t falling behind (6 chapters as of now), but Hacchan said he will try to pump some translations out soon. Hopefully we can catch up in a couple months but don’t expect anything soon.

Flight Highschool Chapter 53
HA YOU THOUGHT IT WAS OVER, WELL IT’S ONLY JUST BEGUN!
(it’s actually over now though.)
Anyans notes:
#1
The A-10 can be transported with the C-5. It is stored inside with the wings detached.
Tumblr media
#2
The simulated OPFOR for the F-14 and F/A-18 was sometimes done with the F-16N (the F-16C block 30 with the General Electric F110-GE-100 engine). During the mid 80s the nimble F-16 served effectively, though after the 90s the aircraft became quite decrepit and had to hand over the position back to the F-5.
#3 It’s not as much as back in the Cold War, and maybe it’s thanks to being the sister of the Mirage, the Rafale seems to be making a lot of revenue from the “old” third world country, hahaha
These Sea Harrier is famous for demonstrating its capabilities during the Falklands War against the Argentine Mirage III. The iconic Avro Vulcan bomber also was demonstrated, being continuously refueled from the British Isles to the Falklands to bomb Argentine runways.
#4 This time around Kawasaki Heavy Industries’ anti-submarine warfare aircraft P-1 was in the British airshow RIAT (unusual for a Japanese military aircraft, it is being made with foreign sales in mind. The ShinMaywa US-2 was also being discussed for foreign sales… though that was marketed more heavily on civilian tasks like life rescue and forest firefighting, so the direction seems a little different).
It also went to Djibouti for tropical climate testing, according to news.
I am curious about the pricing.

Flight Highschool Chapter 52
I am still alive guys I swear.
Anyans notes:
The original meaning of ‘Foo Fighter’ isn’t the name of a rock band but rather a name given to unidentified flying objects in the Pacific and the Atlantic by USAF fighters during WWII. There were quite a bit of reports of unidentified flying objects by allied pilots, and some of them were reported as some secret weapon of the Axis or some sort of floating fireball in the sky, or even that the objects chased aircraft around. (even today, there are conspiracy theories claiming that they are Haunebu IIs that the Nazis made… probably in half-jest) According to the pilot’s recollections, these UFOs would fly very fast, and emit light like Christmas tree lights. The fear of Foo Fighters were at one point so great that some pilots refused to take off.
The Battle of Los Angeles was an infamous UFO incident, in which unidentified aircraft allegedly appeared, to which the armed forces activated air raid alerts and caused a huge ruckus (it’s labelled as a “battle”, but there was no actual battle, though deaths were present). This incident caught the attention of ufologists as an urban legend, and was even made into a movie starring the present day LA as its setting where the Marines destroy some aliens, though I forget the name. In the newspaper article for the Battle of Los Angeles shows a picture of some objects in the sky seemingly emitting bright light, so you might think “maybe this really is aliens!?” but it’s actually the Los Angeles Times’ photo manipulation to make it more dramatic.
The F-117 and the B-2 doesn’t seem like aircraft at all to the mere everyman, so are sometimes mistaken for a spaceship or even an UFO quite often. The infamous Area 51 was also the test site for the F-117 and since it often took off at night in secrecy, it’s not surprising that people mistook them for UFOs.

Will we ever see WW2 Aircraft in the Flight Highschool Universe?
Well there were WW2 tanks as teachers/staff in Armored Highschool, but it’s up to the author, on the face book chapter we did see MiG-21 and some older planes like some posts.

Flight Highschool Chapter 51
Been pretty busy with work but here is 51, actually had the translations but no time.
Anyans notes:
#1 and 2 were pretty self-explanatory episodes…
#3 The Normandie-Niemen (Нормандия-Неман) Regiment was a WWII fighter squadron composed of French airmen. Interestingly, these French pilots used YaK-3 fighters extensively on the eastern front and made a significant contribution against Germany. They accrued 273 kills in the Soviet Union from March 1943 to May 1945, and were awarded the Order of the Red Banner by the Soviets and the Legion of Honor by the french. Their name and traditions are still carried on: they used the Mirage F-1 as their main aircraft for a while and moved on to Rafales in 2011. Their current name is Escardon de chasse 2/30 Normandie-Niemen (2/30 Fighter Squadron Normandy-Niemen). In 2007, Sarkozy and Putin gave a speech together commemorating this squadron in Moscow, demonstrating that this squadron sometimes bridges good relations between Russian and France.
#4 Omega Air Refueling Services, based in Texas, is an unusual private-sector corporation that engages in air-to-air refueling (they are not state owned nor are they affiliated with the military). They sometimes have contracts with the US Navy to refuel Navy aircraft, and once helped the refueling of Royal Australian Air Force planes as the KC-30(A330MRTT) was delayed. Omega Air owns KC-707s and a KC-10.

Flight Highschool Chapter 50
Here’s 50, we are pretty close to catching up, but the pace has been slow. 51 will be out next week, probably.
Anyan’s comments:
Flight high school episode 50! Please enjoy!
Europe’s A330MRTT will be part of the Republic of Korea Air Force family. The A330MRTT in 2012 at Spain sheared off its refueling boom accidentally, which is to say the least quite an exotic accident, lol
I’m sure you’ve heard of the news that the F-16D won over the F-35A in a simulated dogfight. Even though it’s been blown out of proportion thanks to the reporters looking for a scoop, the scenario was a close combat situation where the F-35’s long range capabilities and sensors had no use. It’s not really meaningful that the F-35 lost in this case. In addition, it was reported that the F-35A’s canopy was too small compared to the pilot’s helmet, and subsequently the pilot couldn’t move his head around easily. There seems to have been a large penalty...
GoPro “selfie videos taken from Russian and American aircraft have been spotted lately. The Russian demonstration team Swifts’ GoPro videos are a must-see.
This is an episode about the relation between the B-52 and the Tu-95. The Tu-95 Bear is developed from an unauthorized reverse-engineering of the B-29, and is an upgrade from the Tu-4.

Flight Highschool Chapter 49
Another one - dj khaled
Anyan’s comments:
Did you get a nice break? I’ve uploaded AHS episode 49.
I didn’t intend to do so but the Eurofighter has a huge presence!
The first episode was based on an article someone sent me a while back. Last year, the USAF determined that the F-35 cannot perform to its fullest when it was fueled with warm fuel that has been sitting in the sun for a while, so they painted the refueling trucks with reflective paint. I wonder if the F-35 will get a can’t-handle-hot-liquids trait. I am not sure if this is an F-35 problem, or if the F-35 is really sensitive to its engine. Please let me know if you know a lot about engines and fuel temperatues… ;_;
The Eurofighter was developed by Eurofighter GmbH, which was a collaboration between four companies. Since it was a huge project by England, Germany, Italy, and Spain, there was a lot of infighting.
A reappearance of the newcomer Mirage IV… It might be a nostalgic period for the Mirage IV when the nuclear arms race was at its peak.
I really like that idiom… but since the F-35(B) doesn’t really need a huge runway it’s kind of meh lol

Flight Highschool Chapter 48
Well, its been two months, but we are back! As I said last chapter, I was going to make a post that the series was stalled becuase Hacchan was busy, but looks like there will be no need for that. Hopefully you guys didn’t lose your patience. Also name change for no reason.
Anyan’s comments:
It’s the first appearance of France’s new strategic bomber Mirage IV. Somehow she appeared in the hanger earlier than the Mirage III… She will become the character that imbues the burning desire of France to have a nuclear payload delivery system; be on the lookout for her!
During the Gulf War, the A-10 was infamous for friendly fire. Since it was used to do CAS so close to allies there were many cases where friendlies were mistaken for enemy combatants. In the movies “Jarhead” and “Generation Kill” the marines would refer to the A-10 as marine-killing machines or blue-on-blue planes… haha. As you know the AV-8B “Harrier” is a VTOL aircraft used by the US Marines.
The last two were based on recent events considering I haven’t released any new episodes lately. Lightning's adoption seems to be going smoothly… but of course it isn’t without any hitches… the whole fuel temperature fiasco will be included in future episodes (gotta get those ideas down lol) Raptor seems to become a worried sister kind of archetype.
As you might know, recently 24 Rafales were sold to Egypt. It sounds like a trade deal with India might become a thing, as told by the Indians… I just hope that everything gets wrapped up ASAP. Pls no more of this push and pull business!
An upload after a long break… I’ll try to upload more often. Hopefully you’ve had a great break..! Have a great Children’s Day ^-^ [May 5th 2015]
