At the present time, technology is continually emerging and the usage of advanced devices, such as smart phones and televisions are increasing rapidly. People tend to walk around with their heads bent down and to stay indoors because Internet seems to provide all their needs. With a single click or tap, food can be delivered straight to home, favorite clothing can be easily purchased, and bills can be paid through phone. People have considered this phenomenon a norm in this generation. This is how humans live in the 21st century. With the unceasing rise of technology, people are immersed with its dominion that caused them to be dependent on the convenience brought by technology.

Even though technologies have carried disadvantages along with its convenience, it is better to make positive outcomes out of this reality and focus on the benefits we can get out of it.

Nelson Mandela has quoted that education is the most powerful weapon that can change the world due to the fact that it shapes the minds of the people as it provides the basic knowledge and information that could help them make decisions for the betterment of everyone. Seeing the system of education nowadays, it is evident that it has already been greatly affected by technology. Curriculums are posted online, assignments and other school works are submitted with the use of Internet, and grades are accessible through school websites. There are even courses you can take online without having to leave your house. Noticing how information and communication technology changed the approach in education can let people believe and witness that ICT has already made substantial and significant progress.

In the field of entertainment, today’s reality will prove how ICT is efficiently utilized. Decades, or even centuries ago, entertainment only come though attending plays, hiring jesters and visiting museums. However, in this time and age, entertainment can come through televisions and handheld smartphones and other mobile technologies. Watching the latest movies, even plays are hassle-free because different websites and applications, such as Netflix are becoming known and easily accessible to the public. Various television series that keeps people from being bored are displayed across different channels. Technology also provided means of communication so that fans can keep up or be continuously updated on their favorite celebrities.

In addition, ICT has not only come up with providing convenience of giving entertainment to people but also has brought more options of amusement. Social media is the primary example of this fact. Different kinds of social media have given people more choices on where to spend their free time. For instance, Facebook has equipped its users to keep up with their friends and families and also allowed them to play online games. Another is Buzzfeed, a type of news source social media where users can be updated by different happenings around the globe.

Furthermore, similar to social media, web logs or blogs has also been considered another option of entertainment brought by ICT. These blogs give discussions and information about a certain event or activity that appears like a diary entry or post. Blogs are proven to be of help to people who would like to try the same activity.

By its definition, electronic commerce or e-commerce will be impossible without the use of ICT. Conducting or engaging in online business can only be successful and achieved through technologies. Without ICT, transactions will not be done and e-commerce will not be called as such.

Lastly, ICT has been effective in the field of government through many ways. One of these ways is through disseminating information to the public. With the use of network channels and even social media, different announcements are made accessible to the common people. Promulgating the government’s plans with the nation will be efficient as well because they can both have the means to communicate with each other. Feedbacks will be transmitted and the other party could act upon it. In this way, the people’s right to be informed and their freedom of speech and opinion will be honored.

Surely, technology has equal benefits and downfalls. To the educated people, they must use their wisdom to create good things out of the circumstances nowadays. Therefore, I encourage everyone to let these technologies be more of a help than a hindrance because ICT has more to contribute to its users. Thus, don’t let a good thing to ruin anything by being ignorant of doing the right thing. Continue to be aware and spread awareness.
