It had always been one of the most difficult things for AJ to do — to keep his feelings for Kita at bay in order to save their friendship. He wouldn’t give up her in his life for anything else, but the chance to be something more again, maybe this time for eternity… it almost felt within reach when she made promises like that. Saying she would happily put up with him as long as he’d allow. For as long as he was living and breathing (and in the afterlife in all honesty), that was what he yearned for. Kita was, without a doubt, his other half. AJ’s eyes were soft and full of adoration as he gazed down at her, the corner of his mouth curling into a charming smile. “Trust me, I didn’t pay those girls any mind either. I might as well have had ‘Property of Nikita Devereaux’ on my uniform. And just so you know, you can’t make a promise like that unless you intend to keep it. Because I would let you put up with me forever if you wanted.”
Their conversations, as always had him on a rollercoaster — but in the best way. He was on a high; both laughter and love sprinkled in with their more serious, heartfelt moments. AJ had everything when with Kita; the complete package. And though the idea of her kicking some old lady’s ass just for him was beyond amusing, AJ couldn’t stop thinking about that promise. Did she mean it as just friends? That didn’t seem like a platonic pact. He tried his best to keep it in the back of his mind; to focus on how damn adorable she was even while making threats. That smile of hers took his breath away every time. “Of course you will, babe. You have always been the fiercest, strongest, most courageous woman I know. Fifty years or so isn’t going to change that.” ‘I just hope I’ll get to be by your side,’ he wanted to add.
“Teasing? Me? Why, I’d never do such a thing.” Not even AJ could say that with a straight face, his dimples popping as a crackle of laughter fell in suit. Of course, his mind went where it probably shouldn’t — back to many times that he had indeed teased her. In a way that he probably shouldn’t have on his mind while at someone else’s wedding. However, it certainly wasn’t one-sided. Kita and only Kita knew just how to rile him up in more ways than one. “Not teasing this time though,” AJ promised, his eyes searching Kita’s for any sign of waver. “Keep tempting me like that and I’m going to pull us off this dance floor and back to the car to test that theory.” Although a grin still teased at his lips, AJ was far from joking. If he thought Kita was serious, he wouldn’t hesitate one bit. After all, they’d have a lot of fun in a lot of places.
There wasn’t even an ounce of a doubt, but every now and again a little reassurance, AJ needed. Even when she wasn’t around, he strove to be the kind of man Kita could be proud of. The kind of man that she’d want to come home to someday. The kind of many that she would want to marry. It might have been weird and even a little desperate to fantasize about those kinds of things, since they weren’t even together, but that was AJ’s dream. Some yearned for a new career, or to travel far away, but not AJ. All he wanted was Kita — to have a future together, and a family. That beautiful grin was enough to knock AJ out of that little reverie, and he mirrored the expression as she nudged her nose with his. It would be so easy to lean in just half an inch to cover her mouth with his, but AJ settled for squeezing her hips in notice of the way they swayed more enticingly to the beat of the song.
AJ was desperately close to breaking. Every motion of her mesmerizing form in his embrace — each sweet smile and tease of her lower lip with her tongue — it tested him. He tried to behave, knowing it probably was not an appropriate venue to let his hands wander her body too much, but Kita was pushing him very close to throwing all caution away. Only she could make his blood pump so fast he could feel it and hear it in his ears. For a moment as their chests met he wondered if that was Kita’s heartbeat, or his. He couldn’t tell anymore, which, was kind of ironic; since she completed his heart. Succumbing, AJ told Kita the truth, about how he’d never forgotten their history together. Hearing that she reciprocated, brought another ray of hope. “I’m glad you didn’t forget it,” he murmured back tenderly, despite how on fire his body felt. The tension was bubbling over, his instincts betraying him with each reaction. Kita’s slender fingers in his hair drew a hum from AJ; reminding him of other times she’d clenched his hair. Sometimes lovingly and domestic. Others… hot and on the cusp of climax.
Mind already muddled with memories and their current proximity, any bit of control AJ had melted away at her words. How seductively they were spoken — the lust in her voice. The wantonness in her eyes. It was all too much. It was those fluttery kisses along his chiseled jawline though that caused him to snap. Her soft, delicious lips made AJ’s eyes flutter closed as he drank in her scent and basked in the familiar sensations. Emboldened, his hands wandered exactly where they had wanted to be since the song began, giving a teasing squeeze to her ass as his eyes opened. His palms would have lingered there if not for the other wedding guests dancing alongside them. Heavy lidded — a longing in his ocean stare, AJ’s gaze transfixed on Kita’s again. “If your plan was to make me show you here and now, it’s working.” AJ warned, a lazy smirk dancing on his lips. Gently he drew her face to his by the chin and closed the distance. Instead of kissing her though, AJ’s teeth lightly nipped at Kita’s lower lip, giving a slow, taunting suck. “Keep it up and I won’t be able to stop myself,” he practically growled against her mouth, then pressed a featherlight kiss to her throbbing lips. “Unless you’d rather get outta here.”
Tumblr media
Kita meant every word that fell from her lips, no matter how much they might’ve sounded like they dripped in honey, it didn’t make them any less true when it came to AJ. He was, and forever would be, the only person she’d ever love. She knew that, and she’d come to terms with that years ago, fully accepting the fact that her ex and best friend would be her soul mate from now until eternity. Was that cheesy? Over-rated? Unrealistic? To anyone else on the outside looking, it probably was, but Kita didn’t care in the slightest what anyone else thought. AJ had her heart wholly, and no one else had ever had had that hold over her, even the failed and quick attempts at relationships after him. No one stood a chance with Kita thanks to the detective. She was totally, hopelessly, and completely devoted to him...whether she’d planned on it or not. And his words didn’t help. “I almost made you a patch like that, but I didn’t want to seem too possessive.” She winked playfully, before her dark gaze grew more serious. “Austin James, I’d happily put up with you forever.”
These conversations of theirs meant everything to her. The way just talking with AJ could transport her to a completely different universe, all to themselves....it was the best thing in the world to her, and those compliments of his? They managed to only deepen the pink in her cheeks. “I swear A, I’m gonna keep you around just so I can prove you wrong about that. But thank you.” She chuckled, head shaking slightly in amusement.
Dark hues rolled at the teasing comment, the woman giving a playful tug to his hair in response. “That’s one of the biggest lies I’ve ever heard you tell.” She laughed, grinning at him. god did he know how to make her feel a million things at once, make her laugh all the while turning her on...it was insane yet not surprising he was still able to do both so flawlessly. When he searched her gaze, Kita held her eyes on his, showing she was just as serious about this as he might be. Leaning in, her lips brushed a featherlight kiss against the corner of his mouth as she spoke “Then I suppose I’m going to have to keep tempting you” she murmured, pulling back a little. Expression was flirty, but showing that if her tone was teasing...it was because she did want to tempt him to pull her back to his car. Was it bad that she wanted him, her ex? That she was absolutely craving him at this point? And not just on a physical level?
Kita had traveled the world, she’d had adventures in her life, she had her fair share of bar stories...but everything seemed to pale to the idea and imagery of a life with AJ. The same life she’d dreamed about all through high school, and even before that. When she’d just been a middle school kid who’d had a crush on her friend, and then actually started dating him. She still wanted that with him, whether that was foolish of her or not didn’t matter to her, she still found herself wondering some days what it would be like. Amazing, that was the best word to always describe it, amazing.
Moving her hips against AJ’s was the only thing keeping Kita from fully losing herself in his grip. Being this close to him, his hands low on her hips, the two of them shamelessly flirting and reminiscing about their past flings...it was all so intoxicating and exhilarating at the same time. She always fell more in love with him whenever they spent time together, it just wasn’t as evident and real as it was in the moment. She could feel her heart beating faster, her pulse racing, her gaze fading out everything and everyone except AJ. “How could I? Everything about you, and everything you do AJ is pretty damn unforgettable.” Kita returned softly, fingers slowly combing through his hair as her hips continued to shamelessly grind against AJ’s hips at this point.
She was almost shaking as she kissed along his jaw, so badly wanting to finally kiss him on the lips after all these years. Kita was dying to, she hadn’t ever hungered for someone like she did for him. But in that moment, she knew exactly what everyone meant. A soft moan escaped the woman’s lips when AJ’s lips grabbed her ass, heart skipping a beat at the direction in which this dance had turned. Wide mocha eyes met ocean colored ones, her own soft smirk tugging her lips to mirror his at AJ’s words. “Possibly...” Her pulse quickened as he moved her head, stomach dropping and twisting at the suck to her lip as another moan escaped her. oh god she was in trouble. “And what’s wrong with that?” Kita returned, this time it was her turn  to growl lowly, hot breath against his lips. “god please let’s get out of here.” She managed, before she pressed a quick and searing kiss to his lips. That featherlight kiss wouldn’t be enough to get her through the door after over a decade.

Their relationship was so complicated, and yet, not complicated at all. Any outsider would have thought they had never broken up in high school. That they were still just in love as they were the day they started dating. On AJ’s end, that was true. Actually, he was even more in love with Kita. Every damn day that feeling grew stronger and stronger, even now that they were ‘just friends’. He knew that he could never be just friends with Kita. AJ didn’t want to lose her in his life though, so he tried his best to adapt. Nights like this, when it felt like just the two of them in the room, made it really difficult. They had been through everything together, and AJ had no doubt in his mind that Kita was his soulmate. Even though he wasn’t sure it counted if she didn’t feel the same way.
“I sincerely doubt they were that disappointed,” AJ retorted, his lips in a playful smile as he chuckled. “I had to deal with all the other players getting distracted by you in the stands. They’d always say things like ‘Damn, James. How did you land someone like her?’ And I honestly didn’t have an answer for them.” There was a wistfulness in his tone, blue hues sincere as they met her piercing hazel. “Still don’t, actually. I guess I was just lucky. And of course it’s mutual. I’m surprised you put up with me for so long.” AJ relinquished a teasing laugh, hoping it covered the bittersweet pang in his chest. He wished that were still the case. Because no matter how many times he had tried to move on, Kita always had his heart, wholly. No one else stood a chance.
AJ adored how they could talk about the silliest things, or even serious ones, and every single conversation kept him fully engrossed. A mental image of an elderly Kita slapping other nursing home ladies made him laugh a little too hard. “Okay, I might pay to see that. Even though there wouldn’t be a contest.” There wasn’t now, either. If only she knew how crazy she was driving him by talking about the heated moments of their past. AJ knew his grip had tightened ever-so-slightly, as if he held her a little closer, Kita might not be able to slip away. It was Kita’s remark in that sultry, breathy whisper in his ear that encouraged AJ to be a little bolder — his eyes squeezing shut as he drank in the moment. Her perfume; as alluring and addictive as she was, drew a sigh from the blonde. “I hope you aren’t just being coy, Miss Devereaux. Because this spot? On my lap? It’s still reserved for you.”
Kita had been all of AJ’s firsts. His first crush, his first kiss. First love — his first time. Even if they were no longer an item, he wouldn’t trade that for the world. All of those experiences had been life-changing, because they were with Kita. So it meant everything to hear that he could never fail her. Though he’d said it jokingly, AJ took his devotion to her seriously. They had been there for each other through the best times, and the worst. They were tethered in a way that was unbreakable. “It’s still good to hear though. Your opinion is really all that matters.” Though AJ’s sweet sentiments were all true, he was becoming distracted by their closeness, and his desire to close that space. AJ yearned to feel her lips again; to taste them on his. Each time her body melded a little more against his, AJ tried to stifle his approval. Unfortunately, a few growls and groans still escaped.
This was dangerous — in a different kind of way. At work, AJ could focus on the logical. There was always a way to solve the problem. He followed protocol. With Kita though, his heart was on the line. And that was terrifying. As she flirted back so easily, her form molding to his and she encouraged him to toss his gentlemanly ways out the window, AJ could barely restrain. Her slender fingers in his hair teased AJ; he’d always loved that sensation and practically melted into her touch. He smirked as another hum of approval teemed from his throat, his digits teasing Kita’s spine before setting just an inch from her curvy backside. “You are not just good enough to remember,” AJ murmured, his voice throaty as he dipped his head to rest it atop hers. “You’ve always been so damn amazing that I’ve never been able to get you out of my head. And that is why it’s dangerous.”
Blue eyes sparkled as he drew back slightly, letting his gaze lock onto hers again. “When I said I was up for anything,” AJ continued assertively, swaying his hips with hers to the beat, his grip cinching the material of her dress. “I meant anything.” There was no denying the suggestiveness in his tone. “We used to have a lot of fun when we celebrated before.”
Tumblr media
She was sure if their friends saw them like this—insanely close, no space between them, getting a little more handsy than ‘just friends’ should—they’d wonder what was going on between them. Just friends surely didn’t look at each other like they did, just friends didn’t flirt, both physically and verbally, like they were flirting. None of what they did was in the realm of platonic, at a good many times they rarely touched platonic anymore. But Kita wouldn’t change a thing about their dynamic, it was what kept her sane despite the platonic box they attempted to put themselves in. He was the one person she’d fallen in love with, and would ever fall in love with. If there was such a thing as soulmates, there was no doubt in her mind that AJ was hers. Whether or not he felt remotely the same anymore, Kita knew she could never move on from him.
“Are you kidding? All those teenaged high school girl heart were crushed when they figured out I had a hold on you. And those boys? Never even noticed they were on the field when you were there.” She hummed playfully, but meant what she said. His words made her think for a minute, gaze searching his as she wondered if she should say what she was thinking. Should she? Would it be too much? “I’d put up with you, happily, for as long as you’d let me, A.” Longer if they’d stayed together, there was a reason she couldn’t end their friendship even after they’d broken up. Kita wouldn’t be able to take it, losing him from her life. He was too important to her, had too big of a role in her life to fill with anyone else. He’d put himself in an irreplaceable position, and she’d willingly let him.
But her serious expression quickly lightened at his response to her claim, Kita grinning as she shrugged. “Well I do like to think that even when I’m older I’ll be able to kick ass, especially another old woman’s.” She teased, though his words meant a lot to her. Especially since he didn’t have any competition in her eyes either, never had and never would. His grip on her, keep her body close to his, was intoxicating at this point, and if she didn’t fully no she was sober, Kita would doubt it completely. He’d always had a hold on her in every way possible, but tonight? With how close they were to each other? That hold edged into the physical spectrum, making it increasingly hard to keep her feelings and emotions in check. She wanted to show him just what he was doing to her. She swore that her mind had made up what Kita just heard him say…but her rapidly beating heart told her otherwise. “And I hope you aren’t teasing me right now, Mister James. Because I’m very tempted to utilise that reservation on your lap, as soon as possible.” It’d been far too long, in her opinion.
When most people remembered their firsts, often times they weren’t looked back on fondly. But with Kita and AJ? Kita loved remembering them. They’d been special, because they’d been with someone she adored and loved inexplicably. None of those times had been rushed, or forced, or done out of anything beyond love and lust for each other. It was another thing that she felt kept them bonded, that those first intimate moments they’d experienced had been with each other. His words made her smile, gaze dipping a little before dragging back up to land on AJ’s hypnotic blue eyes. “C’mon, like there was ever any doubt? But that is sweet…that you think my opinion is all that matters.” Kita grinned brightly, playfully bumping her nose with his. Those groans and sounds that fell from his lips only encouraged and spurred Kita’s hip movements on more seductively. She’d missed being the reason she heard him make those sounds, the ones that made her putty in his hands.
In the courtroom, Kita could hide her emotions fairly well, only showcase the ones that would win over a jury. But when it came to this? This…game they seemed to be playing with each other, teasing back and forth, hands finding their place just beyond where they seemed to want to actually be…it was killing her. To be this close and not taste him, Kita craving AJ in the best possible way. Her heart fluttered as his hands slid a little lower, Kita wanting him to just move the rest of the distance. That voice of his, and what he said made an electric chill shoot up her spine. “The feeling is insanely mutual, detective. I’ve never been able to get you out of my head either, especially everything we got up to together.” She returned, eyes alight when he met her gaze again. Were hearts supposed to beat that fast?
Her fingers gripped tufts of his hair as she listened to him, Kita’s tongue slipping out to slowly run over her lower lip. Could he hear the way her heart was thundering inside her chest? “Anything, hmm?” She purred gravelly, her hips pressing against his a little more as they moved. “Oh I remember very vividly…” Boldly, yet slowly, she pressed featherlight kisses along his jaw. “And because I remember them so vividly, I’m tempted to start those celebration ideas a little early.”

AJ’s day had been grueling, to say the least. A new case was waiting on his desk as soon as he entered the station that morning. It was a cold one, that was now being reopened, and the file on it was so thick he’d yet to even finish reading up on all of the paperwork. That was with skipping lunch. If nothing else, AJ needed a break to keep his eyes from crossing and ventured to the break room to fuel up on a refill of coffee. That’s when he heard a volley of greetings teeming from the bullpen, and curiously, AJ leaned against the door frame to see who had everyone smiling and renewed with energy. He should have known without even seeing her, but Kita coming his way brought about a surge of joy.
Blue eyes landed on her, a mischievous glint in them as he sipped at his hot coffee — one side of his smile curved up to reveal a cheek dimple. Even in a simple, sophisticated top, Kita managed to look like a model who had just come off the runway. He really, really tried not to gawk. “Aren’t you a sight for sore eyes.” AJ’s greeting was warm, and though he took a brief glance at the bag in hand, he was much more excited about seeing Kita. However, food was always a nice bonus. “You know I’m always hungry,” AJ teased as his free arm came around Kita’s shoulder to wrap her in a hug as best he could. “But I didn’t get lunch today, so I’m hungrier than usual. It’s like you read my mind.”
He could feel eyes on them, but could care less. In a room full of people, he only saw her. “You wanna dine in the courtyard? It’s pretty nice out, and we’ll have it to ourselves this time of day. So long as you don’t mind a few birds begging you for food.” His arm remained in place, draped over her shoulder casually. Or his attempt to be casual. “Of course there’s my office or the breakroom, if you’d prefer. I definitely wanna hear what you can tell me about your new case and how you’re gonna kick ass again.”
Tumblr media
Kita did her best to put on her ‘lawyer façade’ that she used in court; show only the emotions and reactions you intend to show. Because in court, any sign of weakness or faltering to the lawyers she went up against was like the smell of blood in the water to sharks; they knew they could take the upper hand in an instant. Why did it apply right now? Well, that had to do with the fact that she was trying not to go full on heart eyes whenever she saw AJ. Their near intense flirting at the wedding hadn’t been forgotten, and the sparks that she’d felt the entire night could still be felt when her dark hues landed on that look on his face. god could he make her feel like the only girl in the world.
His greeting made her smirk, Kita’s shoulders lifting in a shrug. “Not sure if you’re talking about the bag of food or me, but either way I’ll take it.” She teased playfully, yet she couldn’t help imagine there might be another meaning behind it…though at this point, there wasn’t, right? A laugh escaped her as he spoke again, dark hues rolling to avoid an innuendo from falling from her lips about his infamous hunger. “Oh believe, I know better than anyone…remember our school lunches? I always asked my mom to pack extra food because I wasn’t ever sure if you’d have enough in your own lunch.” She admitted fondly, leaning into him and letting her free arm wrap around his torso to hug him back. “Maybe those telepathic skills of ours haven’t faded, hmm?”
The offer he made caused her to nod quickly, always happy to steal some alone time with AJ whenever possible. Even if it always felt like it was just them even when surrounded by other people. “That sounds great in my opinion. Eh it’ll remind me of my brothers’ dogs when I visit them, always begging for my food like they’re never fed.” Kita chuckled, still leaning into him slightly despite the fact that they’d probably passed the ‘platonic closeness’ time for being so close casually. She just couldn’t tear herself away. “Wherever you feel like I’ll be able to steal you away for a bit the best....oh you have way too much faith in me. In all honesty, this new one’s making me question if Batman’s tactics are still an option or not.” She joked playfully, a joking grin on her lips.

austinjamcs:
So many times AJ flashed back to those memories in high school. It felt longer ago than it actually was, and yet, not at all. It helped that he and Kita were still pretty inseparable. That sometimes they still held hands and flirted just like when they had been dating. They remained each other’s cheerleader in life — the one that kept the other going. Even so, he yearned for the days when she was his, wholly. To hold, to cuddle with, to kiss… to dream about a future with. Hell, AJ still did that, but he couldn’t say so out loud. Even if their future ‘pact’ had sort of encroached on that secret. “Eh. I blame it on the tight baseball pants. ‘Sides, we both know I only had eyes for you. I like your territorial side. Always have.” Stealing gazes at Kita from the practice fields and even games was something that always made AJ’s heart soar. Mentally, he tucked away that she still found his claim to her desirable. AJ smirked, but chewed the inside of his cheek to keep from saying what he wanted to. That since they technically were dates tonight, he’d happily do that again.
“This silver fox would be extremely devoted to his wifey. Meaning, this lap would be reserved solely for her.” At least in the case that Kita was her. AJ’s eyes followed Kita’s gaze, fire burning in his cheeks and his stomach at her words. She knew exactly how to stir things up inside of him. “Oh trust me, I haven’t forgotten either. Definitely more fun, and by difficult, I think you mean challenging.” AJ couldn’t resist a cheeky wink. It was probably a good thing she couldn’t read his mind at the moment. It was a tumultuous, confusing mix of lust and yearning. And just when AJ thought he’d collected himself and played it cool, his slip of words made those cogs turn once more. Apparently not only in his head, but Kita’s too. His throat ran dry at her confession, and AJ’s hand reflexively tightened around Kita’s. “Never did, but I didn’t realize that offer still stands.” He said it softly, though there was a playfulness in his tone and a sparkle in blue eyes. “If I remember correctly, you did quite enjoy it.” They both had.
For two kids in love, their trust and exploration with each other ran deep. Even if they weren’t currently an item, AJ’s heart fully belonged to Kita, and only her. “I thought you knew that by now, K. If not, I must be failing you. But, yes. Your confidence is one of the hottest things ever. No one does it like you.” AJ was not the insecure type, really, though he could fully admit that it was Kita who had stoked most of it. He must have been doing something right to land a girl like her. “I mean, it’s easy to be when I’m around you.” AJ grinned boyishly. “But I’m glad you feel the same. Always happy to remind how incredible you are.” Anyone in the world could call him detective and it wouldn’t provoke, but when Kita did so in that alluring voice of hers, he could barely keep himself together. “Of course. I mean, I am your date, right?” He should have told her if there were other prospects that piqued her interest, she didn’t have to stay with him… but selfishly, he didn’t want to put that out in the open. It would crush him. AJ’s heart jolted as Kita’s arms wound about his neck, bringing their bodies unbelievably flush together. She seemed to long for the same closeness he did.
AJ was sure she could feel the way his heart picked up pace at her touch; much like she couldn’t have missed the quiet, throaty growl of approval at the most tender brush of her lips against his skin. He couldn’t be sure it was intentional or not, but good God, he wanted to taste her. AJ’s fingers curled more tightly around Kita’s slim waist in reflex, and to ground himself. He was pretty certain the last time he’d danced with anyone was her, at their senior prom. And this definitely wasn’t the kind of music he had much experience with, but AJ was grateful, for he’d milk the excuse to stay close to her. “Mm, I definitely remember what yours can do too.” It came out huskier than he’d meant it to, blue eyes a shade darker as his palms slid just a tad lower to settle on her curvaceous hips. Feeling her movements — her rhythm with the music, and watching just as closely, AJ tried his best to loosen and keep up with her. He wasn’t sure he was doing a great job, but he’d yet to step on her feet.
“This is a little dangerous,” AJ flirted, his fingers cinching her closer, barely leaving room to breathe between them. Distracted by her beauty and grace, AJ’s hips rolled against Kita’s more provocatively than he’d meant to, and he attempted to stifle another groan. “It’s really damn hard to be a gentleman when you move like this, you know. Did your celebration ideas have anything to do with that? Because I think I’d be up for more than you expect.”
Tumblr media
It shouldn’t feel normal, right? When you break up with your ex, you’re not supposed to fall back into such a normal rhythm with them, right? But what happened when they were completely and utterly your person? What then...you couldn’t just cut them out of your life no matter how much it stung that they weren’t yours anymore. But in truth, Kita would suffer all of the pain in order to keep AJ in her life. He meant everything to her, had been her support system and rock through everything life had thrown at them (and she’d always be there for him too, of course). Any thoughts Kita had been running through quickly halted at the imagery AJ’s comment about his baseball pants put into her head, a smirk tugging on her lips. “I mean those pants were just one of the things the girls chased after...but it did make it even better to see how disappointed they were when they realized I was the one who got to see you in them whenever I wanted.” She winked playfully. His next comment made her chuckle, humming to herself a little. “Mm? Well I’m happy to hear it’s mutual, I only had eyes for you too.” Still do, actually.
“As would his wifey, since she’d probably have to smack away all the old women in the nursing home.” Kita was tempted to say she wanted that lap of his to be reserved for her far before they made it to the old folks home, but she held her tongue. Though it proved to be difficult when he played into her own comment, the wheels in her head turning rapidly at this point. “You’re right, challenging fits better...and extremely entertaining as well.” god did he know what all of this talk was doing to her? She was already struggling with her unresolved feelings for AJ, and yet here they were, stoking those feelings even more. She almost choked when she realized he had caught what she’d said, but apparently she wasn’t the only one affected if his tightened grip was any indication. Kita let her voice drop to that soft husky tone, leaning a little closer with a breathy “Who said that offer ever went away?”
There was something special about their past, which Kita adored dearly, how they’d been each other’s firsts back in high school. He’d been her first for many things, and he’d always be the first and the only one who held her heart no matter who came into her life. All the more reason as to why his compliments meant so much to her, she knew they were all genuine. “You could never fail me, A. You know well enough that isn’t at all possible.” His grin made her laugh, the woman always melting whenever he flashed that smile in her direction. And even if he chalked up the fact that he was ‘all hers’ to that he was her date didn’t damper the feelings it gave her, it was enough for Kita to hear it from him.
With their bodies so close, and that near animalistic growl that escaped AJ at her lips on his skin, Kita was thankful she was sober otherwise she’d be sure this was all a hallucination. She wanted to kiss him, dance with him, do a million things with him that crossed the platonic line they’d seemingly drawn in the sand. But with him as her willing dance partner, Kita would take advantage of every second she could spend so close to him. And the way he responded to her? That husky tone that made her weak in the knees and completely high? Her grip on her own wrist at the back of his neck tightened to try and bring herself back to reality. “Oh yea? Good to know I was good enough for you to still remember after all these years.” She teased near hoarsely, though a soft gasp passed her lips as his hands settled lower, only fueling the heat in her cheeks. It’d been way too long since they’d been this close to each other.
A sultry smirk tugged at her lips at AJ’s flirting, head tilting a little. “I’m surprised by you, detective, that with your line of work this is dangerous.” Kita replied, pressing up against him when he pulled her closer, attempting to stifle a moan at his hip movements...though she was all too happy to return the favor. “This is one of those times where you don’t have to be a gentleman, AJ, in fact I think the situation encourages you to not be one.” One hand moved up into the hair at the back of his head, fingers threading in the blonde strands. “They actually did...though I think you’ll have to tell me exactly what you’re up for, handsome.”

Court had been brutal to say the least. Her last case had been a slam dunk, one that had felt like practically a walk in the park during the entire proceedings. But this one she’d just been assigned to? It felt like a painfully slow walk through drying cement, not to mention the lawyer she was up against was as slimy as they came. All he needed was a pastel suit, greasy hair and an office on the Las Vegas strip, and he’d tick off all the slime-ball-lawyer stereotypes. Which had admittedly made Kita suspicious of him, but her suspicions were only confirmed once they finally went toe to toe in court for the first time today. Annoying was the best way to describe him.
Which was why Kita was heading to AJ’s precinct, a to go lunch sitting in the passenger seat of her car as she sped away from the court house. Her white blouse unbuttoned a few more buttons than she’d undo in court, she let herself relax a bit as she finally parked. Anytime she saw AJ it was the highlight of her day, but on days like today that rang true even more so for her.
Getting out and walking into the precinct, Kita offered a smile to everyone she passed by, half of the people he worked with knowing her at this point. Visiting AJ, on top of them working in the same circles guaranteed that she knew a good portion of his fellow brothers and sisters in blue. And as soon as her dark gaze landed on his handsome face, her smile visibly brightened. god could he make everything better for her, even just seeing his face. “Hey detective, hope you’re hungry cause I brought food.” She grinned, holding up the take out bag for him to see.
