A really interesting page. Of course it's played off with some comedy because I guess RT didn't want to get overly heavy when we've already had several heavy chapters and literally just got done discussing Inuyasha's potential suicidal ideation and how it's affecting those around him, but... Kagome's expression and outburst read to me like his compliment, as genuine as it was, really struck a nerve on her current insecurities. She's been saying "I'm not/I wasn't strong enough" a lot lately, and I think he legitimately took her off-guard in a way that made those feelings kind of explode. Like "why do you think that about me, when I can't think it about myself?" But stress turned it into an outburst instead of a genuine discussion because she wasn't ready to hear Inuyasha thinks the world of her right now. It's really sad, honestly...

I'm on this arc so here's a reblog of my analysis of it.
Nobody talks about how the Kaou and tears of blood arc is a direct parallel to Inuyasha's time spent frozen on the tree, so I'm going to talk about it. It's not new that Kikyou has been used as a metaphor for Inuyasha being stagnant in his grief. Passive in his will to live, if you will. She is a direct cause for his willingness to give up living (out of Survivor's Guilt). So it's very fitting that she's used as the catalyst to both of these chapters where Inuyasha is trapped in time and giving into his grief.

Even the poses are similar. On the contrary, Kagome has always been seen as a metaphor for active movement, growth, and LIFE for Inuyasha. It's always her voice that brings him back from the brink. She pulls out Kikyou's arrow keeping him still, and in the Kaou arc it's her own arrow that saves him - a direct contrast to Kikyou's use of the weapon.

Both of these arc begin with grief and Kikyou and end with Inuyasha choosing life because of Kagome. It's fitting that the unsealing ends with Inuyasha having a new chance at life (and love) and it's fitting that the Kaou arc ends with Inuyasha choosing to overcome his grief and attachment to Kikyou's death once and for all, and choose to move on and "be okay". With Kagome.

Sango, what the absolute fuck?? T.T Man literally opens up that he's hurting so bad he can't sit with his thoughts, and you want to punish him??? Sometimes I swear she's a sadist.

I can't believe I'm saying this (I kinda can), but Kouga turning around after Kikyou dies to try and get Inuyasha to snap out of his depression and saying it's up to Kagome to watch out for him is more actual empathy than Kikyou ever showed in her entire time besides when it would try to pretend she cared about innocent children and people (y'know, the same people she doesn't mind eating their souls so that she can remain a zombie)

I'm sorry I'm such a hater to all my non-hater followers but like can I gloat one more time about how absolutely NONE of Kikyou's plans worked at all? >"Naraku cannot be defeated with a blade." Inuyasha defeats him with a blade. >"I'll exorcise him through letting him absorb the Jewel." He gets Kouga's shards and still beats out her light. >"Only I can do it." Kagome does all the work. Gurl sometimes you really need to shut up, LOL. The group have been ahead of her from the beginning and of course she has no idea cuz she's never around them but like stop pretending you're better than them. Even fucking Kouga's contributed more to the fight than her by now.

My favorite absolutely canon dog quirk of Inuyasha's is that he pants like a bitch in heat for Kagome when they're having their "couple time".

Moroha: Mommy! Daddy! Until I get back, work on making me a little brother or sister!
Kagome: ... You heard her, Inuyasha.
Inuyasha: Y-... Yeah.

This scene is kind of interesting to me, because it really highlights what good care Inuyasha takes of his human companions, letting them rest so much, when from a demon standpoint he could probably cover ground for days too if he was alone. Of course I'm very sure he appreciates the R&R too now that he's used to it. But he really could just nonstop track Naraku if he wanted, but he'd rather take care of his little group of humans and keep them all with him.

"Oh, well" he says, developing a suicidal ideation complex that lasts the rest of the series.

I HC that Inuyasha has fertility issues just so I can also HC that they go to Kaede about it, she looks him dead in the eye, and says "I'm sorry, Inuyasha. It seems your sperm are... chasing their own tails."
Just imagine his glorious rage.

Inuyasha is my favorite MirSan anti like he genuinely couldn't comprehend the mere idea of Sango liking Miroku.
