Ghost in the Alley part 1

Crime Alley had its fair share of weirdos, but none quite like Danny.

He didn’t sell drugs, didn’t do deals, didn’t run with any gang. He didn’t drink, didn’t fight unless he had to, and wasn’t some creep lurking in the shadows. He was clean. Suspiciously clean.

Jason had seen this before—people who looked too good to be true. Maybe an undercover cop, or maybe someone running from something. The latter made more sense. The kid had this ingrained paranoia, like he was always waiting for someone to come looking for him. So Jason did what Jason did best: he dug.

What he found made Crime Alley’s collective stomach turn.

Danny Nightingale, formerly Daniel James Fenton. Trans kid, ran from home at seventeen and never looked back. Changed his name legally, got himself into Gotham University on a scholarship, and—this was the part that really got Jason’s hackles up—kept tabs on one Vlad Masters. Billionaire, shady as hell, and, if Jason’s gut was right, an abuser.

Danny’s parents had covered it up; that much was obvious. There was no paper trail, no charges. Just a kid who had run like hell and never looked back. And he had a kid. biologically. Ellie Nightingale. who was living with Danny's older sister.

Jason wasn’t the only one who found out. Crime Alley took care of its own, and the second they realized Danny was running from a monster, they all decided he was theirs.

Danny, of course, didn’t notice at first. He was too busy being Danny—walking grandmas across the street, scaring off creeps from corner stores, making sure kids had places to go when the weather turned to Gotham’s brand of awful. During winter, he made sure everyone had somewhere warm to stay. When Mr. Freeze hit, Danny somehow kept an old Planet Fitness heated, sneaking people inside like some kind of ghostly Robin Hood.

Then Vlad came to Gotham.

And Crime Alley wasn’t having any of it.

The first mugging was sloppy—Vlad got his wallet lifted on the first night. The second was less so—he took a few bruises and a busted lip. By the third, someone had beaten him within an inch of his life. Jason wasn’t sure who did it first, but he knew for damn sure no one was sorry.

Then the GIW showed up. And that was a mistake.

Jason had never seen Crime Alley move so fast. The moment those men in white suits rolled in, looking for some excuse to grab Danny, the whole damn Alley turned into a war zone. People who normally hated each other were suddenly working together to make sure those guys never found so much as a whisper of the kid.

Danny fought too.

Because of course he did.

And if Jason caught a glimpse of something glowing and green, saw bodies go flying with nothing touching them, well...he wasn’t gonna say a damn thing.

The Bats didn’t get it. Batman was too busy looking at the big picture, at the people Danny helped and thinking criminals don’t deserve kindness.

Danny disagreed.

Nightwing was too chipper. Robin was a menace. Batman was a jackass. Crime Alley was home.

And if Danny was their ghost, then Gotham’s most dangerous neighborhood was more than happy to be haunted.
