WOMEN HAVE ALWAYS BEEN MEMBERS OF THE WORKFORCE.

The "raise children and bake bread" ideal of women's roles is somewhat pastoral, tbh. The same way working city folk looked to the country and saw an idealized version of pastoral life where shepherds lazed in fields writing poetry rather than doing hard labour, the modern people might look back on the Angel of the House and think that idealized version of a woman in the home is what being a woman looked like before feminism.

It didn't.

Look at the Victorians, when the Angel of the House was written. Country women worked the fields, just like their farmer husbands did. Women worked skilled trades, when taught to do so by their skilled tradesperson husband, to help him with it. City women worked in deadly factories while their children swept chimneys. Women of all sorts did bookkeeping for their husband's business, whatever that may be. Upper class women participated in society to push along their husband's social climbing.

Women have always been in the workforce. The difference we fought for was to be able to chose our careers, and be compensated fairly for our work, rather than having to work whatever job is most convenient to our husband, or work a job receiving less compensation than a man doing the exact same work.

Excluding the crucial fact that office jobs pay you an income….if staying home to raise children and do chores and bake bread was really so much easier and more joyful than working in an office on some objective level, why aren’t men doing it? Why aren’t they chomping at the bit to be ~leisurely house husbands~ to a working wife? Why aren’t they stepping up to depend solely on someone else’s income in exchange for round-the-clock domestic labor, if it’s really as blissful and their propaganda suggests? Curious.

sorry to be a hater but every time I see someone describe buck and eddie's friendship as codependent -- even ppl who don't ship them but are just justifying them being 'so close' -- I'm like where. we have seen them hang out, like friends do. we have seen buck babysit eddies kid, like friends do. we have seen them help each other when theyre struggling, like friends do. but i cannot think of a single time they have like, refused to do something without each other. experienced a big life moment and immediately run to tell the other one. spent an obsessive amount of time together in a row. yall i think they might just be normal friends

My DCMK fanfic rec list (mostly detective Conan stuff)

I’ve got a weird love/hate relationship with detective Conan/magic Kaito . But here are my fic recommendations. I wrote none of these!

The Case of the Hidden Epidemic - a strange outbreak has been effecting the youths in Tokyo, it’s soon found out that this disease was manufactured! Love how Conan is pushed to his absolute limit. Thankfully he’s got quite a support group. Secrets will be revealed.

The Magic Bullet Murder Case - sequel to the fic above, a murder has occurred at a tournament Ran participated in. The main suspect? A high school student by the name Kuroba Kaito, who has a knack for magic tricks.

The Case of the Haywire Heist - final part of the hidden epidemic trilogy, kaito kid is doing heist in Hattori’s territory, Conan’s there too, but not to solve or chase down the thief…. But to confront him. But things go awry, and blood gets stained on Kaito Kid’s suit.

About Edogawa - the new guy of the police force learn about this strange kid from his coworkers.

The Mystery of Conan Edogawa - Ran is at her limit, all these suppressions about the little kid living with her actually being her childhood friend is eating her up. So…. She does what Shinichi always encourages her to do and investigate. I love all the ways ran tries to solve the case.

New Suspicion - a short sweet fic about Ran getting suspicious again

Deduction by Fusae - Sonoko tries to figure out Ai-Chan

Code Red - Mori discovers a bunch of red dots on his neck and tries to figure out their origin

Shift from the norm - Conan is trying to figure out his new dynamic with Ran after she finds out

Where He Was - ran learns where shicichi is after being poisoned

All Night Gang - Ran and Kazuha find out Conan’s secret after he left his phone unattended, they use the opportunity to gossip, this series takes a break from all the crime and mystery and just talk about stuff. A lot of good character development and comics in this series.

Curiosity Made the Cat - instead of being turned into a kid, Shinchi turns into a cat and begins his vigilante arc! It’s more humorous than serious. But does have a few dark moments.

Written in blood - incomplete rn, but this takes a more logical look at how stuff works…… “The apotoxin didn't work cleanly. That night the police found enough pieces of Kudo Shinichi to declare him dead.” We see how everyone deals with the tragedy and Shinichi being more traumatized by the event.

Magic In Spades - Kaito meets the detective boys.

Necromancy for Beginners - part of the Halloweenverse AU, part of a series. Kazuha couldn’t accept Heiji’s death so she tries to bring him back.

Scientific Enthusiasm - the detective boys ask some…. Concerning things in class.

Playing the Fool - Mori is sharper then he seems

Going Down - a new mystery has arrived, unfortunately Conan cannot solve it, because he is one of the victims in this case.

Just saying, every single time a stupid problem of the week show decides to feature a tradwife influencer plotline (which I've seen a couple times on a couple different shows I guess?), I'm always disappointed that none of the Natural Enemies of Tradwives characters that inevitably show up point out that the tradwife influencer isn't actually choosing between being a homemaker and having a career, that writing books and teaching seminars and keeping on top of a social media following, while being paid for all that, is all a career. Like can someone please point out that tradwife influencers are also career-women, in a show aimed at the mass-market. PLEASE I AM BEGGING.

One of my fav authors just said in their authors note that Sam and Dean retire from hunting like Hayao Miyazaki retires from film making. Which is literally soooo perfect…

Like they are DONE. They are OVER IT. Dean gets a job at a garage and watches too much Food Network. Sam’s working on a dissertation on American folklore. And then he’s conducting an oral history section of his thesis and the “Sasquatch” sighting his subject is describing is REALLY starting to sound like a wendigo….

And of course there are other hunters and they could pass it off. But they’re so close and they basically did all the research already and the undergrad Sam hired for help w interview transcription is just gonna keep poking her nose in it if it doesn’t get taken care of soon.

Anyways, this is the last one. After this, they’re DONE. For real this time.
